Genius Gila gaming mouse boasts buttons galore and adjustable heft

How many buttons do you have on your mouse? Two? Three? No wonder your friends laugh at you: Genius knows that, for any PC person to be taken seriously, they need a full twelve buttons on their mouse. The new Genius Gila Professional Gaming Mouse not only looks the part, thanks to metallic-finish inserts and LED lighting, but promises more customization potential than ever before.

Genius_GILA_HiRes_13

That’s in both software and hardware, somewhat unusually. Each of the twelve buttons can be set to the function of your choosing, or assigned to one of up to 72 macros; they’re stored in the mouse’s own, onboard storage, rather than on your PC, so that in-game macro blocks won’t be able to prevent them from running, and meaning no setup time if you change system.

Five levels of precision – from 200dpi to 8200dpi – are supported, and the setting can be changed mid-game. Meanwhile, unlike a regular mouse (either computer or live), you can open up a panel on the base of the Gila and slot in up to six of the supplied weights, each 4.5g, to adjust the heft of the peripheral to suit your preferences.

As for the lighting, that can be tweaked from ubiquitous-but-perhaps-a-bit-2000s-now blue to any of 16m different colors, complete with selectable brightness and pulsation. A double-braided cable and gold-plated jack round out the key specs.

The Genius GX Gaming Series Gila mouse is on sale now, priced at $99.99.

ClamCase Pro turns your iPad into an ultrabook

Last summer we talked about the original ClamCase for the iPad. That product is a keyboard case that turns your iPad into something that looks a lot like the MacBook Air. The manufacturer of that case is back with a new version called the ClamCase Pro.

clam-pro

The new version of the case has an aluminum enclosure providing a new look, better durability, and added protection. The Pro version of the iPad case is the thinnest and lightest the company has offered and promises to improve productivity for people who like to work from their iPad. The case has a 360° hinge that allows for infinite viewing angles for the tablet and makes it easy to change from laptop mode to tablet mode.

The biggest feature of the case is the integrated keyboard. The keyboard uses an elevated island style promising typing comfort and efficiency. The keyboard has a no-code, one-button sync feature to pair with the iPad via Bluetooth. The new version of the case also has a battery key allowing users to manage power.

The battery inside the keyboard case promises months of use on a single charge. The keyboard case is made from aluminum and glossy white polycarbonate for the section that holds the iPad. The case can be ordered now for $169 and will ship in February. It supports the iPad 2, iPad 3, and iPad 4.

ScreenSavrz Cover Protects iMac Displays without Flying Toasters

There’s something to be said about taking care of your computer monitors, especially about the ones that come included in all-in-one computers. You can’t really change those easily when there’s something wrong with them, so it makes sense to be very careful, just in case.

Apart from being spelled somewhat annoyingly, Radtech’s ScreenSavrz is a good way to protect your screen from physical damage. It’s an ultra-light, stretchy cloth cover for your iMac screen, designed to protect the display from dust and dirt when it’s not in use. It also doubles as a way to clean and polish fingerprints from your screen.

FreedomPop iPhone sleeve stuck at the FCC

Back in October 2012, we talked a bit about the FreedomPop device that promised and free 4G connectivity to Apple gadgets such as the iPhone. The FreedomPop device for the iPhone also has an internal battery and would sell for $99. The problem for the manufacturer is that the iPhone sleeve has been stuck at the FCC.

freedompop

FreedomPop has announced that its WiMAX iPhone sleeve has been delayed in the FCC approval process due to an untested design element. According to the company, the delay is unexpected and has cost it a significant amount of money. FreedomPop says that the delay has cost it $550,000 so far.

FreedomPop CEO Stephen Stokols told FierceWireless during CES 2013 that the holdup had to do with the design of the iPhone sleeve, which placed the WiMAX radio right next to the iPhone cellular radio. According to the CEO, the FCC hadn’t tested a device with a radio against a radio design in the past. That meant that the FCC had to do extensive testing on the sleeve when used with the iPhone.

That extensive testing has delayed the commercial release of the sleeve for the iPhone 4 and 4S. The iPhone version of the WiMAX sleeve had previously been up for pre-order, but the FCC testing delay meant the company stopped taking pre-orders a while ago. Stokols said that the company has 5000 of the sleeves at U.S. Customs waiting for FCC approval. He does expect that approval to come within the next “few weeks” and then the sleeves will begin shipping immediately.

PhotoFast launches i-FlashDrive HD

PhotoFast has launched a new product CES 2013 called the i-FlashDrive HD. Don’t confuse this updated product with the companies i-FlashDrive that we talked about last summer. The new version has changes to make it work with the latest iPhone 5 and other tweaks.

iflashhd

The second-generation i-FlashDrive HD is designed to allow users to transfer, you, and share documents, images, video, and audio files between a number of gadgets and Apple devices. The transfer files between something such as your iPhone and your computer can be accomplished using the i-FlashDrive HD without needing battery power, a Wi-Fi network, or mobile network.

