Archos GamePad now shipping for 130 Android 41, 16GHz CPU and a bona fide Dpad

You’ve waited long enough, haven’t you? The low-cost PMP leader has kept the mantra alive with its GamePad, which is now shipping to those interested for £129.99. Put simply, it’s a widescreen gaming handheld that runs Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean), replete with a 1.6GHz dual-core processor and Mali 400mp quad-core GPU. There’s a 1,024 x 600 resolution touchpanel, physical control buttons and analog sticks, and the whole thing checks in at just 0.3-inches thick. Unfortunately, there’s no word on battery life, but even the optimist in us can’t predict a number that’d be worthy of boasting about. Hit up the source link to make plans for purchase, or click past the break for the full presser.

Update: Anandtech reports the device will come within range of US gaming thumbs early next year, though there’s no dollar price to go with that information.

ARCHOS GamePad hits Europe today, USA in 2013

The folks at ARCHOS have today announced retail availability for their new GamePad device for Europe with plans to unleash the device in the USA in the first quarter of 2013. This device is a sort of a gaming hybrid with physical controls on the sides of a center touchscreen display, this making it both a tablet and a personal gaming console. This machine will be released with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and a collection of ARCHOS-added apps for a lovely gaming experience.

This machine works with many games by bringing physical controls to take the place of virtual controls. In fact, ARCHOS currently has it that the GamePade uses “unique mapping software that allows you to link the virtual controls of any game to physical controls.” Any game at all – that’s a winning formula!

This machine is able to access the official Google Play store for content as well as Google Mobile Services galore. With this device’s 14 physical buttons as well as dual analog thumb-sticks and technology unique to ARCHOS, this may well be the gaming device you’ve been looking for for Android. The display is 1024 x 600 pixels across a 7-inch display with a 1.6GHz dual-core CPU under the hood.

You’ll be able to work with wi-fi for connectivity and is able to connect to your HDTV via its built-in mini-HDMI port so you can view your games gigantically. Get pumped up about the release across Europe today for a cool 149.99€ or wait with your fingernails deep in your kneecaps for the first quarter of 2013 where it’ll be released in the USA.

Archos 97 XS Hits The FCC

It did not take too long for the larger sized Archos 97 XS to arrive at the FCC, taking less than a week after its sibling, the Archos 80 XS knocked on the doors of the FCC. Needless to say, it does not take a genius to figure out just what kind of screen size the Archos 97 XS packs – we are talking about a 9.7-inch display, but other than that, details on the Archos 97 XS remain scant, so we do hope to fish for leaks somewhere on the Internet.

What we do know, however, is that Archos relies on a TI OMAP processor for their 10-inch Archos 101 XS, while inside the 8-inch Archos 80 XS, a Rockchip processor runs underneath the hood. Hence, it remains unclear as to whether the Archos 97 XS will rock to the Texas Instruments or Rockchip camp. Some of the safer assumptions that one can make would be this – the Archos 97 XS will, in all probability, ship with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on board, although who are we to say that Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is not out of the picture? Since the other XS tablets come with built-in kickstands, it would also make sense to see the Archos 97 XS follow suit.

Archos FamilyPad Debuts In UK

Since Christmas is coming, you must be wondering yourself just what kind of gifts do you think you can get for the rest of the family. Well, I am quite sure that a tablet or new smartphone is high on most people’s lists, and a quarter of a year after the Archos FamilyPad hit the FCC, it will finally make its market debut – just in time for the frenzied holiday shopping season too, I might add. The Archos FamilyPad will sport a 13.3” display, making it the largest tablet out there in the market at the moment, which is ideal to have the family gather around it.

Sporting 10x multitouch support, the Archos FamilyPad is tipped to be the focal point of families in the living room, although I believe that Archos might need a few more releases in the same vein and some wicked marketing before such an idea will overtake the TV or video game console. The Archos FamilyPad’s display carries 1280×800 resolution, and will feature 8GB internal memory, a microSD memory card slot, a 1GHz ARM Cortex A8 processor, HDMI output and a front and rear camera – both of them being 2-megapixel shooters. Running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the Archos FamilyPad will retail for £274.99 in the UK, as US residents might have to play the patience card for a little while longer.

