Apple seems to be on an acquisition spree lately. It acquired two companies recently, a location data one aptly named Locationary and HopStop, the developers of a popular navigation app. AllThingsD reports that Apple has now purchased a small wireless chip maker called Passif Semiconductor, which is based in Silicon Valley, the financial terms behind this deal have not been disclosed.
The report says that Amy Bessette, a spokeswoman for Apple, has confirmed that the Cupertino giant has indeed acquired Passif Semiconductor. She’s quoted as saying that Apple buys “smaller technology companies” at various times and that it does not discuss its plans or purpose behind those acquisitions. It is believed that Passif’s forte is developing small low power wireless communication chips, the technology might find its way over to future iPhones and iPads. It is also believed that their technology might be used for the company’s much rumored iWatch, of which no one has any idea when the company intends on releasing it. As is the case with such industry acquisitions, both companies have not revealed the terms of this deal.
