Samsung confirms multi-window feature and Jelly Bean update for original Galaxy Note

Samsung confirms multiwindow feature and Jelly Bean update for original Galaxy Note

That previously-spotted Premium Suite upgrade for the Galaxy Note is on its way, with Samsung revealing all the details on its site. With a refreshed UI appears very similar to its successor, the respectable Android slab will also lay claim to Air View, Multi-window apps and the addictive easy clip function that allows you to crop and share images and text with the stylus. Thanks to that Jelly Bean update, owners of Samsung’s original phablet can also start dabbling with Google Now, which will continue to pluck information from your search history, location and timezone. There’s no word yet on when the refreshed Premium suite will find its way onto devices anywhere, but with Samsung already singing the update’s praises, it shouldn’t be far away.

ASUS PadFone 2 Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update starts arriving over the air

ASUS PadFone 2 Android 41 Jelly Bean update starts arriving over the air

Maybe it was the gadget-in-a-gadget thing, or just that fact that it was a good ‘ole “twofer.” Either way, when the PadFone 2 from ASUS landed in our hands a few weeks back, we were pretty smitten. Now, the deal just got better thanks to the arrival of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean for the “fone” part of that combo. While the proprietary skin remains the same, you can now enjoy all the new perks that 4.1 brings along. The update is being sent out over the air right now, so be sure to point your phone / tablet at the system update screen to make sure you get the goods. Now, ASUS, we just need you to roll out that keyboard add-on we wanted…

[Thanks, Quan Truong]

Jelly Bean now available for Samsung Galaxy S III on AT&T via Kies

Android 41 now available for AT&T's Samsung Galaxy S III over Kies

Good news tonight for AT&T subscribers, as a number of readers are now reporting that Samsung’s update to Android 4.1.1 is now available for the Galaxy S III via Kies. We’ve reached out to the carrier to learn whether any specific improvements are in store, but it’s not like we need to tell you that users will be immersed in the goodies of Google Now and the performance enhancements from Project Butter. Word from members of xda-developers reveals that the update weighs in at a substantial 738MB. For those keeping score, AT&T’s update to Jelly Bean for the Galaxy S III follows previous deployments from Sprint and T-Mobile. With the latest outpouring of love from Ma Bell, this puts all eyes squarely on Verizon Wireless. If you’re able to snag the update for yourself, be sure to toss your impressions into the comment section — more timid users will surely appreciate it.

Meizu MX2 packs 1.6GHz quad-core chip, 4.4-inch display and Jelly Bean, due mid-December

Meizu MX2 packs 16GHz quadcore chip, 44inch display and Jelly Bean, due midDecember

Amidst the fierce competition in the Chinese mobile market, Meizu has managed to keep up with its annual cycle to unveil its latest flagship device, the MX2. Announced at the launch event in Beijing earlier today, the MX2 comes with a Samsung-made 1.6GHz, Cortex-A9 quad-core SoC dubbed “MX5S,” along with 2GB of RAM, a 30-percent faster GPU, a 4.4-inch 347ppi (1,280 x 800) gapless display with 3.15mm bezel and efficient “New Mode 2” technology (the description of which sounds like IGZO to us), an improved eight-megapixel BSI F/2.4 camera and a choice of 16GB, 32GB or 64GB of built-in memory. There’s also a front-facing camera, dual-mic noise cancellation, MHL video output, S/PDIF audio output, a non-removable 1,800mAh battery, Bluetooth 4.0 and HSPA+ radio at 2,100MHz (2G at 900/1800). As before, the white double injection-molded back cover can be taken off to access the SIM card slot, but there should also be various color options in the near future. Read on for more info, and do also check out the official introduction video after the break.

Update: We now have some hands-on photos courtesy of Stone Ip from Engadget Chinese. They’re in the second gallery below.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 to receive Android 4.1 with Premium Suite (video)

Samsung teases Android 41 with Premium Suite for Galaxy Note 101

Samsung has already begun delivery of Android 4.1 for the Galaxy Note 10.1 in some parts of the world, but in a move that’ll no doubt add to the anticipation, the company has now revealed Premium Suite as an accompaniment to the OS upgrade. Along with Jelly Bean, users can expect greater Multi Window functionality, which brings the ability to open up to 16 apps at a time, each which can be moved, resized and pinned to remain on top. Samsung’s Air View is also incorporated within Premium Suite, which allows users to preview appointments, emails, video and the like by hovering the S Pen above the screen. Not to stop there, Samsung is also upping the ante with new additions such as Easy Clip, Quick Command, Photo Note, Paper Artist and an enhanced S Note app. No definitive timeline is known for Samsung’s rollout of Premium Suite and Android 4.1, although it’s now clear that “soon” can’t come quickly enough. In the meantime, be sure to hop the break to preview all the new features that are on deck.

HTC requires more than 512MB of RAM for Jelly Bean updates, One V and Desire C to stay on ICS

HTC requires more than 512MB of RAM for Jelly Bean updates, One V and Desire C to stay on ICS

HTC’s reassured us in a freshly updated FAQ that the One X and One S will continue seeing Jelly Bean updates as soon as carrier testing is finished, and it’s also given us some insight into how it decides which smartphones will get the Android 4.1 treatment. The word is mum on exactly which other phones will be graced with the flavor of Android in question and Sense 4+, but the firm is reviewing its 2012 handsets to determine which are eligible. Two phones that didn’t make the cut are the One V and Desire C, since HTC generally requires devices to pack more than 512MB of RAM in order to receive Jelly Bean. As for smartphones released in 2011, they’ll also be considered once this year’s hardware is evaluated. Chou and Co. also noted that they plan to post “generic development ROMs” of Jelly Bean for the One X and One S to its developer website as soon as they’re fully baked. For the full lowdown, hit the source link below.

Jelly Bean update starts rolling out to Verizon’s Droid RAZR M

Verizon starts rolling out Android Jelly Bean update to Droid RAZR M

We know not all Motorola handsets will be lucky enough to be on the receiving end of Mountain View’s Jelly Bean OS, but the Droid RAZR M, on the other hand, is now being prepped to get a taste of Android 4.1. According to Verizon, the 4.3-inch, Kevlar-sporting device can now be added to the growing list of devices running Jelly Bean, with the carrier noting that the fresh update will officially start rolling out to customers today “in phases.” Meanwhile, Big Red also says an option to download the upgrade manually is coming, though that alternative won’t be available until later next week. Regardless, proud RAZR M owners can expect a slew of under-the-hood improvements, new features such as Google Now and compatibility with ISIS Mobile Wallet (where the NFC-based payment system’s live, of course). Are you seeing the Jelly Bean goods on your Droid now? Do let us know in the comments below.

Android 4.1 update for original Galaxy Note may bring Air View, Multi-Window and more (video)

Android 41 update for original Galaxy Note may bring Nature UX, Air View and more

If fortune smiles upon original Galaxy Note owners, there’s a good chance of finding an Android 4.1 update before year’s end. Rather than just the usual suspects like Google Now, however, a recently leaked software build suggests that Samsung’s original smartphone / tablet may receive some of the same features as the current Galaxy Note II. We’ve embedded a video after the break that reveals what could be in store, which includes the Nature UX, the ability to watch video previews with the S Pen (Air View) and the ability to view two apps at once (Multi-Window). Whether the features make it to the final build is anyone’s guess, though we’re certainly crossing our fingers. In the meantime, feel free to hop the break to see what’s in store — sorry that it’s in French.
