Huawei Ascend W2 To See A November Release

Huawei Ascend W2 To See A November ReleaseWhen it comes to Windows Phone devices, Nokia is probably the name that most people are familiar with, but let’s not forget the folks at Huawei who also make such devices, like the recently announced Huawei Ascend W2. The handset was officially announced earlier this month, although Huawei did leave out certain details, such as when the handset would be made available, and how much it will cost. The latter will presumably depend on where you are, but in China it is reportedly selling for around $150, so we don’t expect it to deviate too much from its price.

As for availability, Huawei has announced that the handset will be made available  in Russia and the Netherlands later this month, and is expected to roll out to markets such a India in the near future as well. The Huawei Ascend W2, for those who might have forgotten, comes in a variety of different colors, such as black, blue, yellow, or red. It will feature a 4.3” IPS WVGA LCD TFT display with Magic Touch technology. It will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor clocked at 1.4GHz (dual-core), 512MB of RAM, and will come with 8GB of onboard storage with microSD support. It will also feature a 5MP rear-facing camera and will not come with a front-facing camera, unfortunately.

Huawei Ascend W2 offers Windows Phone 8 option to the masses

huawei-ascend-w2When we talk about Windows Phone 8 devices, most of the time, our minds would shift towards Nokia as the hardware manufacturer of choice (who has since been purchased by Microsoft a few months ago). Of course, Samsung as well as HTC have also engaged themselves in the world of Windows Phone 8 but their smartphone offerings tend to lean more toward the direction of Android. Well, perhaps there is another name for you to consider if you want something different from Android and iOS, and yet do not want to touch the apparent sinking ship of BlackBerry OS, and that would be Huawei with their new Windows Phone 8-powered Huawei Ascend W2.

The Huawei Ascend W2 will bring with it a burst of color to the smartphone experience, where you will be able to choose from a range of vibrant finishes that will include black, blue, yellow, and red shades. Underneath the hood, you will find a Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-core 1.4GHz processor, where this new Windows Phone 8 device will not fall short of processing power either, as you should be able to chat, text, game and browse on it without batting an eyelid.

As for the rest of the hardware specifications that will accompany the Huawei Ascend W2, we are looking at a 4.3-inch IPS WVGA LCD screen that delivers a brighter and more vivid display, TFT Magic Touch technology that offers touchscreen responsiveness even when you are wearing a glove, 720P support for video recording and playback, Windows Phone Store support, as well as the ability to hook up to the cloud to be more productive while you are on the go. After all, the Huawei Ascend W2 is synchronized automatically to 7GB of free SkyDrive cloud storage to get you started right out of the box. It will arrive in China first, before making its way to other markets in time to come.

Huawei Ascend W2 Promotional Video Released

Remember the other day Huawei took the wraps off the Ascend W2 Windows Phone device? Well if you wanted to see the phone in action, Huawei has since posted a new video on YouTube in which some of the features of the Ascend W2 are revealed and shared. For example the handset is shown off in a multitude of colors, and interestingly enough, albeit novel, the capacitive buttons on the bottom of the phone will actually sync with the color of the phone, which we have to say is pretty cool. The video also shows off how the super sensitive touchscreen and also takes us through a brief walkthrough of the Windows Phone operating system.

The Ascend W2 is not the highest end Windows Phone handset at the moment. The device will feature a 4.3” IPS WVGA LCD display (it’s not even HD), a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor clocked at 1.4GHz, 512MB of RAM, 8GB of onboard storage, and a camera that will be able to capture 720p HD video. Pricing and availability remain unknown at this point in time, but if you’re interested in what looks like it will most likely be a budget handset, be sure to check out the promotional video above for more details.

Huawei Ascend W2 Specifications Reportedly Leaked

Huawei Ascend W2 Specifications Reportedly Leaked

Huawei’s first Windows Phone 8 smartphone, the Ascend W1, was announced at CES 2013. It has a decent set of specifications for a device of its range. Now back in January we reported that the Chinese manufacturer was going to announce a couple of new smartphones at MWC 2013, one of them was supposed to be the Ascend W2. It was reportedly going to be 7.7mm thin and the second Windows Phone 8 device from Huawei. We didn’t hear much about this device after that.

There’s been a major development on this front today. Alleged Ascend W2 specifications leaked online today and they reveal that this device is actually going to be at par with other high-end WP8 smartphones. The device reportedly touts a 1.5Ghz Qualcomm S4 processor with 1GB RAM, a 4.3 inch display with 1280 x 720 resolution, an 8 megapixel camera with 1080p HD recording capability and a 2,000 mAh battery. The leaked specifications do not mention how much internal storage the W2 has and if there’s an option of externally increasing storage via microSD card. This leak comes from a relatively unknown source, so its best to take all of this with a grain of salt.

Huawei Ascend W2 Headed For MWC 2013 Debut?

ascend w2 Huawei Ascend W2 Headed For MWC 2013 Debut?Just after the dust at CES 2013 has settled, there is yet another event that we will have to gear up for – Mobile World Congress that is happening in Barcelona, Spain, where Huawei is said to unleash a couple of new smartphones in that part of the world. At least, this is what we could gather from Richard Yu of Huawei who mentioned just as much on Sina Weibo, the Chinese version of Twitter. Apart from the upcoming Huawei Ascend P2 that will most likely pick up the gong for being the thinnest smartphone in the world (at least for a moment), the other smartphone that would also fall under the “thinnest” category would be the Windows Phone 8-powered Huawei Ascend W2.

It seems that the Huawei Ascend W2 will accompany the Huawei Ascend W1 as part of their Windows Phone 8 line up, measuring a mere 7.7mm thin (allegedly). Other speculated hardware specifications include a 4.5-inch 720p HD ultra-sensitive touchscreen display that works even when you wear a pair of gloves, an 8-megapixel rear shooter, a dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, 16GB of internal memory, and a 2,800 mAh battery.
