Given it’s been so important to our development, it’s no surprise mankind has a love affair with fire. Deep down we’re all arsonists in our own little way: lighting candles, stoking campfires, or curling up near a fireplace. We all love watching things bur—right, guys? right—and that desire can be kept in check with this Nerone cityscape fireplace that’s a better alternative to wanton acts of arson. More »
I’m sure you’ve seen anatomical models of the different human systems when you took biology in high school. There’s the good, old skeletal system and of course, the muscular system.
Maybe Koen Hauser had these lessons in mind when he came up with his recent series, because they’re creative, different, and probably all anatomically correct.
Dubbed the ‘Modische Atlas der Anatomie’ or the ‘Fashionable Atlas of Anatomy’ when translated, the series features digital manipulations that literally strip the skin off of the models to reveal the organs and muscles underneath.
The images exude contrasting elements, with models posing in a relaxed manner while their bones and tendons are revealed in the same image.
Even more impressive is the fact that he came up with this series and published it over a decade ago.
With this series, Koen was able to masterfully and artistically combine both science and art into one neat package.

In most offices, corkboards with announcements and notices tacked on using pushpins are uncommon. Perhaps this is where Kenyon Yeh got the inspiration for his Pushpin Cork table-slash-stool design.
There are three cool things about Yeh’s design. First of all, it takes elements from both the corkboard and the pushpin and merged the entire thing to form his piece. Second, it’s multi-functional. Use it as a stool if you need one, or flip it over to its other end and use it as a side table. Lastly, the whole thing is made out of cork! That, in itself, is pretty amazing enough already.
Thankfully, there’s no giant pin sticking out of it where you sit.

New York artist fashions dead drop from dying hardware, mounts DVD burner in city wall
Posted in: Today's ChiliThe optical drive may be making its exit in the world of personal computing, but at least it seems to still have a place in artistic architecture. Aram Bartholl — the man behind New York City’s infamous USB dead drops — has installed a DVD burner into the side of the Museum of the Moving Image to promote HOT, an art exhibition described as “a group show about video that is not video.” Passersby who pop in a blank DVD-R will be rewarded with a digital copy of the show and the satisfaction of finally having something to do with their aging stash of unused optical media. Just how do you install PC hardware in a museum wall? Drill an enormous hole, of course — check out a video of the installation for yourself after the break.

TARDIS + DeLorean = CARDIS
Posted in: Today's ChiliMan, it would be so awesome if Timelord police drove around in these. This TARDIS Delorean, or CARDIS (or TarDeLorean) is the most awesome car I have ever laid eyes on. I don’t know if it is bigger on the inside, but I am confident the Doctor will have no problem picking up hot new companions in this beauty.
By Doctor I mean the 11th. Wait, I mean Doc Brown. When it comes to DeLorean interiors, the whole bigger on the inside thing is really important too, given how cramped these things usually are.
This awesome piece of awesomeness is blowing my mind and I can’t believe that I never saw this before. If only it were real. Sadly it’s just some awesome artwork created by a guy named Pacta for a Worth1000 competition.

My mind pretty much exploded inwardly when I saw these pictures from below. Created by Michael H. Rohde, the pictures show something you hardly see (if ever): the perspective of the ground. It’s so unsettling that it feels like you’ve stepped into some sort of time space warp or saw a glitch in the world that you shouldn’t have seen. Check it out. More »
Chairs are more than just pieces of furniture. At times, they can also be random yet awesome pieces of artwork, like the Enginering Temporality chair by Design Academy graduate Tuomas Markunpoika Tolvanen.
Tolvanen got the inspiration to do his project after witnessing his grandmother’s declining health due to Alzheimer’s. The project is actually a tribute to human fragility, and from the looks of it, Tolvanen was able to get that point across very well.
Perhaps the process to get the chair looking like that is even more striking than its final appearance.
So here’s what Tolvanen did: he cut up some tubular steel into rings and then joined them back together to form a semi-covering over the chair. And then he burned the entire thing. He says:
My pursuit was to give an object a memory, create tension and stage a play between the perfect, anonymous mass produced structural material and the imperfect of human being. The shell that is left caresses the vanished object, the memory of it, referring to the past.
It looks pretty awesome, doesn’t it? In addition to the chair, Tolvanen also created a cabinet, using similar techniques.

Cigarette Packs Turned into Fighter Jets, Feel the Need for Speed…and Nicotine
Posted in: Today's ChiliCheck out these awesome fighter jets made out of cigarette packs. They look pretty awesome. Who knew that the designs on cigarette packs would make such good looking fighter jets? Maverick this is Goose *cough cough*.
While I wouldn’t encourage anyone to take up smoking just so they can build fighter jet models like these, if you are already a smoker, you might as well create something beautiful out of your habit. Smoke ‘em if you got ‘em, then launch them around the house while singing “Take my breath awayyyyyy”.
You could probably even hide a smoke or two inside some of these. Play with your toy for awhile, then grab your smoke from within and light up. Or stick your smoke in these planes, light it up and the burning hot end will look like an afterburner. Hey, it’s up to you. Hit the link for more cool cigarette pack airplanes.

You Can Turn Your iPhone’s Glass Plate Into a Beautiful Piece of Film [Iphone Cases]
Posted in: Today's Chili If you think if you have a cool iPhone case, it’s not as awesome as this: Jake Potts, a photographer, converted the glass back of an iPhone to a collodion process wet plate. Meaning, he effectively turned the glass of an iPhone into film and shot a picture onto it. Check it out. More »
