Nexus 10 now available in Japan Play Store

While the Nexus 10 tablet from Google and Samsung has been available for a little while now to some buyers, it hasn’t been available in Japan thus far. The smaller Nexus 7 also had a delayed launch in Japan, something frustrating to those who wanted Google’s slate. That ends today, with customers in Japan now available to get the tablet from the Japan Play Store.

Until today, users in Japan who wanted a Nexus tablet were forced to buy from overseas, dealing with region and language issues. The tablet was originally slated for release in the country back in the last quarter of 2012, but that ended up not happening. The wait has finally ended, and both the 16GB and the 32GB versions of the slate are in stock.

The 16GB Nexus 7 model is priced at ¥36,800, which is a tad under $400 USD, while the 32Gb version is priced at ¥44,800, which is $480 USD. As with the US Google Play store, the Japan Play Store lists “shipping soon.” The slate runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, and has a wide array of high-end specs, making an excellent tablet choice for those in the market for a slate.

For those who don’t know, the Nexus 10 features a 10-inch Corning Gorilla Glass 2 display with a high resolution of 2560 x 1600. Inside you’ll find a Exynos 5 Dual and Mali-T604 GPU, as well as 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. There’s a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 1.9-megapixel front camera.

Archos’ New Android Tablet is the Same Size as the iPad Mini

French mobile computer maker Archos announced a new tablet today, and it seems like a low end-affair, sporting Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, a dual-core processor of unknown origin, and 8GB of expandable storage. But what may be the most interesting part is that the Archos 80 Cobalt features a 8-inch (7.85-inch panel), 1024×768 pixel display, which, hey, is larger and lower resolution than either the Nexus 7 or the Kindle Fire HD. Sound familiar? It’s the same size and resolution as Apple’s new iPad Mini screen.  (more…)

Archos adds the 80 Cobalt to its ICS tablet range: 8-inch screen, dual-core 1.6GHz CPU and 1GB of RAM

The FCC may have spoiled the surprise months ago, but Archos has taken to Facebook to officially reveal the new member of its Elements range — the Archos 80 Cobalt. As you may have guessed from the familiar size codification, the WiFi-only slate sports an 8-inch capacitive screen filled with 1024 x 768 pixels, supporting 1080p video playback. The other specs you’ll want to know include the dual-core processor running at 1.6GHz, 1GB of RAM and 8 gigs of on-board storage, expandable with a microSD card of up to 64GB. Modest 2-megapixel and 0.3-megapixel shooters occupy the back and front of the 0.48-inch (12mm) thick tablet, respectively, which weighs in at a solid one pound (470g). There’s no word on a release date or pricing for this ICS device, but we’d imagine the answers are “soon” and “under $200.” Any more than that, and we can’t see people choosing it over, say, a Nexus 7, even if it does have an extra inch on the competition.
