Archos 97 Carbon tablet detailed further, looks good to go

Every day, there is bound to be news of a new tablet in the pipeline, and most of the time, these would be of the Android operating system variety. After all, the iPad from Apple gets a refresh once a year or so, and Windows 8 has yet to make a splash despite the Microsoft Surface tablet looking good when it was previewed earlier this year. Having said that, the latest tablet from the Android camp would be the Archos 97 Carbon, where it will certainly turn heads thanks to the brushed aluminum casing, not to mention having it come in a relatively svelte form factor that measures just 11.5mm thin and weighing all of 620 grams.

In addition, the Archos 97 Carbon will also come with a 9.7″ IPS display at 1024 x 768 pixel resolution, letting your eyeballs enjoy a decent viewing experience along with others thanks to the amazing viewing angles that accompany the display. Not only that, there are front facing as well as back cameras thrown into the mix, allowing you to perform video calls on it while capturing precious moments that should not be forgotten on your tablet wherever you are. It will not replace a dedicated digital camera, but is ideal for moments when you want to capture something impromptu.

In terms of storage, you get 16GB of internal memory, and if that is not enough for you, you can always expand it thanks to the microSD memory card slot, although there is also the option of plugging in a USB flash drive thanks to the full-sized USB host port. I know that Android 4.1 Jelly Bean was just released recently with the Google Nexus 7 tablet, but the Archos 97 Carbon is not too far behind with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, although it would be nice to hear from Archos that a Jelly Bean update is on the way. Perhaps another time, no?

Since the Archos 97 Carbon is a Google certified device, it will allow you to access the entire gamut of Google designed Android apps, regardless of whether it is to keep in contact over Gmail, Google Talk and Google+ (with multi-user video calling), planning your next trip with Google Maps, or simply to access your content on the 5GB of free cloud storage thanks to Google Drive. With an asking price of $249.99, the Archos 97 Carbon does seem to be a decent purchase.

Archos’ ICS-loaded 97 Carbon tablet now up for sale, priced at $230 for a limited time

Archos' ICS-loaded 97 Carbon tablet now up for sale, priced at $230 for a limited time

Its brief, mandatory appearance at the FCC a couple of weeks ago certainly let us know it’d be ready to take anyone’s cash sooner rather than later, and surely enough, the 97 Carbon’s now making itself available to all. Just as we’d heard, Archos is pricing the Ice Cream Sandwich slate at $250, though the company’s currently running a deal where it’s parting ways with the Elements slab for $20 less than MSRP — naturally, this is a “limited time only” offer, and thus it could change at any given moment. Either way, that amount of greenbacks snags you an eye-pleasing 9.7-inch, IPS display with a run-of-the-mill 1GHz, single-core CPU and 16GB of built-in storage. Obviously the spotlight’s still shining high on Google’s Nexus 7, so we’re interested to find out how many of you think this is enough to make you look past the Jelly Bean sweets — do let us know in the comments below.

Archos 97 Carbon tablet arrives at the FCC

The good people over at the FCC have managed to get hold of the Archos 97 Carbon tablet which was recently spotted earlier this month. From the FCC filing, we do know that some of the more elite among you consumer electronics purveyors out there might consider the Archos 97 Carbon tablet to be a poor man’s Android-powered device. It is all part of the strategy of Archos’ low-cost Elements range, where this 9.7″ tablet which is powered by the Ice Cream Sandwich operating system will be powered by a 1GHz single-core processor, featuring various connectivity options in the form of an HDMI out port, a microUSB port, USB support, dual cameras that help you capture photos regardless of which direction the tablet is facing, and a microSD memory card slot that will help complement the 16GB of internal memory that the Archos 97 Carbon already comes with. Would you consider picking up the Archos 97 Carbon tablet when it arrives in the mass market, or do you already have your heart set on an iPad?

