Cat Has TIE Fighter Markings: The Empire Claws Back

This cat must be part of the Imperial fleet and he doesn’t even try to hide it. Either that or he is an a never ending war with that TIE Fighter on his fur. Maybe the Empire sends him out to act as a decoy to fool other animals and distract them.

This cat is owned by Ella McConnell, who must make spaceship and laser noises every time it walks by. I know I would. This cat needs to watch out for X-wing cats if he wants to avoid a fight. Maybe he could just face the other way and let it pass.

This is just more proof that God loves Star Wars. Not the prequels though. That is the devil’s work.

No More Woof Wants to Translate Dog Thoughts into English… Seriously

I’ve often wanted to know what my daughters dog was thinking when she spends an hour outside, comes inside and immediately drops a deuce on the rug. I’m convinced the dog is simply an asshole. Now, a company has a product that it is working on, that is apparently a serious product for them, called No More Woof.

The goal of the product is to translate animal thoughts to human language. If this product comes to be, maybe then I could figure out why the dog craps in the house, not the yard. The device looks like one of those thought-control gaming headsets that have been around for a while and uses EEG technology. The company stresses that product is not available to purchase and is only in working prototype stage now.

The project is on Indiegogo seeking to raise funds to bring No More Woof to market. A pledge of $65(USD) will get you a micro version of the device that can detect two to three thought patterns. The full size rig will be able to translate four or more thought patterns for $300. Delivery is expected in April 2014. Squirrel.

Giant Cat Couch Lets You Sit on Your Cat’s Lap

Any cat owner knows just how much cats love human laps. Now you can switch things up and sit on their lap for a change with this massive cat couch. This huge feline comes from Unfold, a design studio in Antwerp, Belgium and it is a cat lovers dream come true.

I call it a couch, but Unfold thinks of it as more of a sculpture. It is appropriately called Felix Domesticus. This is just one of five cat-themed elements of an art installation that the studio assembled in 2010. The 3.5-meter long cat takes up residence in an apartment’s master bedroom, while visitors to the exhibit can sit on it. I wonder what a small house cat would think about this?

Now if they only sold these things, we could all sit and lay on a giant cat, without getting fur all over our clothes.

Turtle Missing for 30 Years Found in Locked Storage Room – Alive!

When it comes to pets, most people stick with dogs and cats. Some folks out there want something a bit different like snakes or turtles. A family from Brazil had a pet turtle, but lost it many years ago. The people thought the turtle wandered out of the house when builders left the door open.

Not the actual turtle found, but a reasonable facsimile

30 years later the family was back at the home cleaning it out after the death of a family member. When they got into a locked storage building inside the home, they discovered the missing turtle living inside a box.

“I put the box on the pavement for the rubbish men to collect, and a neighbor said, ‘you’re not throwing out the turtle as well are you?’ ” the younger Almeida told Brazil’s Globo website. “I looked and saw her. At that moment, I turned white, I just couldn’t believe what I was seeing.”

The turtle was found living in a cardboard box. Veterinarians say that red-footed tortoise such as this can live two to three years without eating. However, 30 years is a bit of a stretch. The vet thinks the turtle probably lived by drinking condensation and eating termites or other bugs.

LED Strips for Horses: Tail Lights

We live in an era where many consumer electronics have silly names, often with lowercase i’s, an abundance of z’s or a lack of vowels. But not Tail Lights. Because that’s just what they are, a set of LED strips that strap onto horse tails, giving the animals and their riders improved visibility and enabling owners to pimp their living rides.

At first glance, the idea of Tail Lights might be as silly as its name is plain. But it may end up saving lives. Sami Gros was moved to invent Tail Lights when she and and a friend were hit by a car while they were on horseback, even though both of them were already wearing reflectors and were even in a town where horseback riding was commonplace.

Tail Lights have two main parts. Its CPU and battery are in a case small enough to be stowed in practically any saddle bag, while the LED strips themselves are connected by a cable to the battery. The strips are waterproof and will be available in different colors. Tail Lights has two brightness modes as well as a strobe mode.

Gallop to Kickstarter and pledge at least $160 (USD) to get a Tail Lights unit as a reward. Sami should make a unicorn horn light for frontal visibility. And also because that would be awesome.

