Last week, at a former bodega in Alphabet City, food designer Emilie Baltz and smart object designer Carla Diana conducted the second performance of their "Lickestra"—a "musical licking performance" involving conductive ice cream cones, four volunteers, and a pre-recorded soundtrack of peculiar tones and baselines created by musician Arone Dyer of Buke&Gase.
Unperturbed by the scourge of vertical video shot on mobile phones, a bunch of Serious Artists have banded together for a film festival devoted exclusively to incorrectly oriented videos. Why subject our eyeballs to such unnatural composition? For art, duh.
These Super Mario Bros. nesting dolls looks fantastic. Individually, each is a quality work of art. They are a tad dark in theme though. I mean, Bowser seems to have ripped the Princess’ arm off. Heck, Mario is holding a bloody wrench.
Bowser is the biggest one. Open him up and its’a me Mario. Then comes Luigi and finally Goomba. These are the work of William Butler who certainly knows his way around the Mushroom Kingdom – and a paintbrush.
That Goomba looks super mean and Luigi is ready to take him down with a fireball – or just stomp on him. William’s vision of the game is definitely awesome, though I doubt Nintendo will ever release such a gory version.
I would so buy these if they were for sale.

What if the world of Westeros was actually set in the wonderful world of Disney? The Seven Kingdoms would be up for grabs in the magical Disney universe. Disney princesses would become the cunning women of Game of Thrones. I know, crazy. Surprisingly not though. The characters swap work out pretty well.
Josh Cooley has a good sense of humor which is probably what led him to start drawing R-rated scenes from famous movies in the style of a children’s book. Alien, Fight Club, The Godfather, Jaws—they’re all there. And they’re for sale.
LEGO Foods are Delectably Inedible
Posted in: Today's ChiliYou can create all sorts of awesome sculptures and structures with LEGO. From models of cars and buildings to carnivals and landmarks, the sky’s the limit, as long as you have the right bricks and enough creativity.
LEGO builder Sachiko Akinaga did something different and built a gallery of LEGO food that look absolutely scrumptious. Who knew dishes made from LEGO could look so yummy?
It’s hard to believe that Sachiko only used bricks available in various LEGO sets to come up with LEGO versions of bananas, pancakes (complete with syrup and butter), sushi, and even a Big Mac with a side of fries!
Sachiko competes in LEGO building competitions and has been mastering her craft for ten years. You can learn more about her LEGO craft and inspiration in the video below:
Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson is a master of light and color, creating trippy experiential works that mess with our perception. The artist’s latest piece, recently installed at the John and Mary Pappajohn Sculpture Park in Des Moines, Iowa, is like walking inside a human-scaled spectrograph.
During the Cold War, the British military proposed placing nuclear land mines throughout the North German Plain to ensnare Soviet troops if they invaded. But how could they keep the bombs at the right temperature underground? Enter the idea of live chickens, which, if supplied with feed, could warm mines for about a week at a time. The project was scrapped—but the proposal was very real.
Artists, it’s time to transmute your skills into fame, treasure and a trip to Blizzard’s headquarters. The game developer has teamed up with the online community deviantART to set up the Diablo III: Reaper of Souls fan art contest. To enter, you have to make “a portrait or illustration showing a central figure from one of the six classes of Heroes of Sanctuary or of Malthael preparing for the coming conflict.”
The first place winner gets a two night trip to Blizzard’s office in California, $5,000 (USD), a signed copy of Diablo III: Reaper of Souls Collector’s Edition, 1-year Premium membership to DeviantART, 8,000 DeviantART points and will have his or her winning entry printed and signed by the Diablo III Creative Team.
The contest is open to all deviantART members who are at least 17 years-old. Open a portal to deviantART to find out more about the contest.
