ArenaNet introduces character makeover options for Guild Wars 2

With the many hours MMO gamers spend on their characters, choosing the character’s name and looks is extremely important since they’ll be stuck with it. However we understand the tastes and preferences change over time, and much like how most of us look back at the email addresses and internet handles we used back when we were teenagers and cringe, we’re sure that there are Guild Wars 2 gamers out there who might have gotten a bit tired of how their character looks like. The good news is that ArenaNet has recognized that tastes change over time and has since introduced two new features that allow gamers to change the way their characters look.

Available through the Black Lion Trading Company, the Self-Style Hair Kit will set gamers back 250 gems, while the Total Makeover Kit will go for 350 gems although bulk discounts will be made available for both items. Unfortunately changing the name of your character isn’t available for now, but we guess this will be a more convenient way of changing the way your character looks, unless you’re in the mood and have the time to level a new character.

The Lost Shores will be the next Guild Wars 2 update

A couple of days ago we reported that one of the reasons why ArenaNet was not extending their Shadow of the Mad King Halloween event was because they had another major content updated planned for the 15th of November. Some of you guys asked us what the update would contain and now we have an answer for you. ArenaNet has revealed that the next major content update would be called The Lost Shores and while the exact nature of the update remains somewhat a mystery, we can only guess that it has something to do with the sea – at least based on what we can see in the image above. However based on the description, it seems that The Lost Shores will be a world event that will supposedly change Tyria forever.

This world event will be taking place on the weekend of the update’s launch and will introduce a new island for players to explore. The update will also introduce a beta PvP map and a new dungeon that is expected to be different from before, in which the difficulty of the dungeon will increase as players descend further into it. Sounds pretty exciting, doesn’t it? So, who’s looking forward to this update?

Next Guild Wars 2 major content update arriving 15th November

Now it seems that due to Hurricane Sandy, there are many gamers affected by it which at the same time has affected their ability to play Guild Wars 2, which means that they are missing out on the Halloween special. Unsurprisingly many of these gamers have reached out to ArenaNet, asking them if it was possible for them to extend their Shadow of the Mad King Halloween event to make up for “lost time”. Unfortunately for those players, it looks like ArenaNet will not be doing so, but at the same time it was revealed that this was because ArenaNet has a major content updated scheduled for the 15th of November. ArenaNet introducing Halloween-themed features to Guild Wars 2 in update

As Halloween approaches, there are some MMOs out there that take advantage of the holidays to come up with new events, costumes, rewards and etc. based on that event for their players. Well the good news is that if you’re playing Guild Wars 2, it looks like ArenaNet might have something special planned for Halloween this year. The Halloween themed goodies will be part of the upcoming Guild Wars 2 update – Shadow of the Mad King, which will include four new acts with a Halloween theme, and Halloween-themed items up for sale via the Black Lion Trading Company. Apart from that, the update is also expected to introduce new features to the game, such as paid PvP tournaments, new mini-dungeons, jumping puzzles and more. The update is scheduled for release on the 22nd of October, with the new acts expected to remain available through 31st of October. More details can be found on ArenaNet’s website.

Guild Wars 2 to introduce paid PvP tournaments

One of the joys of playing an MMO is that there’s something for everyone. For example gamers who wish to roleplay can do so, while those who prefer to quest and raid can do so, while gamers who wish to fight against other players can do so as well. Interestingly though, ArenaNet has recently announced that as far as PvP for Guild Wars 2 is concerned, gamers will have the option of participating in paid tournaments. This seems like a departure from typical PvP events which is generally free of charge, although we expect that its paid factor should weed out those looking to fool around and encourage the more serious gamer.

ArenaNet did not state how much these paid PvP arenas will cost, but they did state that players will need tickets which can be bought from the gem store, or which can also be found in reward chests from the free tournaments, or when players gain a rank. ArenaNet also stated that all players participating will receive something for their efforts, although unsurprisingly the teams that place 1st to 4th will receive much better rewards. Given that Guild Wars 2 is free to play, as in there is no monthly subscription fee normally associated with MMOs, we guess paid PvP tournaments is just one of the ways ArenaNet can make money from the game. More details about the future of PvP in Guild Wars 2 can be found on ArenaNet’s blog in the source link below.

Guild Wars 2 manages to sell over 2 million copies

It has been a little over two weeks since Guild Wars 2 was launched, and both NCsoft and ArenaNet have come forward and revealed that the game has since sold an impressive 2 million copies! This is good given the time frame, and let’s not forget that digital sales were suspended for over a week as ArenaNet worked to ensure that there was enough space on their servers so that the gameplay experience would not affect both new and existing players. Also according to NCsoft, they are boasting that there are over 400,000 players online concurrently which we have to admit isn’t too shabby!

The problem with MMOs is that despite the good intentions behind them, usually the lack of players translated into a neglected game that would eventually die out. At the same time having a large player base is also a marketing strategy that will encourage players to give it a go. If you think that World of Warcraft isn’t for you, especially with the monthly subscription fee, then perhaps Guild Wars 2’s impressive stats might be good enough for you to check the game out.
