CyanogenMod Accounts Takes After Android Device Manager

CyanogenMod Accounts Takes After Android Device ManagerWe did talk about the Android Device Manager as recently as early this month, and it seems that the CyanogenMod team does not want to be left behind, having introduced a whole new online service which is capable of letting you know just where your missing smartphone is (whether lost or stolen, that is another story to tell), wipe away sensitive information of it remotely, as well as perform other kinds of actions. It is not the first service of its kind in the market, and we are quite sure that it won’t be the last, either.

However, the CyanogenMod team prides themselves in touting that this particular solution is a whole lot more secure, and considering how the code is open source, users are more than welcome to check out the code and see how everything works, including whether there are any kinds of security and privacy vulnerabilities to look into. All data will be encrypted, and fret not, the CyanogenMod team has no intention of selling your data to make a quick buck. Are you especially excited at what the CyanogenMod team has in store with the CyanogenMod Account service? We cannot wait to see it kick off and read feedback about it from users.

Find Your Android Phone With Device Manager

Find Your Android Phone With Device Manager

Last week Google announced Android Device Manager, a new service for Android users that helps them track down their missing or lost smartphone. Google certainly took its time, considering that Apple’s Find My iPhone service has been around for quite some time, which essentially offers the same functionality. Other Android manufacturers offer similar service restricted to their own devices, take Sony for example, which recently announced its myXperia security service. Following the announcement last week, it appears that Android Device Manage release is currently underway.

Android Device Manager is actually a website which locates a lost smartphone on a map. Users also have the option to send a command to their smartphone to make it ring, the service doesn’t support sending a message to the device just yet, perhaps Google will add this feature in the future. The crux here is definitely security and if there are no chances of a device being found, users will find solace in the fact that they will be able to remotely wipe all data through Android Device Manager. The service works with any Android device that’s running version 2.2 or higher.

PSA: Android Device Manager now rolling out to a handset near you

That new Android Device Manager feature Google announced last week? It’s live now, according to numerous tipsters (and several of our own Android-sporting editors). For the time being, the functionality seems to only be present on handsets, arriving via an over the air update. The new feature lets you ring your phone at maximum volume even when silenced, locate the device on a Google Map and wipe it clean, should the other two options not pan out.

Android Device Manager Helps Track Down Your Missing Handset

Android Device Manager Helps Track Down Your Missing HandsetIn this day and age, to have your phone stolen is quite a common occurrence – after all, high end handsets to fetch a handsome price in the secondary market, and these phones do cost quite a pretty penny in the first place. Of course, there are also moments when you left your brain at the door and misplaced your handset, which is a bummer. Apple has their “Find my iPhone” service that has yielded its fair share of surprises during use over the years, and Google seemed to have “finally” caught up in this aspect – by introducing the Android Device Manager.

The Android Device Manager is a new service for Android-powered smartphone owners to help them track down a lost or missing handset. How does it do this? Android Device Manager happens to be a website which would allow you to locate your missing phone on a map, or have it send a command to your smartphone in order to make it ring so that you can hear whether it happens to be tucked away under the sofa’s cushions or what not. Other than that, there is a remote data wipe feature as an additional security measure. Expect Android Device Manager to roll out later in August, where it will play nice with devices running on Android 2.2 or newer.

Google intros Android Device Manager to help you find that missing handset

Frequently lose your phone? Yeah, join the club. Don’t worry, Google’s got a fix. Android Device Manager will be available later this month for phones with 2.2 or later, letting you ring your phone at maximum volume when you can’t find it, even if the handset has been silenced. Should that fail, you can also locate the thing on a Google Map in real-time — and there’s also a plan C. When you’re all out of other options, you can securely erase all of your data from afar, so your Angry Birds scores don’t wind up in the wrong hands.
