Huawei Ascend W2 Specifications Reportedly Leaked

Huawei Ascend W2 Specifications Reportedly Leaked

Huawei’s first Windows Phone 8 smartphone, the Ascend W1, was announced at CES 2013. It has a decent set of specifications for a device of its range. Now back in January we reported that the Chinese manufacturer was going to announce a couple of new smartphones at MWC 2013, one of them was supposed to be the Ascend W2. It was reportedly going to be 7.7mm thin and the second Windows Phone 8 device from Huawei. We didn’t hear much about this device after that.

There’s been a major development on this front today. Alleged Ascend W2 specifications leaked online today and they reveal that this device is actually going to be at par with other high-end WP8 smartphones. The device reportedly touts a 1.5Ghz Qualcomm S4 processor with 1GB RAM, a 4.3 inch display with 1280 x 720 resolution, an 8 megapixel camera with 1080p HD recording capability and a 2,000 mAh battery. The leaked specifications do not mention how much internal storage the W2 has and if there’s an option of externally increasing storage via microSD card. This leak comes from a relatively unknown source, so its best to take all of this with a grain of salt.

Huawei Ascend W1 Gets FCC Approval

Huawei Ascend W1 Gets FCC ApprovalHuawei’s first attempt at rolling out a Windows Phone 8 smartphone to the masses appears in the form of the Huawei Ascend W1, where it debuted at CES 2013 earlier this year. Thing is, the Huawei Ascend W1 is not equipped to function like a high end device simply because this is an entry-level handset, and we have good news. Having passed through the tests that have been put forward by the FCC, this means that the Windows Phone 8-powered Huawei Ascend W1 will no longer be limited to countries such as Russia, China and India, and those of us living in the US ought to be able to grab hold of it soon.

In fact, the Huawei Ascend W1’s recent FCC approval was spotted with a rather obvious TracFone branding on it, and it does seem as though it will be hitting the markets under the guise of the Net10 low-cost brand. It will only feature HSDPA connectivity instead of 4G LTE, but assuming the Huawei Ascend W1 commands a relatively affordable price tag to suit its place in the smartphone hierarchy, the hardware specifications do seem to be in line with its pricing territory.

Huawei Ascend W1 now available in China for $260, cheaper than Lumia 620 locally

We knew that Huawei’s 4-inch Ascend W1 will be hitting the UK at some point this quarter, but the company is once again launching a new device in its home country first. Currently available in black at the official online store, this dual-core, WCDMA 900/2100-flavored W1 is priced at ¥1,599 or about $260, making it the cheapest Windows Phone 8 device you can get in China — probably something that will help address Huawei’s smartphone penetration problem. Better yet, placing an order now will knock ¥100 (about $16) off the order but only while stocks last, so interested buyers better start calling their pals in China soon, especially before they shut down for Chinese New Year early next month!

The title of cheapest WP8 device in China was previously held by Nokia’s ¥1,999 (about $320) Lumia 620, though in the US it is available for just $249. Given the bigger screen and battery, the W1 might be a better buy, but we shall reserve our final judgement until we get to play with it properly. Meanwhile, somewhere in Redmond, Steve Ballmer is closely observing with a massive grin.

Huawei Ascend W1 launching on O2 in UK, due to land sometime in Q1

Huawei Ascend W1 launching on O2 in UK, due to land sometime in Q1

A little late to the party, perhaps, but Huawei is finally trotting out that Windows Phone 8 device it promised way back in June. So, when can you get it? Sometime in the first quarter, if you’re living in the UK — O2 just announced the Ascend W1 as its first Windows Phone 8 handset. Specifics on the launch are as allusive as ever, of course — Huawei would only say that the handset would hit China and Russia in January, though they were more than happy to show off its 4-inch 480 x 800 display and gush over its 1,950mAh battery. Into official, if vague, availability declarations? Check out the press release after the break.

Huawei expected to announce a Windows Phone device soon

The Huawei Ascend W1 is certainly no secret but for those who have missed out on the news, the Ascend W1 is Huawei’s take on a Windows Phone 8 device and based on the leaks we’ve seen so far (assuming they are real), the Ascend W1 has followed in the footsteps of its Nokia and HTC competition by adopting bright and distinctive colors for its design. So far apart from the various leaked photos, there has been no word on when or where the device will be released but supposedly during a conference that took place in Milan, the manager of Huawei Italy confirmed that the company would be releasing a Windows Phone shortly.

