Ask Engadget: Best wireless touchpad / trackpad?

We know you’ve got questions, and if you’re brave enough to ask the world for answers, here’s the outlet to do so. This week’s Ask Engadget question is coming to us from Matt, who badly, badly needs to give his digits something to do on a trackpad whilst enjoying media from the couch.

“I’m looking for a wireless trackpad to use with my older (2.5 or so years old) C2D MacBook that’s perpetually docked to my home theater. Something sleek, thin, not too small, made of high quality materials. Ideally, it would natively support all of (Snow) Leopard’s multitouch inputs, and even more ideally, it would have a charging dock / base. I’m not a fan of using a mouse on my sofa, and this would be just the thing I’m looking for. The only problem is that I’m not sure that such a thing even exists. Think you can throw me a bone?”

Alright, so does such a thing really exist? Where can you procure one? Did Matt just give you the best DIY idea of all time?

Ask Engadget: Which Android phone should I get?

We know you’ve got questions, and if you’re brave enough to ask the world for answers, here’s the outlet to do so. This week’s Ask Engadget question is coming to us from Chris, who is deathly afraid that making the wrong choice on an Android phone will ruin his life completely.

“Listen, I am an obsessed gadget hound who needs some real help. I just switched to Sprint from Verizon about three months ago for the Pre. Mostly because they said that they weren’t getting an Android anytime soon (ha!). Anyways, I like the Pre but Sprint in my area is spotty at best. I have been intrigued with Android and have had HTC in the past with some good success, so I went for the Hero about a week ago. Now, I miss my hardware keyboard and am thinking about switching to the Moment. After Chris’s pithy review of the Moment it seems that may not be the correct choice either. So, I am still able to switch back to Verizon if I want and get the Droid when it arrives. Should I just trade up to the Moment when it comes out, see if I like it, and if not switch to the Droid? Or something else entirely? Help!”

Wow Chris, that’s a pretty compelling story. Really engrossing. So much so, in fact, that we’re sure you’ll have no issue getting all sorts of helpful replies in comments below. Right, Android lovers? Right?

Ask Engadget: a device to stream audio from one device to multiple sources?

We know you’ve got questions, and if you’re brave enough to ask the world for answers, here’s the outlet to do so. This week’s Ask Engadget question is coming to us from Chris, who just needs a few more streams to make his life complete.

“I am looking for a device that will stream sound from one source to several recipients. For example, I want to stream sound from my TV or stereo to my phone or MP3 player that has radio and Bluetooth capabilities. I have been told that a Bluetooth device can only stream music to one device. I have looked into radio transmitters and they seem like a decent choice, but I can’t find one that uses external power (USB or from the plug) and I would want one with a transmit range of around 50 meters. Thanks!”

We can’t say for certain, but we’re guessing Chris isn’t along here. Any hardcore streamers out there figured out an optimal solution to get one source to multiple devices? Do tell in comments below.

Ask Engadget: Best iPhone 3G (3GS) alarm clock / radio?

This week’s Ask Engadget question is coming to us from Bora (from Turkey, he’ll have you know), who is sick and tired of waking up to bleeps, wails and static-filled tunes not on his iPhone.

“I own an iPhone 3G and I’m looking for a decent speaker / alarm clock for it. I am going to listen music in a mid-sized room, so I want nice quality speakers with solid bass. I also want to use it as an alarm clock, so it would be great if there is such a feature. The price can be low-mid to mid-high range. I was looking at the Klipsch iGroove SXT; it’s powerful, slick and the reviews are good, but it doesn’t have an alarm clock feature. It’s no deal breaker if I can set it up from the iPhone, but I’m not sure. Anyway, I’m open to recommendations. Thanks!”

Don’t front — we know a big swath of you loyal iPhone owners out there also have some sort of docking alarm clock / radio, so why not share your experience(s) with yours? It’s easy, we promise.

Ask Engadget: Best wireless PMP for audio streaming?

We know you’ve got questions, and if you’re brave enough to ask the world for answers, here’s the outlet to do so. This week’s Ask Engadget question is coming to us from Magnus, who really, really wants Apple to make an iPod with integrated WiFi streaming. Or something.

“For a very long time I have been searching for a portable device where I can store all of my CDs in MP3 format and then stream the songs wirelessly to my HiFi system. The portable device must I’ve tried FM transmitters, they all suck. I don’t want a docking station. Any help? Thanks!” have a display so that I easily can scroll through the playlists (I don’t want to use a TV or monitor). I suppose that there must also be a second device that is connected to the HiFi system that would receive the wireless streams from the portable device.