DNP Archos's 133inch FamilyPad is designed for FamilyTime

Three months after we spied the Archos FamilyPad on the FCC, it’s finally making its debut just in time for the holiday shopping season. As its name suggests, the 13.3-inch tablet is designed for a whole family to gather around — though we doubt it would be very comfortable if your family has more than four people. With 10x multitouch support, Archos claims families can use it to watch movies, keep organized, share pictures and play digital board games; the company even pre-installed a few of the latter to get your family started. The FamilyPad doesn’t have the best of specs, with a 1,280×800 HD display, 8GB flash memory, a microSD card slot, a 1GHz ARM Cortex A8 CPU, HDMI output and a front and rear camera that are 2-megapixels each. It does run Ice Cream Sandwich and would offer “a variety of email accounts for each family member.” Those in the UK can purchase it for £274.99 ($438) when it’s available in December, while US residents might have to wait a little longer. Maybe you can give your kids some ChildPads to play on their own instead; they might appreciate it more than enforced togetherness.

Archos announces 80 Cobalt Android tablet

Just in case the world doesn’t have enough lower-end tablets, Archos has launched the 80 Cobalt, a dual-core Android slate with a yet-unannounced price tag that will probably be relatively inexpensive, if the specs are any indication. There’s no information on launch date yet, but we’re guessing it’ll be out in time for the Christmas rush.

The Archos 80 Cobalt has a 1.6GHz dual-core processor (unnamed), as well as a quad-core GPU. There’s 1GB of RAM, and an 8-inch capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 1024 x 768. It runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Ports include a micro USB 2.0 and standard 3.5mm audio jack.

While the 80 Cobalt does have a (rear) webcam, it comes in at just 2-megapixels. For those impromptu video conferencing sessions, there’s a 0.3-megapixel front camera as well. Inside you’ll find 8GB of internal storage space and a microSDHC expansion slot with support for up to 64GB if you need more space for you apps and files.

Overall, the 80 Cobalt isn’t something that will make tablet-lovers pay much attention, as it matches dozens of other Android slates with similar specs. However, if the price ends up being lowish, as seems to be the case, this could make a decent cheapo slate for the kids or to give as a Christmas present. No word yet on when this tablet’s going to be released.

Archos’ New Android Tablet is the Same Size as the iPad Mini

French mobile computer maker Archos announced a new tablet today, and it seems like a low end-affair, sporting Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, a dual-core processor of unknown origin, and 8GB of expandable storage. But what may be the most interesting part is that the Archos 80 Cobalt features a 8-inch (7.85-inch panel), 1024×768 pixel display, which, hey, is larger and lower resolution than either the Nexus 7 or the Kindle Fire HD. Sound familiar? It’s the same size and resolution as Apple’s new iPad Mini screen.  (more…)

Archos is back with its latest Android tablet in the form of the Archos 80 Cobalt. Measuring 12mm thick and weighing at just 470 grams, the tablet features an 8-inch display with a 1024 x 768 pixel resolution, a 1.6 GHz dual-core processor, a quad-core GPU, a 1GB RAM, an 8GB of storage space, a micro SDHC card slot (up to 64GB), a 2-megapixel rear-facing camera, a 0.3-megapixel front-facing camera, Wi-Fi and USB 2.0. The Archos 80 Cobalt runs on the Google Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. Too bad, there is no info on pricing at this time. [Ubergizmo]

Archos adds the 80 Cobalt to its ICS tablet range: 8-inch screen, dual-core 1.6GHz CPU and 1GB of RAM

The FCC may have spoiled the surprise months ago, but Archos has taken to Facebook to officially reveal the new member of its Elements range — the Archos 80 Cobalt. As you may have guessed from the familiar size codification, the WiFi-only slate sports an 8-inch capacitive screen filled with 1024 x 768 pixels, supporting 1080p video playback. The other specs you’ll want to know include the dual-core processor running at 1.6GHz, 1GB of RAM and 8 gigs of on-board storage, expandable with a microSD card of up to 64GB. Modest 2-megapixel and 0.3-megapixel shooters occupy the back and front of the 0.48-inch (12mm) thick tablet, respectively, which weighs in at a solid one pound (470g). There’s no word on a release date or pricing for this ICS device, but we’d imagine the answers are “soon” and “under $200.” Any more than that, and we can’t see people choosing it over, say, a Nexus 7, even if it does have an extra inch on the competition.
