Though the ultimate destination will most likely be an LCD display, many apps begin their lives as nothing more than concept sketches on paper. And the next time you start doodling your brilliant app idea, this Pixel Ruler will ensure the various elements in its user interface are perfectly in proportion. More »
Most of us will eat anything as long as it’s been battered and fried in hot oil. How about some deep-fried gadgets? Maybe served up in a bucket with the picture of Colonel Sanders on it. Well if you like your consumer electronics like you like your fast food, then read on.
Artist Henry Hargreaves likes to deep fry all of the gadgets that we know and love. He doesn’t care about calories or artery clogging oil. He really just wants to burn and melt things in the name of artistic expression.
He fried up stuff like Macbooks, Game Boys, iPhones, iPads, earbuds, you name it. They don’t look very appetizing, but they are probably better for you than most actual fried foods. Or not.
I think we’d all try to put things we’re not supposed to in the fry basket if we had access to a deep-fryer, just to see how they turned out.

Those cords on vintage video game consoles sure got in the way whenever you weren’t playing. They were long enough that they always got twisted up and tangled everywhere. So if you have a bunch of old Nintendo controllers, you might as well use all of that cord length to make some art.
That’s what artist Erika Iris Simmons (aka iRI5) did in a series titled ‘Ghost In The Machine’. Extending the series of cassette tape art we saw a couple of years back, she now uses the cords from old game controllers to create characters including Mario, and Link as well as Pac-Man. Some were recently for sale in a gallery exhibition for $2,000(USD) each. Not a bad profit margin for controller cable doodles.
Check out the rest in her gallery. She makes some pretty awesome stuff.

Artist Brings Street View Bystanders Back Into the Real World [Street View]
Posted in: Today's Chili Countless thousands have become the subject of candid photos thanks to Google’s Street View campaign. After they’re photographed, their faces are dutifully blurred, and they stand as digital statutes in cyberspace, but one artist likes bringing them back into the real world. More »
Apparently some people really are into their computers. And when I say really, I mean really. Take, for instance, this one girl who decided to have the Adobe Photoshop toolbar tattooed onto her arm.
I wonder how she handles version all those frequent version upgrades (and if her tattoo artist overcharges her for them like Adobe does.) I suppose if she ever tires of it, she could always try and have it removed with the magic eraser tool.

The Spirograph completely revolutionized doodling as we know it, and Narcélio Grud hopes it can do the same for street art which is commonly looked at as nothing more than graffiti. His machine lets anyone who’s unskilled with a can of spraypaint make complex patterns with a spin of its wheel. More »
Ibis hotels to have robots paint art while they track your sleep: no, that’s not creepy at all (video)
Posted in: Today's ChiliFirst they invaded our factories, and now it’s our hotel rooms. Is nowhere safe from the robots? In truth, Ibis’ upcoming Sleep Art project is very slick, even if it smacks of robot voyeurism. Ibis hotels in Berlin, London and Paris will let 40 successful applicants sleep on beds that each have 80 sensors translating movements, sound and temperature into truly unique acrylic paintings by robotic arms connected through WiFi. You don’t have to worry that the machines are literally watching you sleep — there’s no cameras or other visual records of the night’s tossing and turning, apart from the abstract lines on the canvas. All the same, if you succeed in landing a stay in one of the Sleep Art hotel rooms between October 13th and November 23rd, you’re a brave person. We all know how this ends.
