Huawei Edge Aluminum Casing Allegedly Leaked

Huawei Edge Aluminum Casing Allegedly Leaked

Earlier today we reported that Huawei had confirmed that they will be releasing a new smartphone for the US this summer. The company offered no further details on this upcoming smartphone, they didn’t even drop a name. Huawei has a decent portfolio of smartphones that are moderately priced and have good specifications. The alleged aluminium casing of what is being called Huawei Edge has leaked, this is thought to be the second high-end smartphone that the Chinese manufacturer will be releasing in second half of 2013.

For those who are hankering after the self-proclaimed “most powerful smartphone” and are living outside of China, some patience is in order if you want the WCDMA model to land on your doorsteps. Well, as for those of you living in China and are all right with China Telecom, then the Huawei Ascend D2 will cost you approximately $640 after conversion, bringing quad-core power to the palm of your hands alongside 32GB of internal memory.

Huawei’s dual-SIM Ascend D2 for China Telecom priced at $640, available online tomorrow

Huawei's Ascend D2 gets a price and a date for China,

It’s only been about a week since the Ascend D2’s official debut at CES, but according to Huawei’s latest announcement on Sina Weibo, the manufacturer will already be offering its unsubsidized 5-inch 1080p flagship at its online store right after 5pm local time tomorrow. Specifically, this will be a China Telecom (CDMA2000) variant with dual-SIM support, so Huawei fans outside China may want to wait for the WCDMA flavor (there’s always the Oppo Find 5 as well). If you happen to be in China and don’t mind using China Telecom, then feel free to fork out ¥3,990 or about $640 to be one of the first handful of owners of this 32GB, 1.5GHz quad-core device. That is, if you manage to get your order through “while stocks last.”

Huawei Ascend D2 Touted As Most Powerful Smartphone Currently Available

huawei ascend p2 06 640x426 Huawei Ascend D2 Touted As Most Powerful Smartphone Currently Available

[CES 2013] If you ask most people what the most powerful smartphone on the market right now, people who know technology well will probably hesitate and think for a few days, conduct experiments and maybe give you an answer within a year. But after today, people will know the Huawei Ascend D2 is the most powerful smartphone currently available.

At CES today, Huawei launched its flagship smartphone, the Ascend D2, and it has some pretty nice specs for those of you who want to have the most powerful devices surrounding you at all times. The Ascend D2 features a 5-inch FHD IPS+ 443 PPI Super Retina LCD display, 1.5GHz quad-core CPU, a 13MP BSI camera and a 3000mAh battery, which when combined with Huawei’s proprietary battery efficiency technology, the Ascend D2 has a stand-by time of six days.

Not only are its innards impressive, but the Ascend D2 is protected by an anti-scratch Corning Gorilla glass that is dust and water resistant. Its package is housed in an aluminum body and metal frame and weighs 170g and measures 9.9mm thin.

Huawei’s Ascend D2 will be available in pure white and crystal blue this month in China, with a Japanese release expected in the future.

Huawei Officially Reveals The 6.1-Inch Ascend Mate And The 5-Inch Ascend D2, We Go Hands-On

Neither LG’s nor AT&T’s pre-CES conferences had much to show off in the way of smartphone hardware, but Huawei has just changed all that here at its press event at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. The Chinese company finally put weeks of speculation (not to mention a slew of leaks) to rest with the official announcement of the Huawei Ascend Mate and Ascend D2 — a pair of Android phones with plus-sized displays.

Huawei pegs the Mate as its largest smartphone and the D2 as its most powerful, but the Ascend Mate is easily the more peculiar of the two, thanks in large part to its spacious 6.1-inch 720p display (the Droid DNA in my pocket suddenly feels so inadequate). Naturally, Huawei’s phone/tablet hybrid requires a fair bit of horsepower to push all those pixels, and the company leaned on a 1.4GHz quad-core chipset from its HiSilicon semiconductor division. The Mate also has 2GB of RAM under the hood, sports a ridiculous 4,050mAh battery, comes with 8GB of internal flash storage out of the gate, and runs Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2 (obscured partially because of Huawei’s custom Emotion UI. Curiously, earlier reports pegged the Mate has having a higher resolution 1080p display and a quicker processor — there’s no word yet on why this particular version is different.

But how does it feel? Well, it comes as no surprise that the Mate is a handful, but it’s surprisingly grippable thanks to its slim waistline. That said, one-handed operation is dicey to say the least, but it’s not downright impossible if you’ve got big enough mitts and enable a one-handed UI similar to the kind seen on the Galaxy Note. Speaking of mitts, Huawei’s Magic Touch screen tech also means the Mate will accept touch input from a gloved hand, though I didn’t have any on hand to try it out with. Putting the size aside though, flipping through the device was a largely seamless experience — there was no lag or visual stuttering to be found.

