Nokia Lumia wireless charging pad leaks

An image of Nokia’s wireless charging pad for the upcoming Lumia Windows Phone 8 refreshed range has leaked, seemingly confirming that not only the flagship model will support cable-free recharging. Shared by evleaks, and coming only hours after whispers that the Lumia 920 PureView would have wireless charging, the image shows a roughly phone-sized puck onto which the handset drops.

No further detail has been given on the accessory, but there’s presumably a magnet inside to keep the Lumia in place. Interestingly, the image shows both the leaked Lumia 920 PureView and the Lumia 820 using the dock – the two phones are slightly different in design – which indicates Nokia isn’t leaving wireless charging solely for its new flagship.

Wireless charging has been attempted before, both by manufacturers like Palm/HP and by third-party accessory companies, though has failed to reach a tipping point. Nokia, as a sizable player in the phone business – albeit one that has seen smartphone share dwindle in recent years – could push the technology to the next level.

According to previous rumors, Nokia’s wireless charging will be compliant with the Qi system, meaning owners of the updated Lumias won’t be limited solely to the Finn’s own charging puck. Meanwhile, a second new image shows both handsets with a matching yellow Bluetooth earpiece.

We’ll find out more when we head to New York City on Wednesday, September 5, to join Microsoft and Nokia as they unveil the new Windows Phone 8 Lumia line-up.

Nokia Purity Pro Wireless headphones arrive ahead of WP8 Lumias

Nokia may be ramping up for its Windows Phone 8 launch later this week, but the company has taken out a few minutes to reveal a new range of wireless Monster headphones. The Nokia Purity Pro Wireless Stereo Headset by Monster comes in a range of colors and hook up via NFC to your smartphone; that seems as good a tip as any that Nokia’s new Windows Phone 8 line-up will include the short-range wireless tech.

Once paired, the Purity Pro headphones use Bluetooth for streaming audio, and also function as a hands-free kit for calls. There’s active noise cancellation, too, which uses a combination of technologies to smooth out not only persistent ambient noise but percussive noise too, such as knocks and bumps.

Both noise cancellation and Bluetooth are turned on and off by folding and unfolding the headset. They’ll go on sale in Q4 2012, priced €299 ($376).

As for Windows Phone 8, SlashGear will be in New York City on Wednesday, September 5 covering all of the news of Nokia’s new Lumia line-up. Two of what’s tipped to be three new phones have already been leaked, the Lumia 920 PureView and Lumia 820, and it’s worth noting that the colors in the press photos match up with the different color options for the Purity Pro headphones.

Cirago iAlertTag makes it easier to keep track of your iPhone

Some people have a hard time keeping up with their smartphones at home in the office. I think my wife may lose her smartphone at least three times per day inside the house. She can never remember where she set it down, and we end up having to walk around the house listing for it ring what I call it. If you have a similar issue keeping up with your iPhone, Cirago has a new product that will make keeping up with your device simple called the iAlertTag.

The iAlertTag is a Bluetooth 4.0 smart device that can be used to wirelessly secure, alert, and locate your iPhone if lost. The system is designed specifically to help you not leave your iPhone or other products behind. The iAlertTag creates a wireless link using Bluetooth between your phone and the tag causing both the phone and the tag to vibrate when separated.

An audible alarm also sounds when device and the tag are separated. While the iAlertTag supports the iPhone, it will work with several other devices as well. The company says if you’re using the system with a Windows computer, the tag can automatically lock the computer when you walk away so it stays secure.

An iPhone companion app is available free on the App Store that allows the alarm to play any tune from the iTunes library. The app also supports the management of multiple tags at the same time. The iAlertTag IAT1000 supports the iPhone 4S, third generation iPad, and Windows computers using Bluetooth 4.0. The system is available for $49.99 online and in some retail stores.

This Is Most Probably The New iPhone Cable

xlarge

This is most probably the new iPhone cable posted by some folks at Shenzhen-based Veister, an iPhone accessories maker that is clearly trading Apple partner status for a brief uptick in visitors.

The cable shows the 8 pin connector we’ve been expecting for the past few weeks and it looks good enough (you can tell by the pixels) for me to say this is probably what we’re going to see in a few weeks at the official event.

At this point in the game I wouldn’t be surprised if someone finds a boxed new iPhone in a claw machine in Scranton, PA.