Our first thought is to get a Bluetooth-enabled PMP and a BT-equipped stereo. Of course, our first thought could be awful. For any of you with experience in this field, why not throw this fellow a bone in comments below? He’ll be eternally grateful, we’re sure.

Ask Engadget: What’s the best business phone out there?

We know you’ve got questions, and if you’re brave enough to ask the world for answers, here’s the outlet to do so. This week’s Ask Engadget question is coming to us from Jimmy, who’s making it his business to find out what phone currently on the market is best for business.

“I’m in the market for a new phone and money isn’t a limitation. I’m also not partial to any particular US carrier, but here are some of the features I’d like to have: WiFi, GPS, good coverage in lots of places, push Gmail (a must!), physical keyboard (a must!), a touchscreen, decent battery life and a relatively slim body. And please, nothing that has a fruit logo on it. No offense to the fruit fans, though. Thanks!”

We’ve a feeling you started something Jimmy, and we’re not so sure we’re going to like the outcome. At any rate, we’d ask the dear readers to chime in here with a little help, and if you really had “iPhone 3GS” on the tip of your tongue, feel free to list it anyway — but your reasoning better be really, really good.

Ask Engadget: Best wireless laptop / mobile mouse?

This week’s Ask Engadget question is coming to us from K.arts, who’s clearly too pompous (or just frightened by the thought of carpal tunnel syndrome) to use that excuse-for-a-trackpad on his / her laptop.

“I’ve been looking for a decent wireless mouse for my laptop. Big fan of Logitech here, and I’m not so keen on Microsoft mice, but I’m very open to suggestions. I’m digging the Logitech VX Nano — compact size + receiver, fancy scroll wheel and additional buttons. What do you suggest? I’ve heard bad things about Bluetooth mice, so I’m considering avoiding those unless someone can convince me otherwise. Price? Just not too expensive. Thanks.”

So, jet-setters — what mouse gets the nod when you travel? Is Bluetooth really that bad these days? Drop some knowledge during your next layover, won’t you?

Ask Engadget: Best headphones for the extreme sports enthusiast?

“I’m looking for a pair of quality headphones that aren’t seemingly made of glass. The issue is I’m an avid BMXer which causes me to frequently bash on any type of technology that joins me for my daily riding. I’ve been through the higher quality headsets in the Skullcandy line as these are supposed to be built for “abuse,” which is disgustingly laughable. I cant wear earbuds or canal buds, as my large ears seem to have a repelling property upon anything that sits in them. Wired or Bluetooth doesn’t really matter, but I need something that can hold up to taking a few hits every now and again. I’m trying to keep ’em under $150. Thanks!”

We have all ideas at least a few readers get out of the house every now and then (don’t let us down here, okay?) and jump on the bike / board / etc., so hopefully those who abuse their cans in a similar fashion can explain which ones hold up. And… go!

Ask Engadget: what’s the best wireless rear surround speaker solution?

We know you’ve got questions, and if you’re brave enough to ask the world for answers, here’s the outlet to do so. This week’s Ask Engadget question is coming to us from Dan, who needs a way to hook his rear surround speakers up sans cabling in the worst possible way.

“What is the best wireless surround sound speaker solution? I have a home theater where running wires is just not feasible. I have my own speakers, so I don’t want a system that has speakers with integrated wireless. I’ve done a far amount of research and have only come across a few companies that even offer a reasonable solution: KEF, Kenwood and Rocketfish. Is there anything else out there? What do you recommend? Thank you!”

We know from experience that Dan’s not alone here. Have any of you folks already married to a surround system found a good way to hook those existing rears up without wires? How about a way to do it cheaply and without any audio delay? Drop some knowledge in comments below, cool?

Ask Engadget: Best pocket-sized camcorder out there?

“I need help! I want a small pocket camcorder but I’m not sure which one to get. I don’t want to fall into the hype of the Flip because I worry two hours won’t be enough. What should I be looking for when considering a small camcorder and where can I get a good quality one with expandable memory? Thanks!”

The pocket camcorder arena has blossomed into something of a small giant here recently, with entries from Sony, Samsung, Kodak and Creative flowing in to compete with the Ultra HD. For those of you who’ve laid down the cheddar, why not share your experiences here in order to direct Lulu to making the right choice? Surely you won’t pass on an opportunity to help a fellow nerd.
