Hasta La Gadget!

By now, you’re likely aware that Huawei has pushed out a plethora of new slabs at IFA 2012, including a couple of fresh Ascends and a pair of new MediaPads. What you see above is the company’s G600, which, as you might’ve noticed during our hands-on time with this 4.5-inch handset, comes boasting a slice of Google’s Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0.4, to be precise), a dual-core 1.2GHz CPU, 4GB of onboard storage and a screen resolution of 960 x 540 — of course, let’s not forget it’s also sporting the novel Emotion UI. More importantly, however, Huawei’s noting the G600 is set to be up for grabs as soon as next month — but, unfortunately, that’s only expected to be in some undisclosed “select markets.” Either way, at least you know you’ll be able to take your pick between that Mysterious Black or Pure White when it eventually comes to your area (if it does at all).

It’s a curious thing to have gold signify the low-end, but that’s just what Huawei’s done with its G series smartphone line. That bottom-dwelling, budget tier, first announced at this past Mobile World Congress, has already seen a couple of category cousins come out into the open (see: Vodafone’s G 300 and T-Mobile’s G 312), so color us unsurprised to find yet another single-core, Googlefied device crop up at the FCC. The associated docs leave little to the imagination, treating us to unobstructed images of the Ascend G 302D — presumably, a 4-incher. We’re not quite sure what software the phone’ll run when it ships, though from the looks of those very ICS-like capacitive keys, we wouldn’t rule Android 4.0 out. Spec-wise, we have the included manual and some RF testing to go off of, revealing two different sized batteries — a 1,350mAh and 1,500mAh — support for Bluetooth, WiFi b/g/n and AT&T-compatible radios. That’s not to say this lil’ guy’s guaranteed an official U.S. slot on that carrier’s lineup, but it should make for a decent import option. Being related to that considerably powerful Ascend D Quad could spark some sort of a double-edged sword effect on Huawei’s lesser-specced D1, but if all those cores the former has to offer mean nothing to those in China, the latter wouldn’t be such a bad choice. In case you’ve forgotten — unlike its beefier, quad-core-loaded brother — this 4.5-inch (1280 x 720) Ascend D1’s only sporting a dual-core, 1.5GHz TI OMAP CPU, which is paired next to 1GB of RAM and a tasty bite of Google’s 4.0 treat. According to Huawei, the device is set to hit online shelves throughout the Great Wall starting today, with Russia being its next stop come August and “other markets to follow” sometime after.
