Intel isn’t having much success keeping its upcoming Bay Trail-era Atom platform under wraps. If the previous overview leak wasn’t enough, a roadmap uncovered by Mobile Geeks has just explored the finer points of the tablet-oriented Bay View-T and its Valleyview-T processors. The most surprising leap may be in graphics: while we knew the GPU core would be much faster, we’re now seeing that the new Intel hardware can output to as much as a 2,560 x 1,600 display and record stereoscopic, 1080p 3D video in the event that 3D-capable tablets come back into vogue. Likewise, battery life should be rosier than you’d expect; Bay Trail-T can reach the same performance at half the power, which should lead to about two extra hours of video playback for at least some of the 1.6GHz to 2.1GHz processors in the lineup. Don’t get too excited by the potential, however. If the leak is accurate, Bay Trail for tablets isn’t expected until early 2014, by which point 22-nanometer Atoms will be a step behind the cutting edge.

Most of us who remember Myst are content to relive the halcyon days of click-and-watch puzzle games by loading up the iPhone port. Mike Ando is slightly more… dedicated. He just spent the past six years building a replica of the Cyan game’s signature, Age-traveling link books that includes a full Windows XP PC with a 1.6GHz Atom, a 2-hour battery, a 5-inch touchscreen and every playable game from the Myst series stored on a CF card. And while we’ve seen books hiding devices before, Ando’s attention to detail might just raise the eyebrows of hardcore custom PC and gaming fans alike: he went so far as to gut and emboss a 135-year-old copy of Harper’s New Monthly Magazine to match Cyan’s reference tome as closely as possible. It’s tempting for anyone who cut their teeth on CD-based gameplay through Myst, but perfect devotion to one of the better-known fictional worlds will cost an accordingly steep $15,625. We wouldn’t have minded seeing some real intra-world travel for the cash outlay.

Acer has announced pricing and availability for its second Windows 8 tablet, the Iconia W510, which will hit shelves on November 9 priced from $499.99. Announced back in July at Computex, the Acer Iconia W510 has a 10.1-inch 1,366 x 768 IPS LCD display and runs Windows 8 on Intel’s 1.5GHz dualcore Atom Z2760 Clover Trail processor, rather than the Ivy Bridge Core i3/i5 of its more expensive Iconia W700 sibling.

Your money gets you 2GB of RAM and a choice of 32GB or 64GB of SSD storage, along with a microSD card slot. Other connectivity includes microUSB and micro HDMI, along with WiFi a/b/g/n; there’s also an integrated g-sensor, digital compass, and gyroscope.

Acer is offering the Iconia W510 with a detachable keyboard dock, which not only makes for easier text entry but adds a full-sized USB port. Together, the two are 0.84-inches thick and 2.63 pounds; ditch the dock, however, and it’s down to 0.35-inches thick.

However, if you ignore the keyboard section you also miss out on the add-on battery: alone, the W510 runs for up to nine hours, Acer claims, but that’s extended to 18hrs with the keyboard attached. On the front there’s a 2-megapixel camera – with 1080p video recording – together with an 8-megapixel camera on the back with autofocus and an LED flash.

The Acer Iconia W510 will be priced at $499.99 for the 32GB SSD model, though you don’t get the keyboard dock for that, or  $749.99 for the 64GB version with the dock. There’ll also be an enterprise-focused version, the Acer Iconia W510P, with a Trusted Platform Module and running Windows 8 Pro, priced at $799.99.
