Black Ops 2 Uprising DLC Launching On April 16 With New Story-Driven Zombies Adventure

Earlier this week, a promotional image was spotted at a Best Buy which potentially leaked the next piece of DLC content for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. The leaked “Uprising” promotional image looked to feature four new multiplayer maps as well as what seemed to be a new co-op zombies map called Mob of the Dead. It looks as though that leak was spot on as Activision announced the official details for its upcoming Uprising DLC pack.

The Uprising DLC pack will include new multiplayer maps called Magma, Encore, Vertigo and Studio, all of which you’ll see in the video above. In addition to those four multiplayer maps, Treyarch is also delivering “a reimagining of the classic map Firing Range” as well as a new “zombie adventure” called Mob of the Dead. (more…)

Activision axes 40 High Moon Studios employees upon completion of Deadpool

Pink slips were flying around the offices at High Moon Studios today as Activision has decided to lay off 40 of its full-time employees. The cuts began happening right after the High Moon Studios team completed development of Activision’s upcoming Deadpool game. Activision stated that it “works to align its costs with its revenues,” and that reducing its staff is all part of aligning “our development talent against our slate.”

Activision axes 40 High Moon Studio employees upon completion of Deadpool

While there is a massive amount of lay offs happening at High Moon Studios, development of its future Transformers games, including War of Cybertron, Dark of the Moon, and Fall of Cybertron, will not be affected. It was only back in February when Activision decided to lay off 30 full-time employees from both its offices as well as from Treyarch’s studios. It released a similar statement back then, saying that it “works to align its costs with its revenue”.

Like the employees that were laid off back in February, the employees laid off from High Moon Studios will be offered outplacement counseling services. The counseling services will help the employees through the termination of their job, and will hopefully be able to help them secure new employment elsewhere. The services usually help set up interviews, assist in job searches, offer networking services, and much more in order to help the employee transition to their next job.

Deadpool’s storyline is penned by Daniel Way, who wrote the former Deadpool comics. Deadpool’s character will be voiced by Nolan North, who has voiced Deadpool in the past. The game is a 3rd person action game with a major emphasis on guns and swords. Deadpool will break the 4th wall numerous times to offer players hints, and also to add humor to the game. Deadpool is set to launch over the summer on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and the PC.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Next DLC ‘Uprising’ Releasing On April 16 [Rumor]

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Next DLC Uprising Releasing On April 16 [Rumor]

The release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2′s Revolution Map Pack DLC brought a number of additional multiplayer maps, a new co-op map, new game mode called Turned and, for the first time in the franchise’s history, a new downloadable weapon. But as many Call of Duty fans expected, the next piece of DLC for Black Ops 2 seems to be right around the corner according to recently leaked promotional material.

The leaked promotional material outs the name of the DLC pack, known as “Uprising,” and will feature four new multiplayer maps called Vertigo, Encore, Studio and Magma, as well as something called “Mob of the Dead,” which we assume is a new co-op level. The Uprising map pack is expected to be released on April 16, which if it turns out to be true, means we’ll probably be hearing from Activision in regards to the new DLC next week. For now, just keep enjoying the Revolution Map Pack until Activision announces Uprising, although we’re pretty sure if you really enjoy playing Black Ops 2, you’ve probably already exhausted their first piece of DLC by now.

Bungie’s Destiny Shown Off In New Character Development Video

It was this past winter when Bungie finally unveiled their first multi-platform game, Destiny, and considering what an excellent job they did with its Halo franchise, you can expect many first-person shooter fans to highly anticipate the game’s release. At this week’s Game Developer’s Conference, Bungie showed off a new video for Destiny highlighting the game’s character development so far.

Considering how tight-lipped Bungie has been in regards to Destiny so far, this character development video is just what gamers need in order to attempt to understand what exactly is going on in the game. In the video, you’ll see a number of classes that will be available to play as in the game, and what we assume to be some of the different species you’ll come across in the game. You’ll see a number of concept art, 3D models and even getting to see some of the models moving about. (more…)

Activision Shows Next-Gen Tech At GDC With Impressive Visuals

The next-generation of video game consoles will usher in some amazing visuals, which we already caught a glimpse of during Sony’s PlayStation 4 unveiling. Activision’s R&D department took center stage yesterday during the company’s GDC panel called “next-generation character rendering,” which after you see their tech demo, will have you wondering if it’s creepy or super awesome.

The real-time character demo is a 2-minute long video that highlights a number of amazing improvements in regards to a character’s facial gestures. The demo, which is all running in real-time, captures the actor’s face, eye movements, skin imperfections and nearly every emotion the actor could think of. (more…)

Call Of Duty Elite App For Windows Phone 8

Call Of Duty Elite App For Windows Phone 8 You know something? I never figured out that the day would come when a company would actually roll out an app that has something to do with a game. Such a thing is practically unheard of, and Activision has just introduced the Call of Duty Elite app for Windows Phone 8. In a nutshell, Call of Duty fans will be able to make use of this official app from Activision in order to keep track of their stats, which means you can now throw away all of that pencil and paper.

