Best Buy’s product page for Verizon’s HTC 8X Windows Phone goes live

Not too long ago, Nokia and HTC unveiled their new Windows Phone 8 devices, and if you were particularly taken by HTC’s offering, you might be interested to learn that Best Buy has put up the product page for Verizon’s HTC 8X. Unsurprisingly the phone is priced at $199.99, but you will need to get the phone on a new two-year contract with the carrier. The specs of the 8X include a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of storage and will come with wireless charging capabilities, much like Nokia’s Windows Phone offering. Given that Nokia’s specs and HTC’s specs are almost identical, we guess it boils down to a matter of preference in the design, and which camera you think holds up better. Of course this is assuming you get it unlocked as the Nokia Lumia 920 appears to be an AT&T exclusive, at least for the time being. So, who’s getting the HTC 8X?

Verizon document leak confirms HTC 8X wireless charging

Will Windows Phone 8 from Microsoft be able to make the splash in the mobile operating system scene that the software giant intended to? Perhaps, or perhaps not – only time will tell, but we do know that the few handsets which carry this operating system are definitely worth checking out based on their system specifications alone. In what appears to be a more recent training document leak from Verizon, it does seem as though the HTC 8X is confirmed to boast wireless charging capability, something that was previously touted to be made available on the Nokia Lumia 920. Clearly, this will help HTC move more handsets in the market when folks who use this as a make-or-break point in their purchase decision where smartphones are concerned.

The wireless charging pad will be be sold separately though, and so far, it does seem as though the HTC 8X will retail for $199 with a two-year contract, although we have yet to be able to place a firm date on its release. Some cite November 8th, while others think that it will be sometime in the week of November 18th to the 24th. Are you going to pick up the HTC 8X when it arrives?

Bell gearing up for November 15th HTC 8X release

Bell gearing up for November 15th HTC 8X release

Windows Phone fans in the Great White North shouldn’t have to wait long to get their hands on HTC’s latest piece of kit — a internal Bell document obtained by MobileSyrup pegs the 8X for a November 15th launch. The reported Canadian launch date trails T-Mobile’s availability by a mere day, noting that pre-ordered devices could ship out as early as November 9th. Not too surprising, considering the phone just skipped through the FCC with support for the entire north American continent. No word on pricing, but the page’s listed specs nicely match the brightly colored 4.3-inch, 1.5GHz dual-core slab we reviewed. Not a Bell customer? Don’t worry — MobileSyrup is hearing murmurs that the same date applies to Rogers, as well.

HTC 8X review: Windows Phone 8’s compact flagship

HTC 8X Review Windows Phone 8's compact flagship

It feels like forever since Microsoft announced Windows Phone 8 back in June, but the mobile OS is finally here and with it comes the inaugural volley of compatible handsets. The first one to cross our desks is the global, unlocked version of HTC’s Windows Phone 8X, a device we first saw in September. Unlike other current flagships, this phone breaks the bigger-is-better trend by providing a full set of high-end specs in a relatively compact package — combining a 4.3-inch 720p Super LCD 2 display, Qualcomm dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor and NFC in a sleek and colorful package. Does the 8X have what it takes to carry the Windows Phone 8 torch? Is this a bona fide flagship despite its reduced footprint? Has HTC designed a better handset than its existing Android superphone, the One X? Find out in our review after the break.

Windows Phone 8 Device Availability: Phones Hit Europe This Weekend, U.S. In November

joe3

Windows Phone 8 is coming to European carriers this weekend, coming to the rest of the world in November, with devices from Lumia, HTC and Samsung including the 920, 8X and Ativ S hitting online stores and retail shelves. The mobile OS has been anticipated for a while now, but this is the first we’ve heard of a specific street date, so now you know when you can actually get your hands on Microsoft’s latest hotness.

Verizon will be getting the 8X and 822 by Thanksgiving. AT&T will get the Lumia 820, 920 and HTC 8X by November, and T-Mobile is getting the Lumia 810 and 8X by November 14. Sprint appears not to have gotten on the Windows Phone 8 launch train. The Lumia 920 goes on sale at Rogers in Canada, tomorrow

Europe gets the big advance, however, as Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said on stage at the event that all the phones he showed off today (the HTC 8X, Ativ S, Lumia 920) would be available to purchase in European countries beginning well ahead of U.S. launches this weekend. And the Lumia 920 goes on sale at Rogers in Canada, starting tomorrow. That means U.S. users will have at least a couple weeks to read over first impressions and reviews before decided to “go all in” on Windows Phone 8, as Ballmer is fond of saying.

Best Buy offering preorders for Nokia Lumia 920 and HTC 8X for $14999 and $9999 under contract

Nokia and HTC’s upcoming Windows Phone 8 flagships are still on the standard release path: announcement, federal approval and now, pre-order. Keeping device availability tucked firmly under its hat, Best Buy is now offering Nokia’s Lumia 920 and the HTC 8X for pre-sale, priced at $149.99 and $99.99, respectively. Early buyers have options, too: the Lumia 920 is kitted out in red, blue, yellow, black and white shells. Fashionistas with a flair for purple, however, will need to stick to HTC’s hardware. Unfortunately, you don’t get that much choice — Best Buy’s pre-orders don’t balk at the devices’ AT&T exclusivity. The retailer doesn’t say when devices are going to ship, but we imagine early adopters won’t have to wait too long.

