Datamosh Your Photos With This Glitch Art App

MyGlass Android app hints at possible multiplayer gaming service

Google Glass comes with a MyGlass companion app for Android that allows the pair of smart glasses to do a range of cool and nifty things. However, it’s been discovered that deep down inside the app lies a few hints at what’s to come for the Android platform, most notably the possibility of an all-out multiplayer gaming service for Android.

android

According to Android Police, who tore apart the APK file of the MyGlass app, a feature list of an unnamed gaming service was found buried deep in the code, and it mentions things like multiplayer support, in-game chat, lobbies, leaderboards, and achievements — essentially an extensive multiplayer service with “just about every gaming feature you could possibly imagine.”

It’s not known whether or not the list was put there on purpose to build hype or if it was done entirely by accident. It’s certainly not common for Google to include needless things in an app, including this MyGlass app which includes code to Google Play games, which Google Glass can’t take advantage of.

Essentially, this would be the equivalent to Apple’s Game Center service on iOS, which isn’t all that great anyway, but if Google could create their own gaming service for Android and include some killer features, it could look much more attractive than iOS’s gaming offerings. We could see something from Google as early as their I/O conference later next month, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Chinese App Store Clone ‘KuaiYong’ Installs Pirated iOS Apps Without Jailbreaking

Chinese App Store Clone KuaiYong Installs Pirated iOS Apps Without Jailbreaking

One of the main reasons why anybody jailbreaks their iOS device is due to the fact the jailbreak community has come up with some amazing applications to help make the most of your device in ways Apple would most likely reject if they were ever attempted to be made available in the App Store. But not many people like the idea of jailbreaking, which is why an app store clone in China is making it possible for iOS users to download and install pirated OS apps without the need to jailbreak.

The service is called KuaiYong, has been around for nearly a year and is only accessible within China, which people speculate may be so they aren’t caught by Apple. Although it looks like KuaiYong may be working on making its service available internationally to English-speaking customers. The way the service works is by using bulk enterprise licensing to bypass Apple’s safeguards, essentially distributing the same exact app over and over again. (more…)

Iceland Has An App That Helps Prevent Accidental Incest

Iceland Has An App That Helps Prevent Accidental Incest

If there’s one thing we’ve learned about Iceland this year, it’s that they’re not big fans of Internet pornography. But one thing we could have done without is the fact the country suffers from potentially having accidental incest as the entire country has a population of only 320,000, which means you’re bound to bump into someone your related to more often then not.

An app called IslendigaApp, which translates to “App of Icelanders,” is trying to help the country from accidentally falling in love with a relative by allowing its users to “bump” their phones together to see if they’re in any way related. If the app senses they’re closely related, it emits a warning alarm, although we’re not sure just how much of a deterrent that will be if a distant cousin of yours is smoking hot. (more…)

Evernote Skitch for Mac and iOS updates with PDF annotations and stamps

Evernote has updated its popular screenshot and feedback tool Skitch today with some pretty nifty features catered towards those who like to mess around with PDFs. The app now comes with the ability to annotate PDFs, as well as use “stamps,” which are essentially small symbols that you can place in a PDF to tell a collaborator whether something gets the thumbs up or thumbs down.

Stamps1

You can import single or multi-page PDFs into Skitch, and then you can annotate them with different shapes, arrows, and of course text. This allows you to point out items that need to be changed or want to give special attention to. You can also use the Highlighter tool to draw attention to a specific section of text or imagery.

The new stamps feature includes five stamps. There’s a red “X” stamp for bringing attention to things that need changed, an exclamation mark to draw attention to something that possibly needs attention, a question mark for items that may be confusing, a green checkmark to give the all clear, and a heart stamp for marking something that is excellent and shouldn’t be changed.

Once you place a stamp, you can add text next to the stamp to elaborate on your change that you want made. These features are actually only available to premium Evernote users, but the company is offering a 30-day free period where anyone can use these new features. The update is available now in the Mac App Store as well as in iTunes.

Yahoo Mail, Weather Apps Released For iPad

Yahoo Mail, Weather Apps Released For iPad

Apple and Yahoo may be getting all comfortable with one another due to their iPhone partnership, but Yahoo is showing some love today to the iPad as it released two applications for the device today: Yahoo! Mail and Yahoo! Weather.

The Yahoo Mail application has been optimized to take advantage of the iPad’s larger screen, which it already has a version of the application available on the iPhone and iPod Touch that recently were redesigned to offer better speed and intuitiveness. As for the Yahoo Weather application, data from their service was already being used by Apple for its own dedicated Weather application, so if you were a fan of Apple’s Weather app, then you’ll know what to expect with Yahoo’s weather application. Yahoo launches new Weather and Mail mobile apps

In an effort to build more presence in the mobile market, and continue with its redesign initiative, Yahoo has launched a couple of new apps. The company released Yahoo Weather for iPhone, and Yahoo Mail for the iPad and Android tablets. This marks the first time that Yahoo has released their own weather app, as well as their Mail app for tablets.

First off, the Weather app looks amazingly gorgeous, and it’s easy to see why: the app integrates with the company’s Flickr photo-sharing service, allowing Yahoo to pull appropriate images from your area that represent the current weather situation and time of day. Honestly, we never thought Yahoo could be capable of such beauty.

As for the Mail app, it’s already been available for smartphones for quite some time, but it’s now optimized for tablets of both the Android and iOS variety. Yahoo says they wanted the Mail app to act like a digital magazine, so there are no folders, no buttons, and no tabs. It’s essentially “just you and your mail.”

The Weather app for iPhone is now live in the iTunes App Store, although some people may still not see it, so it seems to be rolling out slowly. As for the Mail app for tablets, it’s available now in iTunes and is compatible with the full-size iPad and the iPad mini. The app is also live in the Google Play store for Android tablets.
