Droid RAZR pre-orders go live on Verizon tomorrow, ships to Blur fans before November 10th (updated)

Who said there’s no such thing as a second chance? After resurrecting the RAZR brand just last week with Motorola’s newly minted Droid member, Verizon’s now gearing up for a pre-order deluge on the 27th. That’s right, starting tomorrow morning at 8AM EST, Big Red’s dual-core 4G LTE handset’ll ship out to eager subs who plunk down the $299 on contract price before November 10th. If you’re not the early bird type, you’ll have to sit tight a wee bit longer as plans for an in-store launch have yet to be announced. Of course, you could always hold out for that eventual Galaxy Nexus to make its first place carrier debut, or even cross your toes for a Nokia Lumia 800 (one can hope, right?). Whatever your preference, this holiday season’s sure turning out to be a cornucopia of high-end mobile options. Check out the official presser after the break.

Update: Droid Life got a hold of an internal Verizon screen that pegs the Droid RAZR’s off contract price at $650. Still no word on an actual retail date for the device, but we’re sure that’s right around the corner.

LG DoublePlay likely to see single release for T-Mobile on October 26th

What phone has a second screen and split keyboard and is likely to make its debut on October 26th? Why yes, it’s the LG DoublePlay, one of T-Mobile’s latest oddballs. Of course, this is just a screenshot that likely indicates a release later this week (with retail outlets receiving units on November 2nd), so we can’t say with an absolute certainty — though this date would coincide perfectly with the beginning of the National Texting Championship. No word yet on its pricing, and its unique form factor and functionality keeps us from taking any wild guesses. Hopefully we’ll know in less than 48 hours.

ViewSonic rolls out $200 ViewPad 7e Android tablet

We’ve already seen it available for pre-order at Amazon and spent a bit of time with it ourselves last month, but ViewSonic’s only just now officially getting its ViewPad 7e Android tablet out the door. It’ll be available by the end of the month if it hasn’t hit retailers already and, as expected, it will set you back an even $200. That unfortunately only buys you Android 2.3 (with an SPB shell on top) and not Honeycomb, but the specs are otherwise somewhat decent for the price, including a 1GHz ARM A8 processor, dual cameras, a “RiteTouch” 7-inch capacitive display, 4GB of storage with a microSD card slot for expansion, and HDMI output. As is often the case with low-end tablets, however, one key omission is official support for the Android Market, but you do at least get access to Amazon’s Appstore, as well as plenty of pre-loaded apps including Twitter, Kindle, and TuneIn Radio.

Samsung Transform Ultra does the QWERTY slide for Sprint

What big, wireless brother wants, big, wireless brother gets. With its pay-as-you-go subsidiary already packing this particular piece of mobile kit, ’twas only a matter of time before Sprint got its hands on the Transform Ultra. Officially announced for the third place carrier today, Sammy’s Droid Charge with a QWERTY twist packs the usual array of mid-range specs. The 3.5-incher runs Android 2.3 atop a single-core 1GHz processor, with a VGA front facing / 3 megapixel rear camera, 512MB RAM, 2GB of storage and 1500mAh battery in tow. It’s no next gen, 4G beastie, but sometimes you just need a workhorse to get things done. Pricing and availability have yet to be released, although we’re sure that bit of crucial info’s right around the corner. Official presser awaits you after the break.

