Twist Tie Action Figures: Battle of the Bent

While twist ties can come in handy for wrapping up cables or closing plastic bags, they’re pretty boring little things. But where you may see something of utility, one artist sees a medium for making wondrous sculptures.

In fact, artist Shota Katsube made not just one or two little action figures out of colored twist ties – he built an entire army out of them. All told, there are 300 of the little sculptures, each with unique weapons and stances. They measure from about 3 to 5 centimeters (~1.18″ to 1.96″) in height. They were made without any other structure besides the twist ties themselves, and can stand on their own.

You can see these incredible little sculptures on display at the Souzou: Outsider Art from Japan exhibit at London’s Wellcome Collection through June 30.

Slave Padme Action Figure: Leia’s Mother Dresses Like Her Daughter

Man I hated the prequels, but they had one thing going for them. Padmé Amidala was easy on the eyes – even if we didn’t get to see her in a scantily clad slave outfit like Princess Leia. But thanks to JVcustoms we now know what this would have looked like.

slave padme
That’s right, it looks a lot like Leia’s body with Padme’s head. Because that is how this custom action figure was made.

This is all we really needed in the prequels. More of this please, and less Jar Jar. I have needs and one of them is to see sexy women chained to a giant slug. I don’t need to see some whiny kid slammed into his mother’s womb by midi-f-ing-chlorians. Only to crawl out and whine that he’s a slave, then do all kinds of stupid stuff to become the bad guy. There is no way that wimpy ass whiny little turd became Darth Vader. No way. Ok, I’m gonna stop now and just enjoy this figure. Clearly, I’m still working through some issues.

Miniature Restroom for Action Figures: Everyone Poops

Action figures come with all sorts of props, but the Japanese hobby shop Amiami has one prop that you most certainly don’t have in your collection yet. It’s a 1:12 scale restroom. Why? Because your action figures haven’t gone since they were packed in their box. Think about that.

miniature toilet for action figures by amiami

It comes with a toilet, a sink, a couple of urinals, a toilet paper holder, a trash can, a floor, walls and stickers. I don’t know what the stickers depict and I don’t want to know.

You can order the miniature restroom from Amiami for about $25 (USD). Then check your action figures for the action figure that holds its pose best, the proper stiff one. The constipation is strong in that one. Make him sit on the throne first.

G.I. Joe Action Sunglasses Mint on Card: Seeing is Half the Battle

I don’t wear sunglasses, but I would if they came mint on action figure cards like these G.I. Joe sunglasses. All fashion accessories should come on geeky cards like this. They would sell a lot more of them, I’m certain.

These super limited-edition G.I. Joe sunglasses from LOOK/SEE are awesome. Hmmm, to take them off the card and wear them or leave them mint? Tough decision. These action figure inspired glasses come in several versions, from Cobra Commander to Snake Eyes.

Hardcore Joe fans will want to buy some of these before they are gone. They cost $110(USD) a pair. Only 100 units of each design will be made. Each pair comes in a limited-edition blister package based on the original action figure toy packaging.

Justice League x Koreajani Mini-Figures: It’s Hip to be Square

Fans of the Justice League, here’s another bunch of fun collectibles to put on your shelf. I’m pretty sure you’ve never seen your favorite DC superheroes look quite like this.

These collectible Justice League figures were made by Japan’s Kotobukiya in collaboration with DC Comics and Zarigani Works[JP]. Each of these little superheroes features an stylized off-kilter, blocky look which I really dig.

You can’t see it in the pics, but they actually have wheels in their backs and turn into vehicles when you set them on a smooth surface too. They’re available in a set including Flash, Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern – in both a plain or metallic finish. The full set of 10 sells for $55.99(USD) over at Entertainment Earth.