As you’ll recall, I initially heard that this would be a 19-pin connector but much smaller than the current 30-pin. Instead, they fooled us all with this “universal” 8-pin which seems to offer the same structural stability as the old dock solution.

IRISNotes 2 digital pen turns handwritten notes into text documents

One of the problems I had in college wasn’t taking notes during lectures; the problem was keeping up with those notes. I always seemed to lose the most important sheets ahead of the test and ended up scrambling around trying to find them. If you take a lot of notes in college or the business world, the IRISNotes 2 digital pen system may be of interest to you.

This device can take your handwritten notes using what appears to be a normal ink pen and turns those notes into editable text documents on your computer. The system is very easy to use simply requiring you to write on standard sheets of paper. Some systems like this require you to use special paper to transform the notes into digital text.

The system uses a pen that gets power from a battery and a receiver that clips to the top of the notebook or page. The receiver can store 100 pages of text and then download the information to a computer via a USB cable. The software running on the computer uses optical character recognition and converts the handwriting into text that can be sent to Word, Outlook, Notepad and other applications.

The IRISNotes 2 system comes in two versions, including Express and Executive. The Express system ships with a battery-powered pen and four replacement batteries with aluminum carrying case. The Executive version has a pen with a rechargeable battery, a leather carry pouch, and 30-pin connector to share notes directly with the iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. The Express system sells for $99. The Executive system sells for $149, and both are available now.

ECOXPOWER adds a headlight and smartphone charger to your bicycle

At first glance, this seems like a weird device. It’s designed as both a headlight and a smartphone charger for your bicycle in one device. Every time I see something like this it reminds me of that episode of The Simpsons where Bart has the headlight dynamo generator thingy that makes it nearly impossible to pedal his bike. I don’t think you’ll have that problem with the ECOXPOWER.

The device has a universal mount and can attach to most standard and oversized bicycle clubs. The included handlebar mount is water-resistant and touchscreen capable for smartphones and GPS devices. The headlight portion of the device uses ultrabright LED lights in the front and red LEDs on the rear to act to stop lights.

Not only will the device shed light on nighttime bike rides; it also helps drivers and pedestrians see cyclists in the dark. The device ships with the USB adapter cable designed to run up for the bike to the handlebar mounted smartphone case. The design of the system uses a clutch and engages between the wheel spokes operating the generator as the wheel spins.

The included smartphone case works for the iPhone and Android devices among other gear. The system includes a remote on/off switch for the headlight that can be mounted to the handlebars. The device also has an integrated rechargeable battery. You can purchase the ECOXPOWER now for $99.99.

Mobi Lens Clips onto Just About Any Smartphone or Tablet Camera

Add-on lenses for smartphones are one of the easiest ways of improving your mobile photography. I’ve seen some magnetic lenses, but what happens when your precious phone is hidden away underneath a protective case? Mobi-Lens comes to the rescue with an interesting design for a clip-on lens that will solve your woes.

Mobi-Lens is a clip-on lens system for mobile devices that features a lens on each side. You’ll have access to a fisheye and macro/wide-angle lens depending on which side you favor. While the design isn’t the most elegant, it does seem quite functional and versatile, thanks to its spring-loaded, Chip-Clip style design.

The Mobi-Lens was launched as a Kickstarter crowd-funded project, and you’ll need to pledge at least $30(USD) to get a single lens, and $60 or more for the two lens combo pack.

Whatever your niche, you can bet there’s a product out there to fill it. Nyko, in particular, has made a bit of a habit of fulfilling a particular need: manufacturing third-party battery accessories for all those short-lived handhelds. The outfit has such a solid track record in the category, in fact, that we had little doubt its PlayStation Vita Power Grip ($25) would live up to its life-giving hype — but we decided to put it to the test all the same.

Cthulhu Purse Perfect for Evil Evenings on the Town

I’ve seen lots of Cthulhu-inspired merch over the years, but I can say with 100% certainty that this is the first Cthulhu evening bag that I’ve come across.

cthulhu evening bag

The winged, tentacled demon beast with beady yellow eyes is the perfect fashion accessory for an evening out with friends. It’s funny that its creator, Razorblade Cupcake refers to the plush evening bag as “adorable.” That’s the first time I’ve heard that word used to describe Cthulhu.

So if you’re looking for an accessory to go with your evening wear that you’re sure nobody else will be carrying, head on over to Etsy and grab the Cthulhu evening bag now for $50(USD).
