Google implements local business AdWords to Maps on Android and iOS

DNP Google adds AdWords to Maps

Love ’em, ignore ’em or pay a buck to get rid of them, mobile ads are more than just a waste of space, they’re almost a necessary evil. To that effect, Google Maps is populating its search results with local — and hopefully relevant — AdWords starting today. Let’s say you’re looking for a taqueria in Bushwick, Brooklyn; if you’re running the latest version of the app, an ad for Tortilleria Mexicana Los Hermanos could appear at the bottom of your screen. Tapping it brings up a card with review ratings, a call shortcut and sharing buttons. From what we’ve seen, it’s unobtrusive and actually kind of helpful, unlike some of Mountain View’s other advertising experiments. Now, about those tacos…

Google Algorithm Busts Chinese Car Theft Ring Entirely by Accident

Every sci-fi movie about inventions rising up to take over the world is built upon one unchangeable seed crystal: the moment when the technology does something its inventors never predicted. As The Verge reports, that’s exactly what happened to Google engineers in 2010, with a truth-and-justice twist — Google’s AdWords software exposed a Chinese car theft scam.

Google AdWords Helped Man Get Hooked Up

Google AdWords Helped Man Get Hooked Up Most companies who want a decent shot at Internet advertising would surely have considered Google AdWords at one point or another, and but a Japanese man decided to think out of the box, and come up with an ad on Google AdWords to look for a girlfriend. I am quite sure that many other single guys out there might actually kick themselves in the rear end for not giving this a go in the first place, especially after said Japanese man managed to bring his date (out of 5 positive responses) out for a meal.

In a nutshell, this man posted the ad a couple of months after he broke up with his previous love, where he used a “job position” style in writing his ad, which goes something like, “I’m looking for a girlfriend: Age and occupation are irrelevant. Nature of job position: love. No experience necessary.” At least 5 ladies responded, and he decided to play the gentleman and run a ’first come first served’ basis, meeting up with whom he claims is a cute lady who is a wee bit older than him. No idea on whether wedding bells are in the pipeline or not, but it sure as heck seemed to be a rather good investment for his $27 Google AdWords, considering how much dating agencies charge for an ad.

Google runs newspaper ad for Google ads, universe has yet to implode

Google knows how to tug at your heart strings when promoting its services, but it also has the whole irony thing down pat. Last Thursday, the search giant touted the advantages of its targeted advertising in the Canadian newspaper the Globe and Mail, taking out a large spread asking the delightfully smug question you see above. Lest you think Google’s pitch for AdWords wasn’t in earnest, the ad also appeared on the Globe’s website.