Archos 97 Carbon breaks cover at the FCC

Archos’ recently outed 97 Carbon is the poor man’s Android slate… intentionally. Part of the French outfit’s low-cost Elements line, the 9.7-inch ICS tablet saw an official unveiling earlier this month and is now making an obligatory step-and-repeat at the FCC. We’ve already been given the full rundown on the tab’s innards — single-core 1GHz CPU, ports for HDMI-out, micro-USB, USB, dual camera setup and vacant microSD slot to complement the 16GB of storage onboard — so there’s not much new info to glean from the filings, aside from some candid lab shots. Regardless, feel free to hit up the source below to tour it all, or just navigate your way to an online retailer if you’d rather own this one IRL.

Archos looks to periodic table for 97 Carbon inspiration

When it comes to the world of tablets, they are dime a dozen. Apple’s iPad can be “calculated” in generations, but in the highly fragmented world of Android, you know that tons of manufacturers do their utmost best to release what they deem to be the best Android-powered tablet. I cannot blame them though, as this market does seem to be an extremely lucrative one, and Archos is one of the players here. The latest range from Archos would be a member of the Elements line, and the first member of the family would be the 97 Carbon.

To cut the long story short, the Archos 97 Carbon is said to deliver the “latest mobile technology” (we will see about that) with a new slim and light design. Hopefully it will be slightly different from the competition, otherwise it is like the same burger under different packaging. Let us check out the Archos 97 Carbon in the extended post.

The Archos 97 Carbon will be part of the Elements family as mentioned earlier, which in turn is entry-level line up of 7, 8, and 9.7-inch tablets which merges Archos design and engineering alongside unrestricted access to Google Play, not to mention a full suite of Google apps without breaking the bank.

Coming in an elegant aluminum finish, the Archos 97 Carbon tips the scales at a surprisingly lightweight 21.8 ounces, where it will measure 0.45” thick. Your eyes will be treated to a sharp and clear IPS multi-touch screen that is said to deliver amazing vivid colors and impressive wide viewing angles. A 1GHz processor runs proceedings from underneath the hood, in addition to 1GB RAM and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich as the operating system version of choice. No idea on whether it will get Android 4.1 Jelly Bean in the near future, but we shall wait and see.

The Archos 97 Carbon will be available Stateside from this month onwards at $249.99 a pop – not too shabby, don’t you think so?

Archos reveals the 97 Carbon entry level tablet

Archos has revealed the first of three of its new entry-level Element line of Android tablets today, the 97 Carbon. The device has an aluminum finish and features a 9.7-inch IPS display, weighs in at 21.8 ounces, and is only .45-inches thick.

One of the main points that Archos is mentioning is that the tablet has Google Play pre-loaded, a big step up for Archos which would usually pre-load its own Archos app store to its devices before. Other features include a front and rear camera, 16GB of internal storage, Android 4.0 ICS, the ability to decode full 1080p HD videos and send it to to a HDTV via the HDMI port, 1GB of RAM, a 1GHz single-core processor, and some software pre-loaded including plenty of Google apps and Office Suite Viewer.

We don’t have an official date of release yet, just some point in this month of July. The 97 Carbon will retail for $249.99.If you think that the 9.7-inch screen is a little to big for you, they also have 7-inch and 8-inch models, which they have yet to release many details of, but expect similar specs. If you’re looking for an entry level tablet, would you be interested in the 97 Carbon? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.

Those worried that Archos hasn’t introduced a line of low-cost Android tablets in a while have reason to breathe a collective sigh of relief. The company’s gearing up for the launch of its “Elements” series, beginning with this month’s release of the 97 Carbon. No chipmunks this time out, sadly, but the Ice Cream Sandwich slate does sport a 9.7-inch IPS display, a 1GHz processor, HDMI out and a full-sized USB port. Also on-board are two cameras, 16GB of storage and a microSD slot, packed into a 0.45-inch thick aluminum body. The 97 Carbon runs $230 to $250. Archos is promising more entries in the “entry-level” Elements lineup, measuring seven, eight and 9.7 inches. Press info on this particular model can be found after the break.