LG Optimus Eye: LTE smartphone renamed with a view to landing in Canada

LG’s biggest, fastest phone to date, previously known as the Optimus LTE, has made its first landing outside of Korea. In a not-so-thinly-veiled reference to the retina display-beating resolution density, it’s now answering to the name, Optimus Eye. The smartphone’s been leaked in a preview video from The Source, a Canadian retailer which is owned by Bell — who’ll evidently be making the phone available on their network. We also get to see LG’s latest AH-IPS display technology in action, alongside a dual-core 1.5GHz processor and the increasingly standard eight megapixel shooter. No whisperings just yet on pricing or a launch date, but we’d expect these top-drawer specifications to be matched with an appropriately top-drawer price tag when it does arrive. Coby Kyros MID7012 tablet gets an FCC teardown, flaunts a roomy case

Coby’s latest in budget slates hit the federal testing tables on Friday, getting the customary teardown and tell-all photo shoot. The Coby Kyros MID7012 comfortably fits a 800Mhz processor, 256MB of RAM, 4GB of internal memory, WiFi and a microSD card slot into its case. The seven-inch Gingerbread tablet hasn’t landed on Coby’s US website yet, but nimble fingered Googlers can find the slab for about $100.

Boost Mobile announces ZTE Warp, hopes to push its lineup out of impulse on November 2nd for $250

After Tuesday’s Ice Cream Sandwich announcement in Hong Kong, pushing out a Gingerbread device just doesn’t feel like we’re leaping to the final frontier, but it’s still nice to have on a prepaid plan nonetheless. We’re talking about the ZTE Warp, announced as Boost Mobile’s latest no-contract Android phone, which sports a 4.3-inch display, 1GHz single-core CPU, and a 5MP rear camera with LED flash. Google Wallet goes to the Garden State, NJ Transit riders get ‘tap and pay’ privileges

The perks of Google’s Nexus S used to lie solely in its unadorned OS. Now, owners of its penultimate Android flagship are about to get some additional mileage out of their Gingerbread-bearing handsets, courtesy of that underused NFC chip. The recently awakened near field communication feature’s already been put to public task by Google Wallet and participating merchants, and will now add NJ Transit to its list of contactless payment partners. Select locations throughout the Garden State’s transportation network, including Penn Station and Newark Airport’s AirTrain, will let owners of Sprint’s Nexus S 4G tap-to-pay for tickets at windows and vending machines. Unfortunately, the mobile payment system won’t replace your need for an actual physical ticket or monthly pass just yet, and requires you opt-in with either Citi Mastercard or Visa. Still, it’s a definite boon for rushed commuters who’ll no longer have to juggle their bags, bagels, coffee and phones in an effort to buy a ticket and make it to work on time. Not yet enabled via NFC? Tap-to-erase-spray tans, but that’s coming in the Galaxy Nexus, right?

Motorola Admiral to directly connect with Sprint on October 23rd for $100

We all knew it was coming, it was just a matter of time — that, of course, is the Motorola Admiral that Sprint sure had a difficult time keeping a secret. But no matter now, as the fleet captain is ready to hook you up with the Now Network’s CDMA-based Direct Connect service online starting October 23rd (November 13th for all sales channels) for $100 on a two-year commitment and after a $50 mail-in rebate. Summing up the specs: the Admiral features a 1.2GHz CPU, 5MP rear camera with 720p HD video capture, rugged 810G mil-spec design, 3G Mobile Hotspot for up to five devices at the same time, a 3.1-inch VGA display and Android 2.3. Kobo quietly launches Vox Android tablet with 7-inch display, Gingerbread, $200 price tag

Canadian retailer Future Shop gave us an accidental sneak peek at the tablet last month, but now Kobo is making Vox official, complete with a 7-inch 1024 x 600 resolution AFFS+ display with multi-touch, a 7-hour battery and 8 gigs of internal memory with support for up to 32GB of SD storage. The $200 tablet is running Android 2.3 Gingerbread, and is powered by an 800 MHz processor and 512MB of RAM. There’s also a built-in speaker and 3.5mm headphone jack, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi and a variety of pre-loaded apps (naturally you’ll have access to Android Market as well). Vox is listed as in-stock on Kobo’s online store, though you’ll have to wait until October 28th for yours to ship. It’ll also be available at Best Buy and Fry’s Electronics stores in the U.S., and Best Buy, Future Shop and Indigo in Canada. Jump past the break for the PR from Kobo.