Turtle with Amputated Leg Gets Some Help from a LEGO Wheel

Schildi was a pet turtle living in Germany, presumably leading a happy life, gnawing on greens and taking forever to get anywhere as turtles do, but when he was abandoned, he lost a leg somehow. Luckily for Schildi, he was rescued, and vets were able to amputate his mangled limb. They replaced it with mankind’s solution for all things: LEGO.

Yes, this turtle now has a LEGO wheel in place of its front right leg. Because let’s face it, a shopping cart wheel just would have been annoying on everyone’s ears. The doctor used a special surgical glue to stick the base block underneath Schildi and then superglue to connect the corners of the block:

“After that we could add blocks to achieve the correct height,” he said. And now the single wheel has proven to be successful, Schildi has been taken back to the animal shelter. “We will see him again once in a while for check-ups,” Azmanis said. “If he gets a ‘flat tyre’ it will be a simple matter to replace the wheel. They move around quite a lot so I’d expect to see him for a new wheel about once a year.”

They should have put a LEGO castle on his back while they were at it. That would be awesome.

Grumpy Cat is Every Disney Princess

Prepare to have all your favorite memories from childhood invaded by none other than Grumpy Cat. She’s a huge sensation on the interwebs and people young and old recognize her as the cat from “that meme.”

Grumpy Cat is often the subject of artwork, and she’s the inspiration once again in artist Eric Proctor aka TsaoShi’s latest gallery on deviantArt.

Eric’s work puts Grumpy Cat at the center of iconic Disney movie moments, from the Little Mermaid on her rock with the water splashing all about or that scene from Lion King where Rafiki is raising little Simba. (On a side note, I can’t believe that I still remember the baboon’s name after all these years!)

You can check out the rest of the series in the gallery below.

Placekitten: Let Kitties Take the Place of Blank Spaces in Web Designs

Who doesn’t love kittens? I’m no professional web designer, but I’ve tried designing a site or two, and let me just say it involved a lot of hard work. One of the tiring aspects of web design is having to insert placeholders for designs, images, or code that aren’t ready yet.

So to make that aspect of design less of a pain and a bit more fun, Placekitten was born.

Placekittenmagnify

It’s essentially an image gallery of sorts that was created with web designers in mind. Using the site, developers, designers, and cat lovers can generate various sizes of cat and kitten images that can be used as placeholders in their designs. Just use the URL below to get started.

http://placekitten.com/width/height

For example, if you want an image that’s 300×200, just type “http://placekitten.com/300/200” into your URL to get your correctly-sized kitty.

Here’s a couple of examples generated by the service:

Awwwwww. Placekitten exists thanks to Mark James.

Boston Dynamics WildCat Robot Runs Free: Cheetah Unchained

Boston Dynamics’ Cheetah robot impressed people all over the world when it proved that it can outrun even the fastest of our species. But some of you may have been thinking, what’s to be afraid of? It’s tied down. Unless we’re on the same treadmill Cheetah isn’t touching anybody. Well, it’s not tied down anymore.

darpa wildcat cheetah legged robotmagnify

Meet WildCat, the latest generation of the Cheetah. While its tethered predecessor has a recorded top speed of over 29mph, WildCat can “only” get up to 16mph. Not enough to outrun Usain Bolt, but enough to catch up to the average human, running at a full out sprint.

Between drones and Boston Dynamics’ DARPA-funded cats and dogs, we should start looking into this Rapture thing.

Procatinator: The Furry Feline Backbone of the Internet

What do you do when you procrastinate? Look at cat pictures and GIFs on the web? Really? Why, me too!

It seems like a lot of us do nothing but scour the internet for the latest feline-related funnies, so it isn’t really surprising that something like Procatinator actually exists.

procatinator 1

It’s a hilarious website that partners up a random animated kitty with an appropriate song from YouTube. Consider it a soundtrack of sorts for the cat that’s being featured in the GIF.

procatinator 3

The site was started back in 2011, so it’s definitely been there for a while now, serving up laughs and hours of mindless fun to people who constantly put off important stuff like work for later. I mean, why do it now when you can do it later?

procatinator 2

Spoken like a true procrastinator.
