Sony has just released the pricing for its 55-inch and 65-inch 4K Ultra HD LED TVs. The XBR-55X900A (55-inch version) will be available for $4,999 and the XBR-65X900A (65-inch version) will be available for $6,999. They’re much cheaper than the $25,000 84-inch 4K TV Sony was selling last year, but still certainly not affordable for the average consumer. The TVs are expected to be available online and in retail stores on April 21st.

These TVs have a display resolution that’s 4 times that of a FULL HD TV (3840 x 2160) thanks to Sony’s proprietary two-chip 4K X-reailty PRO picture engine. Also thanks to the TVs’ TRILUMINOS Display, color quality is spectacular. All colors, even difficult-to-reproduce hues, will be delivered naturally and accurately. Your TV will display amazing contrast thanks to the TVs’ dynamic edge-lit LED backlighting.

The TVs will have audio that “makes every moment real” thanks to Sony’s Signal-to-Sound architecture. They will also have a S-Force front-facing, magnetic fluid speaker system to provide you with the highest-quality sound possible. The TV is FULL HD 3D capable, and will have WiFi connectivity built right in so that you can download video content from the Sony Entertainment Network.

To compliment the X900A’s beautiful display, Sony will bringing remastered Blu-Ray discs that support the 4K resolution of these TVs. When you purchase your TV, you will also be able to pick up a remastered copy of Spider-Man (the one featuring Tobey Maguire), Ghostbusters, and Angels & Demons for free. Sony will also be launching its FMP-X1 4K Media Player over the summer for $699, bundled with 10 films and video shorts viewable in 4k resolution. Later in the Fall, it will launch a video-distribution service that lets consumers buy various 4K titles for their TVs. These services will allow consumers to fully utilize their TVs’ capabilities.

The 56-inch OLED TV Sony trotted out at CES may not be headed to the consumer market, but it is becoming a reality, at least in the professional sector. The company showcased a pair of 4K OLED prototypes at NAB 2013, outing a 4,096 x 2,160 30-inch model as well as a 3,840 x 2160 56-inch display. Both panels boast of wide viewing angles and low color shift, promising accurate signal reproduction for industry professionals working with 4K content. No word yet on pricing, but professionals can look forward to upgrading sometime in next year. Sony also announced a refresh for its existing line of professional OLED displays. The A series will replace seven older skus, again promising better viewing angles and color shift than the previous generation. Update: The 30-inch 4K OLED prototype is looking at a 2014 release date, while the A series monitors will be available in May.

Think $25,000 for an 84-inch 4K TV is a bit tough to swallow? You’re certainly not alone, but if you’re willing to compromise on a few viewable inches, you could very well save yourself quite a bit of cash. At Sony’s NAB press conference today here in Las Vegas, the company finally shared pricing for its smaller 4K models, the Bravia XBR-55X900A and the XBR-65X900A, which ring in at 55 and 65 inches, respectively. That first flavor will retail for a mere $5,000, with its larger sibling due in stores for just two grand more. As we learned at CES, both models offer Triluminous displays with X-Reality PRO and Motionflow XR960 technology, WiFi and NFC one-touch screen mirroring, not to mention native support for displaying 3,840 x 2,160 pixels images. The more budget-friendly duo will hit stores on April 21st — they’ll also be available to order online in just two weeks’ time.

We’ve all heard the rumors that Apple could be looking to build a television set of their own, with some predicting that it could even be launched later this year. While the jury is still out on that one, a new rumor has emerged, suggesting that Apple’s alleged television set could be a 4k device, meaning that it will put it in competition with UHD television sets by companies like Samsung, LG and Sony. According to the folks at Digitimes, the alleged “iTV” will sport a display resolution of 3840×2160, putting it up to the 4k UHD standard of 2160p, and will come with internet connectivity, voice and motion controls.

So where is this alleged TV? Well apparently Apple and Foxconn have been in discussion for quite a while over the mass production of the device, but Apple has been putting it off because they are still looking for a reliable panel supplier. It is speculated that LG Display could be the one to take the lead on the panel display, and the rumors are saying it might mean a late 2013 or early 2014 release. We’ll take this with a grain of salt for now, but a 4k UHD Apple TV? Apple’s products are already pretty expensive to start with, and we’d hate to think how much this would cost.
