As MWC draws near, it’s not surprising to see an increase in leaks, and today we bring you a few more pictures of Huawei’s Ascend P2, which recently made a cameo in some unofficial product shots. The 4.7-inch full HD handset is expected to feature Android 4.1.2, a quad-core 1.8 GHz processor (developed in house), 2GB of RAM, 8GB of built-in storage (plus microSD), a 13MP shooter and a 2200mAh battery. Slotting below the 5-inch Ascend D2 and 6.1-inch Ascend Mate we saw at CES, the Ascend P2 is rumored to be less than 6.45mm thick with Nexus 4-like on-screen buttons. Of course, since the FCC is unlikely to certify such a svelte device, it’s likely we’ll see a tweaked version of this phone if it ever makes it to the US — then again, it looks thicker to us in the pictures. Pricing is supposedly targeting the 3,000 Yuan mark ($480), unsubsidized. Guess we’ll find out more in Barcelona, right? Hit the break for a couple more images.

Folks in Asia, Indonesia and Vietnam to be exact, are apparently going to sign off 2012 on a high note. This is because the Samsung Galaxy S3 mini (which will not be sold in the US, by the way, in order to be dropped from the lawsuit that was filed and will go on trial in 2014 by Apple) has reportedly shipped with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean right out of the box.
In fact, it was as recent as last month when the little smartphone that could came with Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean on board, so to hear that it has arrived with this new version is definitely nothing short of encouraging. In fact, Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean is proud to come with its Premium Suite, where a bunch of new features such as Page Buddy, Multi Window, Paper Artist, Group Cast, Smart Rotation, a new customizable notification panel, and a new gallery app are thrown into the mix. What do you think of this development – will you import a Galaxy S3 mini?

Nubia Z5 unveiled in China with quad-core chip, 5-inch 1080p display and 7.6mm thickness
Posted in: Today's ChiliMuch like many Chinese smartphone brands these days, ZTE sub-brand Nubia had prematurely given away the main selling points of its Z5 ahead of its Beijing launch today, but there were still some surprises. As you probably already know, here’s yet another five-inch 1080p Android phone featuring Qualcomm’s 1.5GHz quad-core APQ8064, 2GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage, along with a 13-megapixel F2.2 main camera (with five-element optics by Konica Minolta, plus separate touch focus and touch exposure in the app) and a two-megapixel front-facing camera. For multimedia consumption, the Z5 supports WiFi Display and MHL output should you wish to beam content to a larger screen; whereas on the audio side you are spoiled with either Yamaha or Dolby Digital Plus. But wait, there’s more!

Sony Xperia TL caught on video showing off Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean features
Posted in: Today's ChiliAs we’re sure Xperia owners are aware by now, the official Android Jelly Bean updates for your devices are scheduled for a February 2013 release, which given that it’s almost the end of the year, isn’t that long of a wait. Now the good news is that if you were wondering what sort of goodies you might be able to expect once you get the update, a video by SonyViet has been uploaded online in which the features of Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean can be seen running on the Xperia TL handset, giving us a glimpse of what we might be able to expect in the new year. Some of these new features include a new home screen launcher, new wallpapers, new Album and Movie apps, and a ClearAudio+ feature which apparently will help with boosting audio quality, which also happens to be a feature in the upcoming Xperia V. The video itself is in Vietnamese so unless you speak and understand the language, hopefully the images in the video itself will be enough to give you an idea.

South Korea, the birth place of the Samsung Galaxy S3, has something special for all Galaxy S3 units in that part of the world. Basically, if you happen to own the Galaxy S3 which carry the model numbers SHW-M440S, SHV-E210S, SHV-E210K and SHV-E210L, you will then be able to obtain the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update for the smartphone via KIES or OTA (Over The Air). Just what kind of enhancements can you expect from this spanking new operating system update?
For starters, you will be able to enjoy the Multi-View feature, otherwise known as Multi-Windows Multitasking on the Galaxy Note 2, in addition to Page Buddy, a new Gallery App, a customizable Notification Panel, a Brightness Slider, Smart Rotation, as well as apps like Paper Artist and Group Cast. Does this mean that the other Galaxy S3 owners worldwide can look forward to the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update eventually?

Nexus 4 priced at £390 by purported Carphone Warehouse in-store display placard
Posted in: Today's ChiliOh, Carphone Warehouse — it just can’t seem to keep what it knows about the LG / Google Nexus 4 under lock and key. Just days after briefly listing the phone on its website, purported in-store displays for the yet unannounced device have leaked out to Android Authority. While essentially of the details are the same as what we saw last (1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 SoC, 8MP cam, 12-hour talk time rating, etc.), the listing reveals that the “sim-free” phone itself will sell for £390 (about $504) — previously we’d only seen the per-month pricing at £31, which is also found here. There’s no mention of that October 30th sale date this time, and it would seem unlikely now given that Google’s had to indefinitely postpone its NYC-based Android event for the 29th due to hurricane Sandy. For now, you can get more details from the source link below.

Whoa there! The next Nexus just got an early reveal over at UK retailer Carphone Warehouse. Delivery is currently pegged for October 30th and apparently it’s got brand new Android 4.2 (or Android 4.1.2 — the listing mixes in both). The preorder screen confirms plenty of details we’ve already heard, including that 4.7-inch 1,280 x 768 display, Snapdragon S4 processor and 8-megapixel camera. Unfortunately, at least according to the phone seller, there’s only 8GB of storage and no microSD card slot. Other curious parts include a “360-degree camera”, whatever that is, and an on-screen render that’s been previously been identified as a custom ROM. Diving into the supposed feature list, we’re intrigued to see whether “gesture typing” will form a part of Google’s new Android build — the Carphone Warehouse compares it to Swype‘s finger-dragging input method.
Price-wise, it looks like you could get the handset for free on contracts over £31 per month, with both O2 and Vodafone named as prospective networks for the device in the UK — but no news here on whether the 4G-capable EE will offer an LTE iteration. Excited? Good, because we’re going to hear plenty more on this next week.
Update: And the page has been pulled. Hopefully, to iron out some of those suspect features…

When Android 4.1.2 hit the airwaves for upgrades, it was limited to a very exclusive club of Nexus 7 owners. Google has widened the gates considerably as of today: we’re receiving multiple reports of GSM-based Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S owners getting the new Jelly Bean build through official, over-the-air channels. Upgrades here aren’t as noticeable as they are on the reference Android tablet; besides fixes, we’ve mostly heard that it’s now possible to expand a notification with a single finger. Those with CDMA-based phones are left out so far, but if you discover any surprise extras before 4.1.2 hits our own devices, be sure to leave us a tip.