Update: The Lumia 920 has disappeared from Best Buy’s listings, while the 8X remains. This seems to suggest that pre-order stock for Nokia’s new flagship has sold out, but given the short time it was available, let’s hope that other issues are to blame and the absence is only temporary.

Pre-Orders For AT&T Windows Phone 8 HTC And Nokia Handsets Begin At Best Buy

Screen Shot 2012-10-21 at 10.43.06 AM

Best Buy started accepting pre-orders today for the AT&T Nokia Lumia 920 and HTC 8X Windows Phone devices. Pricing details are also now available, with the Lunia 920 available for $149.99 on a new 2-year contract, and $599.99 without commitment. The 8X is $99.99 on contract, and $599.99 without, meaning those interested can get on board with Windows Phone 8 for $50 less with HTC, albeit with some trade-offs.

Those looking for color choice will want to opt for Nokia, however, as the HTC 8X is only available in purple through the current pre-order process, while the Nokia Lumia 920 (an AT&T exclusive for 6 months, according to reports) comes in your choice of cyan, yellow, red, white and black. Also, the 8X has only 16GB of internal storage, while the Lumia 920 offers 32GB built-in. Both devices offer an 8 MP rear camera, but the HTC’s front facing one is 2.1 MP while the Nokia’s is 1.2.  The 8X has a 4.3-inch, 1280 x 720 display with pixel density of 342ppi, vs the Lumia 920′s 1280 x 768, 332ppi screen. Both use the same 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor with 1GB of internal RAM. In terms of physical dimensions, the HTC smartphone is smaller and lighter.

Ship date is still unknown, since all of the devices still say “Reserve today. Will ship when available” on Best Buy’s website.

Verizon Windows Phone 8X may have passed through the FCC

Verizon Windows Phone 8X may have passed through the FCC

Now, we don’t know for sure what the PM23100 that just made its way through the FCC is, but we’d put pretty good odds on it being Verizon’s Windows Phone 8X. Only a couple of hours after what appears to be the AT&T-bound 8X was given the thumbs up by regulators, yet another HTC Windows Phone appeared, with an incredibly similar model number, CDMA radios and compatibility with Big Red’s 700MHz LTE. Knowing that it’s an HTC Windows Phone and that it packs NFC really doesn’t leave too many possibilities. The one pleasant surprise, it’s also compatible with GSM frequencies 850 and 1900,, so you’ll be able to roam the globe with just the swap of a SIM. Hit up the source to see the filling for yourself.

Likely HTC Windows Phone 8X with AT&T-friendly LTE surfaces at the FCC, just in time

HTC Windows Phone 8X with AT&Tfriendly LTE surfaces at the FCC just in time

Isn’t that convenient. With only weeks left to go before the official Windows Phone 8 launch event, what’s likely a version of the HTC Windows Phone 8X with North American LTE support has stopped by the FCC for approval. The PM23300 variant we see here (the international 8X is the PM23200) supports both the needed 700MHz LTE band for its eventual appearance at AT&T as well as AWS for wider AT&T coverage and the big three Canadian carriers. All are good signs that HTC is just about ready, although T-Mobile and Verizon subscribers might not want to get overly excited just yet — there’s no AWS 3G, CDMA or Verizon-ready 700MHz LTE to be found on this 8X, which shows that any US launch will still demand multiple editions. The others won’t be far behind in the FCC race with that November release window already locked in.

HTC 8X announced

HTC continues to support the Windows Phone platform today with the announcement of two devices, and we will take a gander at the HTC 8X here. The HTC 8X does seem to be quite the powerhouse (Nokia should be looking over their shoulders in a nervous manner even with their flagship Lumia 920 announced), where this Windows Phone 8-powered smartphone will come with 16GB of internal memory and a beautiful, 4.3-inch 720p resolution super LCD screen that gets additional protection from normal knocks and scrapes thanks to lightweight Gorilla Glass 2, in addition to optical lamination that further reduces reflections and glare so that your eyes will be able to make out every single detail under bright sunlight.

In terms of its camera, HTC embarks on new territory this time around with their 2.1-megapixel shooter f/2.0 aperture, 88° ultra-wide angle front-facing camera that enables you to capture up to four people in a single shot, in addition to handling 1080p video capture without missing a beat. At the back, there is a 8-megapixel CMOS sensor with backside-illumination (BSI) for improved low-light performance, along with an f/2.0 aperture, 28mm lens and a dedicated imaging chip. HTC threw in a physical shutter button so that you can capture moments in a quick and easy manner.

You can choose from California Blue, Graphite Black, Flame Red and Limelight Yellow colors for the HTC 8X if you are interested.