Meanwhile, the Ascend D2 is slightly less spacious with its 5-inch 1080p panel, but its spec sheet is just as strong. As expected, the D2 indeed sports a similar 1.5GHz quad-core processor (also from HiSilicon), a 13-megapixel rear camera, and a hefty 3,000 mAh battery. It’s a hair thicker than the Mate, but it makes up for it by being dust and water-resistant to boot — judging by the tank of water on stage here we’ll soon get a demonstration. The D2′s chassis is perhaps naturally a bit thinner than its big brother, but its rounded back actually makes it a very comfortable device to hang onto. The company’s very proud of this big little thing — they just said they used “more advanced manufacturing technology than the iPhone.” Seeing as how it’s Huawei’s most powerful phone, it should come as no surprise that it too didn’t display any lag while scrolling to homescreens and app lists, though it’s tough to get a good feel for performance in such a short period of time.

Huawei has been gearing up to make a splash in the U.S. any time now, but unfortunately there’s no word on if or when these two handsets will officially make their way to these parts. Then again, Huawei has recently taken to selling some of its hardware directly though Amazon, so there’s a chance that Huawei could bring these fabulous phablets Stateside one way or another.

Huawei’s 5-Inch Ascend D2 Takes the Scene With a Killer Screen

Huawei isn’t the biggest player in the phone game, at least here in the States, but it’s making moves to step up. Huawei’s taking another stab at high-end relevance with its new Ascend D2, which looks like it could be a nice device if it isn’t plagued by delays. More »

Huawei Ascend D2 Caught On Camera

HUAWEI ASCEND D2 FRONT Huawei Ascend D2 Caught On CameraSo word has it that Huawei’s Ascend D2 could be making an appearance at CES 2013, and given the scale of CES it wouldn’t be surprising if Huawei decided to take that opportunity to show off their new products. We’ve seen renderings of the device before, but if you’re curious as to how it might look like in real life, photos of the Ascend D2 handset have been caught on camera (via IT Home). Unfortunately these are not full body shots so we guess we will have to wait for more leaks or the official unveiling to see more of it. In the meantime hopefully these photos will be enough to give you guys a basic idea of what to expect. For those who might have forgotten, the Ascend D2 will be Huawei’s take on the phablet with a 5” 1920×1080 Full HD display. It will come with a 1.5GHz quad-core processor reportedly of Huawei’s own making, 2GB of RAM, a 13MP rear-facing camera, a 3,000mAh battery and will come with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on board. It is also said to retail about $500 which given its specs might be a good deal for some.

Huawei Ascend D2 Benchmark Reveals Hardware Details

Late last month at China, Huawei trumpeted the introduction of their maiden phablet attempt, calling it the Ascend D2. At that point in time, Huawei remained quiet on the kind of hardware specifications that the Ascend D2 carried, but a leak is inevitable eventually in this day and age, where GLBenchmark has just confirmed the chipset as well as screen specifications of the Ascend D2 in a benchmark result.

The 5” LCD display will jive alongside the best of them from HTC (HTC J Butterfly, HTC Droid DNA), sporting Full HD resolution, in addition to a 1.5GHz quad-core processor to get the job done when you need all the processing muscle. We can presume that this means it will carry a home-brewed K3V2 chipset that also powered the Huawei Ascend D quad. The GLBenchmark result also points toward Android 4.1 Jelly Bean as the operating system of choice, coupled with Huawei’s Emotion UI on top.

Huawei Ascend D2 announced

Here we are with yet another handset from Huawei right after the Honor 2 announcement – it does seem as though we are dealing with plenty of sequels here this time around. The Huawei Ascend D2 could probably be the poor man’s version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, considering how it is thrust into the phablet category with its 5-inch touchscreen display at HD resolution. Apart from that, the Huawei Ascend D2 is no slouch underneath the hood, considering how it carries a quad-core 1.5GHz processor, with a rather beefy 13-megapixel camera at the back and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing shooter for your video call needs.

There will also be a 3,000mAh battery to drive the Ascend D2 throughout the work day, and hopefully, beyond, while Android 4.1 Jelly Bean will be made available right out of the box so that you need not wait for a software update – perhaps for Android 4.2 though. The Huawei Ascend D2 looks set for a China release sometime next year, which by then, the hardware specifications might just get bumped down the pecking order and then some. No idea on how much it will cost though.
