HTC One Android 4.2.2 update adds UI features, sticks with Sense 5.0

HTC One Android 422 update adds UI features, sticks with Sense 50

If you’ve already got an HTC One, news of a Sense-free version will have been interesting for the presence of Android 4.2.2, as much as anything else. While we can’t tell you when your handset will get updated, we can tell you that it’ll bring with it some useful additions. A popular one will be the percentage battery level indicator that you see above. There’s also extended quick settings, a long-press-for-menu on the home button, Android Daydream, and some changes to the app drawer (remove icons from the dock etc.). So that’s the what, we’re just waiting for the when.

How Android’s Multitasking Experience Could Be Even Better

Lately I’ve been thinking about the multitasking experience on Android and I feel like there’s still a lot to improve. I love how the thumbnails come up, but in 4.2.2 they made it so that the current app joined the list of “Recent Apps”. This looks great on phones and small-sized tablets, but it looks really bad on large tablets (ie. Nexus 10) in landscape mode. Here’s how to make it better. More »

Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean Update Announced For Verizon Galaxy Nexus

Good news today for Verizon Galaxy Nexus owners. Verizon has announced that it will be rolling out Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update for its Galaxy Nexus. Android 4.2.2 has a number of new features. The camera app has been greatly improved and allows improved customization of pictures. Users can take beautiful 360 degree panoramas with Photosphere. Samsung Galaxy S3 and Note 2 To Get Android 5.0? [Rumor]

Samsung Galaxy S3 and Note 2 To Get Android 5.0? [Rumor]

A pre-list reportedly obtained from Samsung reveals that the Galaxy S3 and the Galaxy Note 2 will get the Android 5.0 update when it is released in the coming months. Android 5.0 or Key Lime Pie is yet to be announced, though its quite obvious that not a lot of older devices will be compatible with it. If this list turns out to be correct then only five Samsung devices will be updated to Android 5.0. These five devices include Galaxy S3, Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 2, Note 8.0 and Note 10.1.

The list also reveals that Galaxy S2 and the original Galaxy Note will received Android 4.2.2 update, though it is going to be the last update they ever get. Apart from these two devices, there are around fifteen other devices that won’t receive any updates after version 4.2.2. These include the following:

  • Galaxy Grand
  • Galaxy Grand DUOS
  • Galaxy Ace 2
  • Galaxy S III mini
  • Galaxy Beam
  • Galaxy Express
  • Galaxy S Advance
  • Galaxy S II
  • Galaxy S II Plus
  • Galaxy Premier
  • Galaxy Note
  • Galaxy Young
  • Galaxy Young DUOS
  • Galaxy Fame
  • Galaxy X Cover 2

The mid-range Android devices that Samsung released last year and in Q1 2013 will receive a value pack update, this according to the same source. This list is obviously not confirmed by the Korean manufacturer, and it remains to be seen what the final list turns out to be.

List Of Samsung Devices Rumored To Receive Android 4.2.2 And Android 5.0 Updates

List Of Samsung Devices Rumored To Receive Android 4.2.2 And Android 5.0 UpdatesWhen a new version of Android is pushed out, the question many Android users are probably asking is when will they get it? This wait time will depend on a few factors, such as how long it takes for their manufacturer to push it to their phones, and if you’re living in the US and you’re tied to a carrier contract, you will have to wait for the update to go through your carrier first before pushed onto your device. In any case if you own a Samsung smartphone or tablet, the folks at SamMobile claim to have gotten a list of Samsung devices that will see updates to Android 4.2.2, as well as which devices are planned to receive the Android 5.0 update.

It should be noted that the devices getting the Android 4.2.2 update will probably see this update as the last one that they will be getting. Also since Google has yet to officially announce the next-generation of Android, it might be a bit premature to refer to it as Android 5.0, but that will be the placeholder for now until Google I/O where hopefully an announcement will be made. In any case if you own a Samsung device, check the list after the break to see if you’re smartphone/tablet will be getting the update. We can’t tell if this list is true or when the updates will be pushed out, so don’t get your hopes up just yet. (more…)

Android 4.2.2 Factory Image For Nexus 4, Nexus 7, Nexus 10 And Galaxy Nexus Released

Android 4.2.2 Factory Image For Nexus 4, Nexus 7, Nexus 10 And Galaxy Nexus ReleasedDo you happen to be a proud owner of the Nexus 4, Nexus 7, Nexus 10 or Galaxy Nexus, where the latter two hail from Samsung, while the Nexus 4 is from LG and the Nexus 7 was forged in the fires of Mount Asus. Well, if you have answered in the affirmative, you would have known that Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean has started to roll out to those devices for a few days already, and assuming you have yet to receive your OTA (Over The Air) notification to do so for Android 4.2.2, fret not – the factory image is now available for download.

Huh? Factory image, you say? What’s that in plain English again? Basically, the Android 4.2.2 factory image is a clean copy of the mobile operating system, allowing your device to work perfectly fine should your operating system end up corrupted by your own curious doing (or through a wayward and malicious app). Having said that, you might want to stash away the Android 4.2.2 in a safe place somewhere just in case things go awry later on.

Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean On The Way

Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean On The WayAt last, we are one step closer to Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie, with word that there is a new Jelly Bean version in the pipeline, namely the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update. In fact, it was just last week when Google employees were said to be testing out Android 4.2.2 which contains far more than just simple enhancements and bug fixes. There was reliable inside information to point out that Google employees who owned Nexus devices, where these include the Nexus 4, Nexus 7 and the Nexus 10, in addition to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, were all able to give Android 4.2.2 a test run, where it was more than welcome to try out popular apps.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus that you see on the right runs on Android 4.2.2, and so far it is said that there has been no drastic changes made to the operating system and user interface, with minimal alterations done to security and bugs. Will Android 4.2.2 be the last of the Jelly Bean updates before Google will finally roll out Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie to the masses?
