Think Geek's PowerUp brings the arcade controls to your room's light switch

Sure, you could get one of Think Geek’s iCade controllers to play actual arcade-style button mashing games — or you just bring the nostalgia of the joystick to your light switch for $30 with its recently introduced Power-Up Arcade light switch plate. The unit can replace any standard light switch plate, turning it into a faux gaming control panel. A traditional joystick replaces your old switch nub to control the lights, while its two action buttons enable “pew pew” sound effects when pressed. If all that wasn’t enough, the Power-Up also acts as a nightlight after you use it to pwn hit the main lights in your quarters (you’ll have to provide of a duo of AA batteries yourself). Check out the video below to see it in action for yourself.

Power-Up Arcade Light Switch Plate

Do you love all things from the arcade? If you have answered in the affirmative, then you might be interested in this $29.99 Power-Up Arcade Light Switch Plate the next time you are thinking of a room makeover. This is the ideal way to “power up” your room, so to speak, where your standard issue light switch has been replaced with a joystick. Not only that, when you light up the room and press the red buttons, it will also emit a “pew pew pew” sound, now how about that?

All it takes are a few quick minutes with the screwdriver, where you will be transported back to the heydays of those smoke-filled, dingy looking arcade rooms. Press the joystick down, and your lights will turn on. Push it down, and they will turn off, plunging you into darkness once again. As for the two red buttons, whenever you press them, the right kind of nostalgic sound effects will make entering the room all the more fun. You need not hold an engineering degree to install the Power-Up Arcade Light Switch Plate, but make sure a couple of AA batteries are adequately juiced to keep it going.
