Angry Birds Star Wars To Debut On Next-Gen Consoles

Angry Birds Star Wars To Debut On Next Gen ConsolesRovio’s Angry Birds franchise debuted as a mobile game, although the game has since moved onto other platforms, such as for consoles and the PC. Well if you were planning on picking up a next-gen console like the Xbox One or PlayStation 4 for yourself, you might be interested to learn that Rovio will be releasing Angry Birds Star Wars (the first installment) for next-gen consoles in November which is also around the time where both consoles will be seeing their initial release. However for current-gen console gamers of the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3, PS VIta, Nintendo Wii, Wii U, and 3DS, the game is available starting from today.

For next-gen consoles, Angry Birds Star Wars will be taking advantage of several of the console’s features. The PlayStation 4 version of the game will rely on the DualShock 4’s touchpad, and will support the Move in single player and local multiplayer modes. As for the Xbox One, the game will feature exclusive timed challenges and will also play nicely with the new Kinect sensor that will be bundled together with the console. We’re not sure if these are the types of titles next-gen console gamers are looking forward to, but we guess it’s still an option for those who want to play a quick game or two.

Angry Birds Star Wars Multiplayer Mode Shown Off In Video

If you enjoyed Rovio’s Angry Birds Star Wars, you might be interested to learn that the game will be getting a new multiplayer mode which was announced and shown off during Gamescom. The new multiplayer mode will support two to four players, along with a two-player co-op mode. While I’m not that much of a fan of the Angry Birds franchise, this multiplayer mode certainly looks like a lot of fun and something worth checking out. The game is also expected to make its debut on consoles later this year for the PlayStation 4, the PlayStation Vita, the Xbox 360, the Wii, the Wii U, and the Nintendo 3DS. It will see a release on the 29th of October for US markets, and the rest of the world can expect to get it on their consoles on the 1st of November. In any case if you’d like to see what the multiplayer mode would be like, check it out in the video above for the details!

Hands-on with Angry Birds Star Wars 2 and Hasbro’s Telepods (video)

dnp Handson with Angry Birds Star Wars 2 and Hasbro's telepods video

Rovio recently announced a sequel to its Angry Birds Star Wars game, and the Finnish company was on hand to demo its latest title here at Comic-Con. Coming to Android and iOS on September 19th (and to consoles a month later), the app features more than 30 playable characters and — most notably — works with Hasbro-designed “Telepods.” If you’ve heard of Skylanders — not to mention Hasbro’s zAPPed line of add-ons for iPad games — the concept will be quite familiar: the Angry Birds Star Wars 2 Telepods give players access to additional characters and superpowers.

To get started with the Telepod figures, we simply had to place them (attached to their plastic stand) over the demo iPad’s camera. The tablet recognized the characters in just a second or two, and then we were able to play with new birds and their associated abilities (hint: more explosions). Rovio’s VP of marketing Philip Hickey says the Telepod collaboration with Hasbro allowed the company to make even Jar Jar Binks’ character interesting — and we have to admit, that’s quite an accomplishment. The Telepods will be available in stores for about $20 shortly before game launches in September.

The live-action telepods may be the upcoming title’s most novel feature, but that doesn’t mean the game doesn’t have several software-based goodies as well. You can choose to play on the dark side (“on the pork side,” as it were), and there are new two-player cooperative and two-to-four-player multiplayer modes. Be sure to check out our video hands-on after the break to see the sci-fi birds in action.

Angry Birds Star Wars Available For Blackberry 10

Angry Birds Star Wars 602x255 Angry Birds Star Wars Available For Blackberry 10We know that RIM plans to have at least 70,000 apps at Blackberry 10’s launch which will be taking place in a few hours and while having a larger quantity of apps is one thing, it’s another to have quality apps. After all no one really cares for an app store full of subpar apps and hastily thrown together ones, right? While it remains to be seen as to which quality and big name apps will be making its way onto Blackberry 10, those planning to get their hands on a Blackberry 10 device might be interested to learn that Rovio has revealed that they will be supporting Blackberry 10 with the Angry Birds Star Wars game which is currently priced at $0.99 on Blackberry World.

Of course we’re not saying that customers will be flocking to Blackberry 10 just for Angry Birds Star Wars, but given that the Angry Birds franchise has to be one of the most popular mobile games since its launch, having it attached to Blackberry 10 is at the very least a good sign of quality, big name apps that we might be able to expect. Either way hopefully RIM will be announcing some of these big name apps at its event which will be taking place at 10AM ET, so check back with us then for the details!

Angry Birds Star Wars makes a landing, the Egg is strong in this one

Do you find it rather interesting that a game like Angry Birds have actually branched out to be such a phenomenally successful gaming franchise, so much so that I believe anything else that Rovio releases (which they did with Amazing Alex) will never be able to live up to the Angry Birds folklore and reputation. In fact, you can call Angry Birds as the Golden Goose of Rovio, and another golden egg has just been laid – this time around merging with yet another hugely successful movie franchise that was recently sold to Disney – Star Wars. What do you get when you put two and two together? Why, Angry Birds Star Wars, of course!

It should not be too difficult to find someone who is a fan of both Angry Birds and Star Wars, and you would be pleased to hear that Angry Birds Star Wars is now available for download over from the Windows Phone 8 Store. Basically, both Red Bird and Pink Bird have undergone an epic transformation in their timeless (and endless, at this point in time) battle against the Bad Piggies. Be prepared to go on an intergalactic adventure by grabbing your lightsaber, although it does make me wonder just how birds are able to grasp a lightsaber considering they lack the necessary digits to do so save for feathers.

You will be able to visit iconic Star Wars locations such as Tatooine, the Death Star and the beyond. After downloading the game, in can be installed right away.

For folks who are still running on Windows Phone 7.5, there might be hope for you just yet as there is a possibility of Angry Birds Star Wars arriving on that particular platform. The thing is, both Rovio and Nokia want to do everything in their power to ensure that the Angry Birds Star Wars experience on the older version of Windows Phone will not arrive gimped, making sure that some semblance of quality control has been put in as well. Keep your feathers crossed, folks!

Angry Birds Star Wars tops U.S. App Store in two and a half hours

Following the release of Rovio’s highly-anticipated Angry Birds Star Wars game yesterday, the Finnish video game developer is now proudly announcing that the game has soared to the number one spot in the U.S. App Store within 2.5 hours after the launch. Rovio says that the record has so far surpassed many of its previous records. Kudos to Rovio for creating the spectacular game. If you haven’t downloaded the game yet, just visit this page and select your platform – be it on PC, Mac, iOS, Windows Phone, or Android. I already downloaded the game this morning, and I would say that the gameplay is very very good.

Suddenly I’m inside this planet with the birds and the pigs. Rovio also did a good job with the characters. The red bird plays Luke Skywalker, the yellow bird as Han Solo, the black bird as Obi-Wan Kenobi, the big red bird as Chewbacca, the pink bird as Princess Leia, and R2-D2 and C-3PO portrayed as eggs. “It’s a banner day for us,” said Peter Vesterbacka, CMO of Rovio Entertainment. “This is our best Angry Birds game yet, and we’re excited for our fans to finally meet Luke, Leia, and the rest of the gang! But it’s more than just a game launch: we think fans are going to just love the new animated trailer and the Angry Birds Star Wars products, sure to be a big hit this holiday season.”