Call of Duty Elite is best described as an online service which will enable users to track all of their stats from the Call of Duty series. First launched in the middle of 2011 on the Xbox 360 platform followed by a PS3 release, it is nice to see the same app being ported over to the Windows Phone 8 platform, allowing you to keep track of your stats on the go no matter where you are, as long as there is a decent Internet connection in place, of course. With this Windows Phone 8 app, you can gain access to unique content, daily competitions with prizes, Elite TV, and insider analysis among others. Not only that, this app is free for Windows Phone 8 users. Whoopee!

Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2 Will Microtransaction Xbox 360 Players

Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2 Will Microtransaction Xbox 360 Players

Microtransactions have become quite common in games today, which can be seen as a good or bad thing depending what side of the fence you’re standing on. On one hand, microtransactions can add to a game if you’re somebody who doesn’t have time to earn it yourself within a game. On the other, it could also hold back a good portion of the gameplay experience just so the developer could nickel and dime you. Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will soon go the microtransaction route.

Starting tomorrow, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will receive an update to offer a free Nuketown 2025 map, the option to download the Nuketown Zombies map and something Activision is called “Micro items.” These reworded microtransactions allow players to spend additional money in order to receive a number of benefits from the game, such as paying 160 Microsoft Points ($2) to receive ten additional Create-a-Class slots.

You can also spend 80 points ($1) to a “Flags of the World Calling Card Packs, and 160 points ($2) for a “Personalization Pack” that allows you to customize your weapon, Calling Card and reticle. Activision showed off one of the packs, called the “Bacon personalization pack” which equips your weapons in a delicious coat of bacon. We’re not sure why you’d want such a skin, but if it’s one thing we do know, it’s that everyone loves bacon.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II on sale, double XP this weekend

Treyarch and Activision’s newest Call of Duty installment is getting a big promotion this weekend on Steam. The game is on sale through Monday for only $40 ($54 for the Digital Deluxe edition). Plus, Black Ops II multiplayer will be free to play all weekend long until Sunday at 1 pm PT. Players will also receive double XP during this time.

If you’re not sure of the difference between the regular edition and the Digital Deluxe edition, the latter includes the Nuketown Zombies and Nuketown 2025 bonus maps, weapon camouflage skin, two player card backgrounds, the official soundtrack, and a free download of Call of Duty: World at War — all for only $14 more!

As for double XP and the free weekend, all platforms that the game is available on are eligible to play. It officially starts at 10 am PT, which is just in a couple of hours as of this writing. The free weekend will end on Sunday at 1 pm PT, while gamers will be eligible for double XP until Monday at 10 am PT.

This marks the first time that Call of Duty: Black Ops II has been free to play for the weekend, but it’s actually the third time that the game has seen a double XP weekend. Treyarch and Activision held the first double XP weekend back in December, and then later on just last month. So far, it looks like the companies are hosting these types of events once a month, so we may see more double XP weekends coming up throughout the rest of the spring and summer.

Activision and Bungie show off Destiny for PS4

Eric Hirshberg from Activision took the stage at today’s PlayStation 4 event and is talking more about Destiny, the recently-announced fantasy title from Bungie. The game has been in the works for 10 years now, and the developer finally showed off some in-game footage at tonight’s event. Basically, Bungie’s goal with Destiny was to take the FPS and “turn it on its head again.”

Screen Shot 2013-02-20 at 8.00.01 PM (2)

We only saw a tiny bit of gameplay here at the event, but the developers say that Destiny will be fully compatible with the PS4, meaning that Destiny will let you enjoy the game and its content from multiple devices. Destiny will not only be coming to the PS4, but also the PS3, and there’ll be “exclusive, playable” content for just the PlayStation versions.

Bungie is calling the new game the world’s first shared-world shooter because gamers will be able to access the game and the content through the cloud via the PS4, something that will be both intriguing, as well as interesting to see in action. Overall, though, the developers didn’t reveal much about the new game, but we’ve already heard plenty within the past couple of weeks anyway.

It’s said that Destiny will arrive on the PS4 and the next-generation Xbox sometime in 2014, and since it will also be arriving on the PS3, it may also show up for the Xbox 360 as well, but that has yet to be confirmed. Since Bungie’s Halo series was so successful, Destiny may certainly have the same fate.

Sony teases PlayStation 4 developer list, includes many of the majors (update: Blizzard and Bungie)

Sony teases PlayStation 4 developer list, includes many of the majors

Want to know just who’s developing for the PlayStation 4? Sony just gave is a very good peek: it’s promising worldwide support for the console, and quickly flashed just which companies that entails. The cursory look shows us many familiar heavyweights, such as 2K, Activision, Capcom, EA, Konami and Ubisoft. We’ve also spotted Rockstar, Square Enix and other names that most would have hoped for with the new PlayStation. Suffice it to say that Sony hasn’t had any problems attracting the support it needs for a decent early lineup, although we don’t know how many of these developers will have something ready for launch day.

Update: A few exist that aren’t (directly) mentioned in the graphic above: Blizzard is porting Diablo III to the PS4, and Bungie will put its future MMO-like shooter, Destiny, on the game machine.

Check out our liveblog of Sony’s event to get the latest news as it happens!
