Halo: Spartan Assault Headed To Xbox One, Xbox 360 This December

Halo: Spartan Assault launched across all Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 devices earlier this year, leaving many fans of the series feeling rightfully left out if they didn’t own either. If there’s one thing we’re sure of, it’s that fans of the Halo series probably own an Xbox 360 and will most likely purchase an Xbox One. We have good news for you then as Halo: Spartan Assault is headed to the Xbox 360 and Xbox One this holiday season. (more…)

Halo Xbox One Story Details Leaked On Microsoft Store

Prior to the announcement of the Xbox One, gamers knew a new title was already in the works for the next-generation console which would allow us to play as Master Chief as he battles whoever is the current risk to the galaxy. We knew there’d be a new Halo, but for those of us who actually care more about its story over its multiplayer, we didn’t exactly know what the game would be about. Thankfully, Microsoft has finally accidentally shed a little bit of light on where the next Halo will take us. (more…)

Halo 4 Spartan Ops Season One Returns With Weekly Updates Starting January 21

Halo 4 had a great 2012 as it broke its own franchise’s opening day sales record and released its first map pack in time for the holiday noob hunt, and today, Microsoft is announcing the first season of Halo 4′s Spartan Ops mode will be returning on January 21.

Episodes 6-10 in Spartan Ops are scheduled to release weekly starting on January 21 as the story featuring the Majestic Squad of the UNSC Infinity continues to play out. If you haven’t played episodes 1-5, they’re currently available to you to play through within Halo 4, but if you did play the episodes and need a refresher on what exactly transpired, Microsoft has released a trailer to offer that refresher to Halo 4 players.

In addition to today’s news of Spartan Ops Season One returning, Halo 4 developer 343 Industries also shared some stats summarizing how Halo 4 players did in the first half of Sparton Ops Season One.

Stats summary of the first half of Spartan Ops Season 1

8,125,908 games were played in Spartan Ops Matchmaking in the first two months.

4,696,752 hours were spent playing Spartan Ops Matchmaking in the first two months.

901,258,308 kills were earned in Spartan Ops Matchmaking in the first two months.

262,150,257 assists were earned in Spartan Ops Matchmaking in the first two months.

167,101,619 deaths were recorded in Spartan Ops Matchmaking in the first two months.

“Shootout In Valhalla” was the most played Mission in the first half of Spartan Ops Season 1.

How do you stack up against the following averages?

49.77 was the average number of kills earned per game in Spartan Ops Matchmaking in the first two months.

6.77 was the average number of assists earned per game in Spartan Ops Matchmaking in the first two months.

7.15 was the average number of deaths recorded per game in Spartan Ops Matchmaking in the first two months.

I’m proud to say that I added at least five hours of Spartan Ops time and maybe 700 kills to those stats. So, you’re welcome Halo 4 community.

Microsoft working on a fix for Halo 4 SmartGlass issues, arriving in ‘the coming weeks’

Microsoft working on a fix for Halo 4 SmartGlass issues, set to arrive in 'the coming weeks'

Microsoft’s SmartGlass and Microsoft’s Halo 4 apparently aren’t quite getting along on Windows Phone 8 devices. Using SmartGlass, Halo 4 players can normally access their stats and other info about their android supersoldier using the long-established Waypoint service — except for Windows Phone 8 users, apparently. A forum thread dating back to Halo 4‘s November launch highlights the issue — as Xbox.com forum user “Scion Eon” puts it: “Whenever I try to log into SmartGlass on my phone while playing Halo 4, I am immediately greeted with a message that says ‘Your device is missing certain required features.'” As it turns out, Mr. Eon isn’t the only one experiencing said connectivity issues — specific to Windows Phone 8 devices — and Microsoft’s aware of the situation.

“We are aware that there is an issue with the Xbox SmartGlass experience for ‘Halo Waypoint’ on Windows Phone 8 devices, which may prevent users from accessing Halo 4 player stats,” a Microsoft rep told us this afternoon. Thankfully, Redmond’s also taking care of a solution. “We are actively working on a fix and expect to have a solution within the coming weeks. We appreciate your patience as this gets resolved and apologize for any inconvenience this causes,” the statement reads. Of course, should you want to access Halo 4‘s Waypoint functionality on SmartGlass before that fix, you can always use Microsoft’s competitor’s devices. But then who’d do that?

    [Thanks Colin!]

Halo 4 Racks up $220 Million in Global Sales in 24 Hours

I don’t think it will come as a surprise to anyone out there that Halo 4 is already a major success. Microsoft has announced that the launch of the game is the biggest and most successful launch in the franchise’s history. In fact, the game brought in a whopping $220 million globally in the first 24 hours of availability.

Microsoft believes that the game is on track to gross more than $300 million in global sales the first week it’s available. The game earned more money on its opening day than the biggest opening day sales in U.S. box office history for a Hollywood blockbuster. That happened to be the movie Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. Halo 4 also earned more money on its opening day than The Avengers to put things in perspective.

Microsoft also offered a bit of insight into how much time players are spending with Halo 4. During the first five days it was available, over 4 million players played online. Those players spent a total of 31.4 million hours playing the game. Even more impressive is that Microsoft says the entire Halo franchise has racked up over 5 billion hours played since the series first debuted.

Xbox 360 Halo 4 bundle fights new enemies, packs familiar hardware on November 6th

Xbox 360 Halo 4 bundle fights new enemies, packs familiar hardware on November 6th

It’s widely considered a tradition: Microsoft readies a new Halo game, and a new Xbox 360 bundle swings by stores to mark the occasion. The Limited Edition Halo 4 Xbox 360 follows that pattern, with a special (if minor) twist. No one will be shocked by the new Halo-themed artwork or the inclusion of a Halo 4 copy in the 320GB system’s box, but the ring of light on both the console and its two matching gamepads will drop the Xbox 360’s green glow in favor of a distinctive bright blue. At $400, the console arriving November 6th will aim chiefly at the hardest of hardcore sci-fi shooter fans — although murmurs of an upcoming successor console could make the Halo 4 pack an unofficial swan song for Microsoft’s market dominator. Consider the stand-alone $60 special edition wireless controller for a less expensive way to say goodbye.

Halo 2 HD remake not in the works

Halo fans have had tons of exciting news lately. First, they heard this morning that Halo 4 would be making it to the Microsoft Surface tablet. Then there were rumors yesterday that after the success of the Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary edition, 343 Industries was working on a Halo 2 HD remake. Unfortunately these rumors have been put to rest by 343 Industries.

Halo Council has posted the results of a Q&A with 343 Industries from Microsoft’s Expertzone, in which 343 Industries stated that they are too busy and are not working on a Halo 2 HD remake. They are currently nearing completion on Halo 4, which will release on November 6th. This isn’t too bad of news as they haven’t completely ruled out the project, they just stated they were busy with other projects and I’m sure fans would rather have them focus all of their resources on Halo 4 than a remake. Were you excited for a Halo 2 HD remake? Let us know in the comment section below.
