NTT Docomo - Sony XPERIA A SO-04E - Featured at the 2013 "Summer Collection" new product press conference

“XPERIA A SO-04E” is a smartphone designed with round edges to fit in your palm well with an approx. 4.6 inch (720×1280 dot) LCD. It’s Docomo’s version of XPERIA’s global model “Sony XPERIA ZR”.

If you say XPERIA, you might remember its highly-functional camera. Sony’s CMOS image sensor “Exmor RS for mobile” is featured with “XPERIA A SO-04E” and that makes it strong against backlight. When it’s in sleep mode, it will shift to camera mode instantly by pressing a small bottom on the side so it is harder to miss the moment than with other smartphones when you want to take a photo. This is functionality that we’ve only seen with XPERIA.

It is waterproof and dustproof, and it’s compatible with NFC, infrared data communication, Bluetooth, and wallet phone function.

Unlocked Sony Xperia Z Now Officially Being Sold In The U.S.

Unlocked Sony Xperia Z Now Officially Being Sold In The U.S.

Sony unveiled the Xperia Z smartphone back at CES 2013 in January. Only last week the smartphone was spotted at the FCC, though back then it’s availability hadn’t been officially announced in the U.S. The Xperia Z smartphone is now available directly from Sony, which is selling the unlocked version for $629.99. The smartphone can now be purchased from Sony’s U.S. website. The Sony Xperia Z touts a 5-inch full HD display, 1.5GHz quadcore processor with 2GB of RAM, a 13 megapixel camera, 16GB of internal storage and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Sony has fashioned this phone out of impressive materials, more on its design and functionality in our detailed Xperia Z review.

The unlocked Sony Xperia Z will only be able to work with GSM networks, which means that this smartphone will be compatible with AT&T and possibility T=Mobile. It is believed that the device shouldn’t have any problems connecting with LTE networks of these carriers. At this point in time no U.S.based carrier has officially announced that they will be carrying the Xperia Z, and offering it at a subsidized price with a two year contract. That is expected to happen sometime this summer.

Motorola Droid RAZR and RAZR Maxx get updated to Android 4.1

Motorola Droid RAZR and RAZR Maxx get updated to Android 41

Today is the day for Jelly Bean updates on older carrier-branded devices, apparently. In this round, it’s the Verizon-branded Motorola Droid RAZR and RAZR Maxx that have the honor of being bestowed with Google Now, expanded notifications and the rest of everything Android 4.1 has to offer. The rollout will take place in phases, so don’t be terribly concerned if you don’t see the update showing up on your device right away. We haven’t had the chance to play with it yet, but soak tests seemed to indicate that much of the Droid-related bloatware has been removed in favor of several stock Google apps; if you get the update, let us know in the comments if this is the case.
