Backyard Mech Made from Truck Parts

If you have a ton of old truck parts, don’t just throw them in the yard and call it redneck decor, build something special. Something like this awesome mech. This one was built from an old broken down Nissan truck and a ton of other metal scraps.

It stands 12 feet tall and now guards this guy’s house day and night. The whole thing took about a month to complete. Every Nissan should just come out of the factory like this. This guy has an eye for detail. Just look at all of those guns.

I bet his neighbors keep their distance. No one wants to wake this giant.

These Renderings of HIV Show That a Deadly Virus Can Be Beautiful

For those of us who are normal, non-scientist people, an image of a virus doesn’t necessarily hold any meaning. Which floating orb is a healthy cell? And which one is the actual virus? The CGSociety recently invited artists to create renderings of the HIV virus in blood—and the winning images are as educational as they are beautiful.

This Psychedelic Fever Dream Is Made Of Ink, Soap And Oil

You may not interact with ink as much as you used to, but you have to give it credit for powering millions of pens and a crap ton of printing. We still consume a lot of media that exists because of ink. And a good way to celebrate it might be to just let it flow and see what happens. Ruslan Khasanov, a Russian graphic designer, felt the same way so he mixed ink, oil and soap to make this trippy and awesome video called Pacific Light. Khasanov was inspired when he watched black beads of soy sauce form in oil while he was cooking. There are great stills and gifs on his Behance. Kind of makes me long for a tie die comeback. The Strangest Installations and Art Projects on Earth

The Strangest Installations and Art Projects on Earth

"If someone ever catches you burying a murder victim," an eerily confident artist once told us, "quickly reassure them that it’s for an art project. Ninety-nine times out of a hundred, it’s enough to get them quickly off your case."

Art pieces like these are why that advice rings so true.

You Can Make Beautiful Abstract Art With The Google Maps API

Google Maps offers a lot of tools for developers (or anyone!) to work with, visualize and customize the existing service. And a lot of cool maps, infographics and tools come out of the APIs. Photos Look Magical When You Develop Them With Stuff You Shouldn’t

Photos Look Magical When You Develop Them With Stuff You Shouldn't

Photography is like anything else in life; there’s a right way and a wrong way to do it. It just so happens, though, that in this case the wrong way yields way more satisfying results. Matthew Cetta has made striking photographs by abusing his film with everything from absinthe to turpentine. And you can’t tear your eyes away.

Pixel by Pixel: 97-Year-Old Creates Amazing Digital Art Using Microsoft Paint

I remember creating a bunch of digital artwork on Microsoft Paint when I was still a kid. A single painting took hours to complete, and I would always print the finished drawing when I was done. I found a couple of them when I was cleaning up our attic and let me just say that the mermaid I drew looked more like an alien goldfish.

But it’s possible to create amazing art on MS Paint – if you’ve got the skill and the patience. One man who has both is Hal Lasko.

Pixel Painter

Hal is a 97-year-old artist, and the main program he uses for his artwork is MS Paint. In fact, some of the images in the image above were created using Microsoft’s very basic paint program.

The most unbelievable part? Hal is legally blind.

Some of his prints are available for sale online. Check them out and maybe buy a few to support Hal. Each print is priced at $98 (USD).

You can check out a fascinating documentary on Hal the Pixel Painter here.
