OK, if you are one of those weirdos who thinks GIFs are irritating and pointless, this website that lets people insert their own faces into a variety of animated scenarios will not please you. Not one bit.
With movies you’ve already seen, sitting through the whole thing again is a little bit much. Since you already know what’s going to happen, you only need to see a few key sequences to get the same amount of enjoyment. A quick top off as opposed to a full refill, you know? Reddit understood that and developed a whole new genre of animated gifs: the full movie GIF, an entire movie distilled into a GIF shot.
If you ever, for a second, wondered questions like what’s the purpose of life or why the Internet exists or what are you going to eat for lunch today, the answer is simply this magical software tool created by GitHub user LindseyB. It automatically turns any Star Wars quote into an animated GIF, complete with caption of said quote.
The animated GIF is a medium born of the digital age. But this artist’s mechanized flipbook project is a combination of frame-by-frame animation and kinetic sculpture—an infinite loop for a simpler time.
Only a handful of individuals have succeeded in making the GIF into something artful. We can definitely add artist and designer Guillaume Kurkdjian to that list, because his collection of lovely, child-like animations are dioramas of whimsical delight.
