Gift cards are a cop-out that screams “I’m too lazy to think about this!” But if you’re going to go that route, you might as well go with an Amazon gift card because, well, you can buy just about anything on Amazon. It’s like handing someone cash. Besides, now that Amazon’s teamed up with video greeting card service JIbJab, you can add a little personal spice to the blandest gift of all. More »
While Nokia might have had grand designs for the Nokia Lumia 800, the fact that it was a single-core handset with a small display and running on a not-so-popular platform certainly did not set it up to be a great competitor against the sea of Android and iOS devices. However with Windows Phone 8, Microsoft and their manufacturing partners have since introduced handsets with dual-core processors and larger displays and while this certainly might not measure up to newer Android handsets with quad-core processors and displays over 5”, it definitely helps make these new Windows Phone 8 devices a lot more attractive.
If you’re wondering just how well the Nokia Lumia 920 is doing for itself, it seems that if you were to take a look at Amazon’s Best Seller charts, you will notice that Nokia’s Lumia 920 takes up a fair chunk of it (thanks to its variety of colors). Of course we are looking at a list of AT&T phones so it is by no means definite or complete, but it certainly is a good indication for Nokia and the Windows Phone platform to see such reactions. So, who else decided to hop aboard the Windows Phone bandwagon after Nokia and HTC strutted their stuff earlier this year?

Kindle Fire owners with a penchant for on-the-go image editing will want to take note: Adobe’s Photoshop Touch is now live on the Appstore. The app, already a mainstay on iOS and Android’s respective markets, has been optimized for Amazon’s recent tablet lineup, scaling up for both the 7- and 8.9-inch form factors and retailing for the same $9.99 price. Unfortunately, it won’t work for owners of the original Bezos-backed tab since it still runs on the Gingerbread kernel. Sorry early adopters, but that’s the price you pay for progress.

The Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9” is now ready to ship to the masses, and it is the large screen version of the best-selling HD tablet from Amazon, where it retails for $299 a pop. It will be made available at Best Buy from tomorrow onward, in addition to other retailers such as Staples and Radio Shack, while the Kindle Fire HD 8.9” 4G will ship from next week onward.

Amazon’s Kindle Fire HD 8.9″ has begun shipping, with the LTE-enabled version due to ship out next week, although the stock of the Android slates is already tight. Available ahead of schedule, the Kindle Fire HD 8.9″ has a 1920 x 1200 254ppi display and runs Amazon’s customized Android OS on a TI OMAP4470 processor with SXG544 graphics; the WiFi-only model is priced at $299, while the 4G version starts at $499.
Two capacity versions of the Kindle HD 8.9″ WiFi are offered – 16GB and 32GB – and it’s possible to choose a subsidized model with Amazon’s Special Offers or, for $15 more, opt out of the advertising. The 4G model comes in 32GB and 64GB versions, again with a choice of having Special Offers or not.
The 4G HD 8.9″ also offers a $49.99 annual data plan, offering 250MB of AT&T data per month for a one-off payment (and only valid for the first year of ownership). Monthly plans for 3GB or 5GB of data are also available, and can be signed up for on the tablet itself.
However, if you haven’t had a preorder in, you may be waiting some time to actually get your new slate. Amazon warns that orders placed today aren’t expected to ship until the week of December 3. You may be able to find one sooner in Best Buy, however, where the Kindle Fire HD 8.9″ will go on sale from Friday this week, or in Staples or Radio Shack “in the coming weeks.”

Amazon has just announced that the Kindle Fire HD 8.9-inch ships today, ahead of its previously planned schedule of a November 20 ship date. The larger-screened version of Amazon’s Android-powered tablet starts at $299 and will also be available to purchase in stores at Best Buy locations beginning tomorrow, with additional units making their way to Staples and Radio Shack later on.
It’s rare to see a consumer electronics company ship a device earlier than expected, and in fact even delivering things on time. But the Kindle Fire HD 8.9″ is already backordered on Amazon’s site until at least December 3, so those of you who want to pick one up but haven’t already ordered online will need to brave Best Buy tomorrow to try to find one.
Amazon’s stated reasoning for going a little bit early with the Kindle Fire HD 8.9-inch is to get a jump on holiday sales, according to a statement from Kindle VP Dave Limp in an Amazon press release. The 4G version of the larger Kindle tablet still goes on sale on November 20 as planned, for $499. Amazon’s undercutting Apple’s prices across the board here, so it’ll be interesting to see how competition for holiday shopper attention between the two companies shakes out this year.
Did you skip the iPad mini and Nexus 10? Were you looking for something a little more content-focused with a form factor in between the standard sizes? Well folks, it your lucky day, because the Kindle Fire HD 8.9 is here! The larger of the Kindle brothers is now shipping, delivering its 1,920 x 1,200 display into the hands of shoppers for $299 to start. If you’re looking forward to the LTE version, that will be shipping next week on November 20th as previously announced. Of course, that model will set you back a significantly heftier $499, though, we’d say that’s still a steal considering the comparably equipped iPad (32GB of storage and 4G) goes for $729. While you wait for our full review check out the PR after the break.

Metal Gear Rising Revengeance Limited Edition is now made available on Amazon for $149.99 a pop, where it will feature Raiden, a cyborg ninja who relies on his special High Frequency katana blade that will rival Wolverine’s adamantium claws, as Raiden cuts through just about anything that stands in his (vengeful) path. Boasting an all-new style of frenetic action gameplay, Metal Gear Rising Revengeance will deliver a fast and fluid game style that is centered on katana-based combat, all held within the premise of the Metal Gear universe.
It is said that the kind of in-game technology used will push the boundaries of graphics, style and lightning-speed action gameplay, where one is able to take advantage of just about anything that has been created, described as “an all-encompassing cutting plane in real time”. Basically, you can trash the entire place any way you like it. Sounds like something that rock stars would want to vent their frustrations on without having to trash the hotel rooms that they’re staying in. The $149.99 Metal Gear Rising Revengeance Limited Edition bundle will come with a full copy of the game, an official soundtrack, a Limited Edition 2-sided Steelbook, and an exclusive high-frequency katana blade plasma lamp.

Amazon App Suite to be pre-loaded on Verizon Android devices starting with Droid DNA
Posted in: Today's ChiliSure, HTC and Verizon may have given us the long awaited pricing and launch date details for the Droid DNA, but it omitted one tidbit that we’d heard of before: Amazon’s App Suite. Starting with the DNA, select Android devices on Big Red — presumably those that aren’t of the “Google Experience” flavor — will come loaded with the Amazon-focused pane on their home screens. Though a handful of Verizon phones are already pre-loaded with Audible, Zappos and Amazon’s MP3, Kindle and Shopping apps, the suite will roll them up into one experience for easy access. By signing in with your existing Amazon account, content ranging from Kindle novels to MP3s will be at your fingertips. In addition, the Seattle-based retailer’s complete selection of products are just an impulse buy away through the app. Hit the jump to check out the mobile storefront in action.
Update: As pointed out in the comments, App Suite doesn’t support Amazon video. We’ve updated the post accordingly.
