World of Warcraft Remote service is now free to use

World of Warcraft is a game that can be played in many different ways – some play it for the more social aspects of the game, such as meeting new friends, joining a guild and just socializing while playing casually. Then you have those who raid hardcore every night of the week, then you have those who participate in the Arenas for PVP and then you have the auctioneer who spends most of their time in the auction house buying and selling. While you can’t raid or participate in Arena via your mobile phone, what you can do is chat with guildies and check up on your Auction House purchases and sales via the World of Warcraft Remote app.

Originally attached with a subscription service, Blizzard announced not too long ago that the World of Warcraft Remote service is now free for all current subscribers! In case you’re wondering what the app does, it basically lets you stay in touch with your guild mates, create, bid and collect gold via the Auction House. It can be pretty handy for the player that likes to stay  up to date while on the go, so for more details, head on over to the World of Warcraft blog.

Harmonix launches Rock Band World social app on Facebook

Sometimes the most fun games aren’t necessarily the ones with the best story or the best action, but the one that you constantly beat your friends in. It’s an amazing feeling and we’re sure that there are many gamers out there who would probably agree with us. That being said, if you and your friends are still trying to beat each other in Rock Band 3 or Rock Band Blitz, well, now your exploits can be shown off to everyone on your Facebook. This is thanks to Harmonix recently releasing a new social app for Facebook dubbed “Rock Band World”.

Basically what this does is it allows players to challenge each other and upload their scores for the world to see – bragging rights essentially. It also allows gamers to shop for music and accomplish social goals which in turn will give players in-game coins for Rock Band Blitz. The app is currently available on Facebook so if you’d like to check it out, head on over for the details.

Facebook reportedly “forcing” employees to use Android phones in order to improve the Android Facebook app

As we had reported a couple of days ago, Facebook for iOS was given a pretty big update which hopefully will sit well with iOS users. Unfortunately the Android version of the Facebook app has yet to receive the same treatment and while I personally find that the app isn’t too horrible, it could do some with tweaks and improvements and added functionality. Facebook seems to think so as well and according to reports, Facebook’s management has instituted a new “policy” that supposedly will make employees more proactive in making the Android Facebook app just as good, if not better than its recently updated iOS counterpart.

If the reports are true, Facebook is currently “forcing” its employees to use Android phones, which at the same time meant that they had to install the Android version of the Facebook app. They are hoping if employees are stuck using the “terrible” app, they will be forced to do something about it which will ultimately translate into a better experience for Android users. In any case what do Android users think of the current Facebook app? Do you think there are many things about it that could stand to be improved upon? Or do you think it’s fine the way it is?

Adobe Revel 1.5 released with new UI, text captions and auto-syncing albums

Adobe Revel 1.5 released with new UI, text captions and auto-syncing albumsAdobe’s cloud-based photo storage and editing app has been enjoying its new name since it hopped off the Carousel, and now it’s appreciating a feature bump too. Version 1.5 has just hit the virtual shelves of the Mac and iTunes stores, complete with a new UI and the option to log in using Facebook or Google accounts. Functionality wise, the update adds text captioning for your snaps and the ability to create albums which auto-sync across your devices and can be shared with others via the web. Alright, so the update isn’t revolutionizing the service, but we’re sure those that currently subscribe are reveling in it.

Facebook 5.0 for iOS hands-on

Facebook is one of the most downloaded apps in the world, but yet, it got fairly average app-store reviews for something that is so universally used. There are basically two main points of friction for mobile Facebook users: speed and battery usage. Facebook 5.0 is an attempt to fix the speed problem, and we can hope that some of the battery issues got better as well. (more…)

Telenav Scout for Apps comes to Android and Windows Phone, Scout Drive Button widget released for websitebased nav

iOS app devs got Telenav turn-by-turn navigation access in March of this year, and now the same can be said for folks programming for Android and Windows Phone. In case you forgot, the Scout for Apps platform allows developers to incorporate Scout’s personalized navigation directly into their applications. Not only that, but Telenav’s making it easier for website owners to do the same for their websites with the release of the Scout Drive Button. The button puts the power of browser-based GPS mapping in an easy-to-implement widget, for free, with no coding expertise required. It also allows users to click the Drive button in their desktop browser to send a link to their phones that’ll launch navigation directly, as opposed to inputting the address into a nav app manually. Interested? More info awaits after the break, and devs can get down and dirty with both Scout for Apps and the Drive widget at the sources below.
