ASUS VivoTab RT 10.1-inch Windows 8 RT tablet comes to AT&T later this year, we go hands-on (update: now with video!)

Asus VivoTab RT 101inch Windows 8 RT tablet comes to AT&T later this year, we go handson

The ASUS VivoTab RT is heading to AT&T exclusively this winter with 4G LTE — that much we already knew. But how does it feel? Well, it feels like a super thin (0.33-inches) and light (1.1 lb.) Windows 8 RT tablet. The Tegra 3 quad-core processor packs more than enough power into the 10.1-inch, multitouch Super IPS screen to make swapping between apps and other such affairs a smooth snap, and 2GB of internal RAM certainly doesn’t hurt in the speed department either. That 10.1-inch screen comes with ASUS’ “TruVid” technology, which intends to make your viewing experiences all the more magical — the screen looked plenty nice to us, as did media displayed on it, but perhaps not the “brilliant viewing experience” that ASUS is touting. There’s still no price for the device or its non-RT cousin (not to mention those AT&T data plans), but we expect to hear more in the near future — winter’s only so long, right?

ASUS VivoTab RT announced for AT&T with 4G LTE and Windows RT

With the Windows 8 wave oncoming quick, it appears to be AT&T that’s taking on the mobile bit of the universe first, here with the ASUS VivoTab RT with 4G LTE amongst others. This device is one that we’ve seen before – announced back during IFA 2012 first of all. It’s got an NVIDIA quad-core Tegra 3 TE processor inside, works with Windows RT (that’s essentially Windows 8 for tablets, for those of you that do not know), and a 10.1-inch Super IPS display.

This device works with ASUS’ own TruVivid technology for a “remarkably vivid and brilliant viewing experience” – enhancing an IPS display is a feat, and ASUS is ready to take it on, so we’ve seen. This device works with 32GB of internal storage and will be appearing on AT&T’s 4G LTE network rather soon. Just like the Samsung ATIV Smart PC for AT&T revealed earlier, this device will be out by the end of the year, more than likely in time for the holiday shopping season.

This tablet has a 1366 x 768 pixel resolution for a lovely sharp experience and runs with 2 GB RAM inside. You’ll be working with NFC abilities and a docking keyboard as well. This device looks rather similar to what we’ve seen from ASUS’ transformer series in the recent past, particularly similar to the ASUS Transformer Prime. Have a peek at our ASUS Transformer Prime original review for a closer look at what ASUS does in the hardware department – then stay tuned for this Windows-toting experience.

Just as it has been with several AT&T devices announced today, no pricing or release date has been dropped for the ASUS VivoTab RT. It does seem like a lock for 4G LTE, but we’ve yet to get absolute final confirmation on the date. Stay tuned for the release of this and a whole new torrential downpour of devices from AT&T and manufacturers galore, soon!

AT&T gets its hands on ASUS VivoTab RT and Samsung ATIV Smart PC, wants to put them in yours this holiday

AT&T just packed a one-two punch of holiday tablet news, announcing that it’s going to serve as the exclusive US carrier for both ASUS’s VivoTab RT and Samsung ATIV Smart PC, both of which were originally unveiled this summer. The ASUS offers up a quad-core processor, LTE and a 10.1-inch IPS display in a thin and light form factor. The somewhat beefy Samsung, on the other hand, has an 11.6 inch HD PLS display, 1.5GHZ processor and 64GB of storage. Not much on specifics on availability at this point, beyond the fact that both will be hitting AT&T’s site and stores “in time for the holidays.”

Alleged ASUS Padfone 2 specs leaked ahead of announcement

Are you looking forward to the ASUS Padfone 2? According to a leak, it seems that we can expect the device to be announced come 16th of October. Now thanks to the guys at Eee PC.it, it looks like we might have more clues as to what sort of specs the Padfone 2 could be packing under its hood. For starters we can expect a 4.7” display with a resolution of 1280×720. It is also expected to feature a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor along with a 13MP camera. Other features include WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC along with a 2,140mAh battery. No word on which version of Android it will be running on although according to an Antutu database spotting, the ASUS Padfone 2 is expected to come with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich at the very least. Hopefully on its alleged announcement on the 16th of October, it will see an upgrade to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Either way since none of this is official at the moment, we suggest you take this with a grain of salt for now, but do check back with us on the 16th where hopefully we will have more details to share with you guys!

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for the ASUS Transformer Prime now available for download via ASUS’ website

For those living in Sweden, there is a good chance that your ASUS Transformer Prime tablet has received its Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update. While that’s all and good, what about those of us living stateside? Well the good news is that if you’re living in the US and you have yet to receive the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for your ASUS Transformer Prime tablet, it seems that ASUS has put the update on their website, allowing users to download it if they wish. It should be noted that this means that you will need to download and manually install the upload via sideloading, so if you have no idea what that is about, perhaps doing your due diligence before proceeding might be a good idea – either that or you can wait for the update notification.

For those who are familiar with sideloading and don’t want to wait, head on over to the ASUS download center and search for the “TF201” (without quotes). It will then take you to your tablet’s firmware download page where you will be able to download the update which is 318.98MB in size, which will also bump your tablet’s firmware to V10.1.2.15.

Android Jelly Bean update now rolling out to ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity TF700

Android Jelly Bean update now rolling out to ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity TF700

ASUS had said it would be coming soon, and it appears owners of that long-named Transformer Pad Infinity TF700 are now on the receiving end of the promised Jelly Bean goodness. According to a kind tipster and other folks from the Xda-Developers forums, an Android 4.1.1 update can currently be found in the usual spot within settings, though there are others reporting to have checked and not being greeted with the same luck — this, however, is likely due to the rollout being a gradual one. Either way, those who wish to snag the Jelly Bean treats can try and do so now via the familiar “check for update” in your myriad ASUS tablet. And, of course, do let us know how it’s working out for you in the comments below.

Update: Unsurprisingly, the very same update is being pushed to ASUS’ other Transformer Pad / Prime devices as well.

[Thanks, Anthony]

ASUS denies rumor of $99 Google Nexus tablet

Last week thanks to a rumor, it was suggested that Google could be looking to release a new Nexus tablet, one that will be priced at a very affordable $99. Given that Google and ASUS collaborated on the Nexus 7, the report by Digitimes suggested that this $99 Nexus tablet could be the result of yet another Google and ASUS collaboration. Well if you were looking forward to a super cheap Google tablet, you might be disappointed to learn that ASUS has come forward to Digitimes and denied those rumors. Now Digitimes has had a pretty spotty record when it comes to the rumor mill, landing some pretty accurate ones while coming out swinging with some pretty far out ones as well. We could read more into this denial but for now, it seems that if you wanted a $99 Android tablet, you will have to look elsewhere. In the meantime we will be keeping our eyes out for more next-gen Nexus tablet news so check back with us later for more updates!