LEGO Gundam is Too Good to Be Official

If you spent the rest of your day putting your skull back together after seeing Gyuta K.’s LEGO Eva Gundam, brace yourself. Because as it turns out, he has an earlier project so awesome it will beam saber your brain to bits. It’s a LEGO action figure of the White Devil, the RX-78-2 Gundam.

lego gundam rx 78 2 by gyuta

Like many action figures, this LEGO Gundam has several points of articulation, making it quite poseable. And like many LEGO creations, the Gundam has swappable parts, including two different chests. One chest has a cockpit for a minifig Amuro Ray while the other transforms into the FF-X7 Core Fighter. I think I just saw parts of your cerebellum drip out of your nose.

Unfortunately, I’m going to have to de-blow your minds. You see, Gyuta K. uploaded the pictures and details of his masterpiece on MOCPages way back in 2010. I know what you’re thinking – LEGO Cuusoo! Gyuta K. did submit a proposal to LEGO’s website, but it was rejected “for not following the Guidelines.” I guess it was just too badass to be mass-produced. Activate your Newtype powers and fly to Gyuta K.’s MOCPages page to see more of the action figure.

U.S. President Monster Action Figures: Fear to the Chief

You might think that only a real history buff would love U.S. President action figures, but anyone can get into these Presidential action figures as movie monsters. And besides, many of us think that politicians are freaks and monsters already.
monster presidents
These 8″ action figures take well-known U.S. Presidents and transform them into monsters. The names are the best: Like Zombush, Baracula and Lincolnstein to name a few. They are perfect to display at Halloween – or around Election Day.

If you love monsters and love Presidents, these figures are for you. Re-elect these monsters at your own risk. And try not to scream on Election Day at the horror. They will cost you $24.99-$29.99(USD).

Take My Money: Hasbro Star Wars Black Series Action Figures

I love the classic Kenner Star Wars action figures. I still have many of these originals in my toy collection. That said, I haven’t been impressed by many of the Star Wars action figure lines since. Some are too muscular and look silly, others just seem cheap looking to me. But the new Star Wars Black Series looks ridiculously awesome.
Star Wars Black Series
The first wave of this new line of figures will be released in August of 2013 and the image above should be enough to get your attention. Look at the detail on Luke and his X-Wing pilot suit. These figures are 6″ tall and have added articulation, and removable accessories to go with that extra detail.

Star Wars Black Series1
They aren’t priced super high either. We’re talking $19.99(USD) each. The first wave will include Luke Skywalker, R2-D2, Darth Maul, and an Imperial Sandtrooper. I can’t wait to see them come out with Boba Fett in this series. Stay tuned for pre-order details as they emerge.

LEGO Iron Man Mk. VII Concept: Brick Man

A few months ago Mike McCooey wowed the Web with his poseable LEGO Spider-Man. Now he’s back with another poseable LEGO superhero, and with your support, perhaps LEGO can make it an official product. It’s an amazing build of Tony Stark in his Iron Man Mark VII armor.

lego iron man mk vii concept by mike mccooey

Mike says that while his Iron Man figure is not as poseable as his Spidey figure, it still has over 50 points of articulation. It also has six independent light bricks: one in his head, chest, one on each head and one on each foot. Iron Man may be more fragile in his bricky suit, but he’s still packing heat. He has wrist-mounted lasers, thigh- and shoulder-mounted missiles and more.

You really should check out Mike’s Flickr page to see the details on this figure. Mike has also setup a LEGO Cuusoo campaign. You know how that works: if his campaign gets 10,000 votes, LEGO will think about making it official. Otherwise LEGO’s not even gonna think about thinking about it.

Minecraft Steve Vinyl Action Figures Won’t Dig a Hole In Your Pocket

These are awesome action figures of the player’s avatar in Minecraft. If you play the game then these are also action figures of yourself. Although you can’t customize Steve’s skin, he – or she – does have a ball-jointed head and poseable arms.

Steve comes in two variants, both 6″ tall. The simpler version comes with Steve in his default clothes, along with his trust pickaxe and a 2″ dirt block. Then there’s the more experienced and battle ready Steve, who’s wearing diamond armor along with removable diamond sword and diamond helmet.
