AT&T’s Motorola Atrix HD Gets Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Update

From today onwards, AT&T subscribers who own the Motorola Atrix HD ought to be able to be at peace with themselves after what seemed to have been an agonizingly long wait – their beloved smartphone will finally receive the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update, which means the Motorola Atrix HD would have joined the ranks of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2,the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the HTC One X+ where having the Jelly Bean update is concerned.

Needless to say, there would have been many new features introduced upon the installation of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, where Google Now would be one of the main ones, as it generates real-time notifications on weather, traffic, nearby transit systems, local restaurants and places of interest, flight information, and live sports scores.

This time around, the updated notifications will group together updates from the same application, while you can opt to expand or collapse any notification. The notification window itself has been empowered for you to view the full text of an SMS message, and a full photo via MMS if you so desire. Have you updated your Motorola Atrix HD to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean already? [Press Release]

Motorola Atrix HD Developer Edition phone to arrive with unlockable bootloader

Motorola is starting to ramp up the delivery of its Developer Editions of new smarpthones, with the Motorola Atrix HD Developer Edition being the first of them. To put it in a nutshell for developers, this means you are able to select a device from Motorola’s latest smartphone offerings which will arrive with an unlockable bootloader, allowing you to install custom firmware as well as make the kind of changes which you see as necessary. We do know that Developer Editions of the Droid RAZR M and Droid RAZR HD are already readily available, so it is time for the Motorola Atrix HD Developer Edition to step up to the plate.

There will be, of course, a fair share of caveats to take note of. You will be unable to take advantage of any carrier subsidies on Motorola’s Developer Edition phones, and the most affordable option right now is a $549.99 RAZR M. No idea on how much the unlockable Atrix HD has been priced though. The other thing is this – unlocking the bootloaders on these devices will void your warranty in the process, which is a bummer – don’t you think so?

Motorola reveals Atrix HD Developer Edition, highlights unlockable bootloader

Digging the idea of picking up an Atrix HD, but bummed about that whole “locked bootloader” situation? Problem solved. Motorola has just introduced the Atrix HD Developer Edition, which offers up the exact same specifications as the original, but allows near infinite customizations thanks to an unlockable bootloader. For the laypeople in attendance, that allows tinkerers to install custom ROMs on the phone without any additional hackeration, thus giving them to power to overhaul Android’s look and feel in a major way. As of now, Moto’s not talking pricing or release, but you can follow the source link to sign up for updates. (Oh, and if you’re hoping for a quick turnaround, don’t even think about looking at how long it took the Galaxy S III Developer Edition to finally go on sale.)

Motorola lists phones that won’t get Jelly Bean, offers $100 credit to buy a phone that will

Motorola lists phones that won't get Jelly Bean, offers $100 credit to buy a phone that will

Back in September, Motorola Mobility announced that some of its handsets from 2011 and later wouldn’t be making the jump to Jelly Bean. In an effort to smooth things over with exiled customers, the company pledged that it would offer a $100 rebate to those who trade up to a select Motorola smartphone. Today, the Google-owned Android maker has released a list detailing which phones qualify for this promotion. If you’re among the many who purchased a Droid 3, Droid X2 and Photon 4G, it looks like an official update to Android 4.1 is out of the question. It should be noted that this offer doesn’t affect your wireless contract’s terms and conditions (read: ETF may still apply). However, if you’re just aching to pick up a Motorola phone that released in 2012, then why not score a $100 credit for your troubles? Move past the break to see which other devices made didn’t make the cut.

PowerSkin Motorola Atrix HD battery skin offers additional talk time

When it comes to modern day smartphones, they are able to achieve plenty of tasks on a single device, but the major drawback would be its battery life. Rather, the lack of it. In fact, it is pretty hard for a seasoned road warrior who has push email turned on all the time, being connected to a 3G or 4G LTE network the entire day long, checking plenty of emails while sending out replies in the form of text messages and emails, not to mention handling a plethora of phone calls as well, to have your smartphone last the entire day.

Most of us would wake up with our smartphones attached to a power outlet fully charged, and by the time we hit the sack, our phones would most probably have sent out a warning signal at least once or twice, urging us to get to the nearest power outlet as soon as possible. Well, there are remedies to combat the lack of power, and instead of taking the more bulky route of carrying a power charger with you all the time, how about offering protection for your precious smartphone which also comes with its very own built-in battery to boot? This is where we are headed with the PowerSkin Motorola Atrix HD battery skin.

It is said that the PowerSkin Motorola Atrix HD battery skin is capable of offering the latest Motorola flagship another 220 minutes worth of talk time, now that is value for money when you think about it. After all, the number of minutes translates to more than 3 hours worth of chat time, which can be crucial for those of you who run a business and have plenty of calls to make throughout the entire day. Don’t you just hate it when you need to wrap up that particular conversation, only to have your phone’s battery die on you? With the PowerSkin Motorola Atrix HD battery skin, this particularly sticky situation can be avoided.

The Motorola Atrix HD skin for AT&T basically comes with 1500 mAh of power, including angular corners for improved comfort, and a soft silicone exterior coated with weather-resistant polyurethane and a durable, matte finish that protects against dust, scratches, moisture and grime. It will retail for $69.99 a pop if you are interested.

PowerSkin for Motorola Atrix HD gives added talk time

Don’t you just hate it when you are in the middle of an engaging conversation over the phone and the line gets cut off due to poor signal or the end of your handset’s battery life? You cannot do much about the former other than to change carriers, but even so there is no guarantee. As for a depleted battery, this is where you can intervene with the right kind of accessory. PowerSkin has just announced its latest battery skin for the Motorola Atrix HD, where it is said to be able to offer an extended talk time of up to 220 minutes on a single charge.

Now, the idea of merging a protective case that also carries a battery is not new, but it is always a novelty when a new model that supports a different smartphone comes out. This PowerSkin for the Atrix HD will boast of a new angular design and smooth-touch, weather-resistant coating, coming in a durable, matte finish which will help it shrug off dust, scratches, moisture and grime. It has a 1500 mAh rechargeable battery integrated within, an On/off button and Smart Power Management capability, LED lights which indicate battery level and charge status, all coming in a one-piece, silicone case. The asking price? $69.99 if you are interested.