It should be noted that the manager said “a” Windows Phone, and did not specifically out the Ascend W1, but considering that the Ascend W1 appears to be the only known WP device in Huawei’s stable at the moment, there is a good chance that he could be referring to it. Either way word has it that it could be revealed in all of its official glory come CES 2013 and given that it is one of the biggest consumer electronics expo, we wouldn’t be surprised if Huawei chose that time frame, but until we hear otherwise take it with a grain of salt and check back with us at a later date for the details.

Huawei Ascend W1 spotted again, this time with its WP8 siblings

While Android phones and iPhones tend to come in monochromatic color offerings, with the odd spattering of color here and there, it’s safe to assume that it would be easy to point out a Windows Phone 8 handset from the crowd simply by looking at the color. After all both Nokia and HTC’s WP8 offerings come in pretty vibrant colors, and we’re not sure if this is a manufacturer’s requirement, but it looks like Huawei’s upcoming Ascend W1 is following suit. The handset has been leaked several times in the past, and here it is one more time (via WPXAP) in all of its glory, except that this time it can be seen alongside its WP8 siblings.

No word on when or where it will be released, but according to the rumors, the Ascend W1 will be a Windows Phone 8 device with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor under its hood, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage, a 4” display and a 5MP rear-facing camera. With the amount of leaks we’ve seen so far, it would be safe to assume that it’s only a matter of time when the handset is finally released.

Huawei Ascend W1 makes an appearance in Blue and White

We’ve kept anxious eyes on Huawei’s Ascend W1 for a while now, so imagine our disappointment when it was a no-show at the Windows Phone 8 launch. Fortunately, a Huawei employee has tweeted a pair of pictures that show the device in all of its budget-handset glories. Gone are the rounded corners of handsets like the Ascend D Quad, in favor of a boxier aesthetic that sits well with Metro Windows 8 Style whatever we’re calling it this week. Hardware-wise, it’s believed to be carrying a 1.2GHz dual-core CPU, 4-inch, 800 x 480 display, 2,000mAh battery and a 5-megapixel camera. There’s also an unconfirmed rumor that we’ll first see the China-exclusive device at CES 2013, breaking the hearts of impoverished westerners everywhere.

Huawei Ascend W1 Spotted Again In New Photos

We did check out leaked images of the Huawei Ascend W1 just last month, and you can be sure that this is not going to be the last of Windows Phone 8 devices from the Chinese manufacturer. In fact, the handset was seen in a cyan that would actually bring one back to what Nokia normally splashes on their devices. Well, additional photos of the Huawei Ascend W1 were discovered just today, and this time around, the handset itself was photographed in white and black. General expectations point to a CES 2013 announcement, and chances are pretty good that the Ascend W1 will be made available in Europe and Asia soon, while folks living in the US will most probably see the smartphone hit T-Mobile’s network.

Here is a quick refresher of what the Huawei Ascend W1 is capable of delivering – it is said to come with a 4-inch WVGA display, powered by a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, carry 512MB RAM as well as 4GB of internal memory. Two cameras will be thrown into the mix – one at the back that shoots 5-megapixel images, while the one in front does 0.3-megapixel photos, while a 2,000mAh battery ensures the Ascend W1 lasts you through the work day.

Huawei Ascend W1 to debut at CES 2013 [Rumor]

Last month a press rendering of the Huawei Ascend W1 was spotted, revealing the China company’s attempt at a Windows Phone 8 device, which they seemingly have taken a design cue from Nokia with the use of bright colors. In any case it was suggested that perhaps we could be seeing the Ascend W1 by the end of the year, but unfortunately that will not be the case. According to the folks at WPCentral, they report that the Huawei Ascend W1 will only make its official debut come 2013 – to be more specific, the Ascend W1 will most likely be shown off a CES 2013 which will be taking place in January.

We will be taking this with a grain of salt for now, but given that CES is a pretty big deal and a great place to show off new products, we wouldn’t be surprised if that was the case. Alleged hardware specifications of the Ascend W1 include a 4” WVGA display, a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, a VGA front-facing camera, a 5MP rear-facing camera, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage with Windows Phone 8 running the show.