The new version of the drive is faster and slimmer than the original. The new device is compatible with the iPhone 5 when used in conjunction with the Apple Lightning adapter and will work for 30-pin devices as well. The hardware flash drive device works in conjunction with an application allowing users to upload, organize, edit, and manage files across multiple devices.

Those devices can include Mac computers, PCs, iPad, iPhone, and other devices that have a USB port. Video and other files can be played directly from the i-FlashDrive. The drive is available with 8 GB, 16 GB, 32 GB, or 64 GB of storage. The i-FlashDrive HD ranges in price from $99-$329 depending on the capacity and all four capacities are available now.

Kensington Proximo: A Bluetooth tracking dongle for the perpetually paranoid

There was a time when getting ready to leave the house meant grabbing keys and your chimney-sweeper; now, we’re stuffing out pockets and bags with phones, tablets, portable chargers, games consoles, and more. For those paranoid about forgetting something – or losing it along the way – Kensington offers the Proximo, an app-based tracking system that uses Bluetooth fobs to keep tabs on your essentials.

kensington_proximo_1

The Proximo system can track up to five items concurrently, with the iPhone app showing their distance and pinging up a warning if you’re leaving them behind. Kensington offers a Fob, which hooks onto your keychain, and a Tag, which is designed to attach to other items; each runs for about six months on the replaceable CR2042 Li-Ion coin-style battery.

kensington_proximo_5

Inside there’s Bluetooth Smart 4.0, noted for its power-frugal efficiency. That’s what means you don’t have to keep recharging the Fobs and Tags every few days; Kensington will sell a Proximo Starter Kit, with one Fob and one Tag, and then subsequent Tags separately.

Individual distances before a reminder sounds can be set for each of the dongles, and the button on the Fob, when pressed, triggers an alarm on your iPhone, just in case it’s it that’s lost. The Proximo Starter Kit will be priced at $59.99, while each additional Tag will be $24.99.

Audiovox shows off new automotive wireless charging cradle at CES

It’s never fun to fiddle with wires when it’s time to charge your smartphone or other device, but fiddling with wires in a car while driving can be downright dangerous. Having to fight wires can get very annoying, but thankfully there are a number of inductive charging systems on the market that allow you to simply place your device on a charge plate when you need more power. Some of these wireless charging cradles use Qi technology.

220px-Qi_logo.svg

Car electronics manufacturer Audiovox has announced a new product category at CES 2013. The company has unveiled its first automotive wireless charging cradle with embedded Qi technology. The automotive charging cradle uses the Qi Multi Litz Coil Array.

That particular coil array is designed to deliver more freedom of positioning for Qi equipped smartphones to maximize the charge speed. The wireless charging cradle has a stylish and rugged design that will be available in four different colors to allow users to choose the color that goes along with the vehicle. The charging cradle features a universal design with locking arms.

Audiovox says that the design will hold most smartphones. The charge cradle also features a design that is optimized for heat dissipation, capacitive sensing to activate charging, and features an LED charge indicator. The charge indicator makes it easier to see when the phone is getting power. The system ships with an automotive 12 V adapter and two mounting options are available. Those two mounting options include a suction cup and a cup holder mount. Audiovox is targeting a price of under $70 plus the selected mounting system with availability set for the summer.

PowerSkin shows off next generation battery cases at CES 2013

It doesn’t matter what type of smartphone you prefer, one thing all smartphone users can agree on is that sometimes you just need more power. No matter if you’re using an iPhone or an Android device, at some point your phone is going to go dead just when you need it. To address this problem there are plenty of cases for smartphones on the market that have batteries built-in to extend runtime.

powerskin-1

Some of the more popular battery cases are in the PowerSkin line. The company is showing off some of its new offerings at CES 2013 including a new Pro Series double injected hard plastic/TPU coated iPhone 5 battery case available in a variety of colors. The series of cases is called the PowerSkin Pro and comes in white, black, titanium, red, and pink.

Inside the case is a 2000 mAh battery and the case has LED indicator lights to show at a glance how much power is left in its internal battery. Another new battery device is called the Hybrid Battery Charger. This device uses small suction cups to adhere to the outside of the mobile device and has a soft flex tip to fit various devices including Apple smartphones. This battery is 2000 mAh power inside and will be offered in black, white, titanium, red, and pink.

Another new product offering is the PowerSkin Battery Case for iPhone 5. The manufacturer claims this is its slimmest design ever making it fit comfortably in the palm of hand when installed. The thin case promises to extend the talk time of the iPhone 5 up to six hours and extend Wi-Fi usage up to an additional eight hours. The case has 1500 mAh the power inside and has an on-off switch to save the battery power for when it’s needed. This case is also available for the Samsung Galaxy S III.
