Croon Audio’s Original Bluetooth speakers promise not to creak while they’re cranked

Croon Audio's Original Bluetooth speakers promise not to creak while they're cranked

Odds are that we’ve all had a speaker system which can’t take the heat: turn up the volume and there’s an unintentional dubstep remix as the waaahs and wubwubs of distortion and vibration overtake whatever we actually meant to hear. Croon Audio is only just getting into speakers, but its Original system makes clean sound the order of the day: along with the retro, anti-distortion fiberboard design, the Bluetooth audio box has isolation cones at the corners that Croon hopes will leave any shake, rattle and rolling to Big Joe Turner and Bill Haley. That’s good news for a small enclosure with two 15W drivers and a Class D amp inside. A 3.5mm jack still exists if wireless audio compression gets on the nerves as well. The speakers are already selling now in a classic black for $200, although $230 will net a slightly livelier gray or white, and $235 lands an attention-getting (if limited edition) red.

Lil’G Necronombox Bluetooth Speaker: Limbo Blaster

The popularity of mobile music players has given rise to a variety of Bluetooth speakers. Some of them cater to sporty people, others with more modern or minimalist tastes. I guess Josh Marlar went with a, shall we say, ultra niche market: demons.

This is his Necronombox, which Marlar imagines as “the younger brother of the Necronomicon.” He used the blood of the innocent Sculpey, acrylics, Minwax and flat glass marbles to create the terrifying case.

The Necronombox is based on a new Bluetooth speaker called the Lil’G, which by default is meant to look like a boombox and has interchangeable front grills.

The Necronombox can be yours for $400 (USD). If you’re not that desperate to be scared, you might also want to check out the Lil’G’s other one off editions at SpankyStokes.

Nexus Q listed as being out of stock again

A couple of days ago, we reported that the Nexus Q was listed as being in stock in the Google Play store. However it seems that the device might have proven itself to be much more popular than Google had anticipated as it has once again been listed as out of stock. It is unclear if this is due to the device being crazy popular, or if it is because Google did not produce enough as they were still awaiting to see the response of customers. Either way if you wanted the device, you’re out of luck. However popping over to the Google Play store gives customers the opportunity to leave their email addresses whereby Google will notify them when the Nexus Q has been made available again. So, did anyone else expect the Nexus Q to be this popular?

MakerBot Mixtape rolls back the years

Are you old enough to remember what the cassette tape era was like, what with the Sony Walkman and all? Well, MakerBot intends to roll back the years with the Mixtape – an MP3 player which sports 2GB of storage space, the relevant buttons that allows you to hit Play, Pause, Forwards, Backwards, et al, a rechargeable battery that is capable of running for up to four hours on a single charge, a 3.5mm audio jack and a USB cable. Setting it up is a fairly easy and no-brainer process, where the Mixtape will show up as a USB flash drive on your Mac or PC so that you can simply drag and drop MP3s into it.

The main draw of the MakerBot Mixtape would be choice – you are able to print up different colors and designs thanks to your very own 3D printer. Needless to say, we are looking at an infinite amount of possible customizations, which is pretty much similar to the most affordable MP3 player on the market. Basically, the MakerBot Mixtape does not want to see you replace your iPod, but rather, it targets the DIY crowd who want to spend some time for a project to work on as a gift to a family member or friend. The Mixtape Kit can be yours for $25, and just like the Avengers, some assembly is required.

Nexus Q stock sold out

Nexus QIt was just yesterday when we brought you word that the Nexus Q from Google is in stock and available for order, and just like politics, 24 hours is a very long time – and during that time period, it seemed that demand for the Nexus Q was so high, the audio sphere is already out of stock over at Googe Play, now how about that? This hugely positive response is a wave that Google should ride on and make the most out of the situation, although we do wonder whether Google set aside more than enough Nexus Q devices in its initial allotment – if Google had looked at a rather large figure initially, then a case of it being sold out is definitely cause to celebrate, but if there were just a bunch of Nexus Q available for sale to gauge market interest, then the achievement does not seem too notable any more. Well, will you be one of those who are looking forward to installing the Nexus Q in your homes?

Tritton Xbox 360 Warhead 7.1. Surround Sound Headset

When one mentions the word “warhead”, most of the time we would think of a nuclear threat or something in a similar vein. Well, good to know that “warhead” is used in much more peaceful times now, especially so when it comes to gaming – and Mad Catz intends to wow the world with its Tritton Xbox 360 Warhead 7.1. Surround Sound Headset for the Xbox 360 (which can be told via the name alone, obviously). Mad Catz thinks that the Tritton Xbox 360 Warhead 7.1. Surround Sound Headset is the most anticipated product from its stable of devices to date.

First announced at E3 last year, it is being prepared to ship even as you read this, where Mad Catz claims that this is the only Xbox 360 headset in the world that will boast of a truly wireless chat experience. There is no need for you to fumble around with a chat cable, an adapter or dongle in order to talk. Not only that, it boasts of Microsoft’s very own security chip that enables one to directly communicate with the console. Are you looking forward to the Tritton Xbox 360 Warhead 7.1. Surround Sound Headset when it arrives early next month?

MakerBot introduces MixTape Kit to be used with 3D printer

Best known for its 3D printers, it almost seems as if MakerBot is going in the opposite direction of technology with the introduction of its new MixTape Kit. It sounds pretty old school, but the product is actually aimed at those who already own a MakerBot 3D creation machine. MakerBot provides all the tools so that users with a 3D machine can create their own custom tapes from home.

MakerBot has plans offered on the site so that they can be customized and printed out. After that, all you have to do is plug everything in and upload your chosen music. But for people who actually don’t have a MakerBot 3D printer and still want a nice blast from the past, a selection of molded tapes will be available to be ordered directly from the company.

The MakerBot Mixtape has 2 GB of storage and a battery life of about four hours. You can use the controls to play, pause or skip songs and there’s a headphone jack and USB port that comes with it. People who own the MakerBot 3D printer will obviously get the full benefit from it as they’ll be able to completely design and tweak the physical appearance of the case by customizing the 3D design files, but the MixTapes being offered on their own is still kind of a nice touch.

Apple Q3 results fall below expectations despite selling 17 million iPads

Apple logoApple has just announced their financial results for Q3 ended June 30, posting a quarterly revenue of $35 billion and a quarterly net profit of $8.8 billion. Comparing it to a revenue of $28.6 billion and net profit of $7.3 billion in the year-ago quarter, it must be said that international sales make up a whopping 62% of the latest quarter’s revenue. Sounds like impressive figures are being bandied around here, but this is Apple we are talking about here, and those figures translate to an earnings miss which has sent Apple’s stock to drop by over 5% initially. Next-gen iPod touch rumored to feature 4″ display and A5 processor

Earlier today we reported that thanks to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, he reported that come September, there is a good chance that Apple could be launching an all new iPod touch and iPod nano, but what does he mean by that? Well according to the folks at Macotakara, the new iPod touch will feature a similar design to that of the next-gen iPhone, which according to rumors will not only be slimmer, but sport a 4” in-cell display as well. It is also expected to sport a rear-shell similar to the iPad, giving it a buffed finish look as opposed to a shiny finish which is how the current models look like. It is also expected to be powered by the iPhone 4S’ A5 processor. The report is also claiming that there is a hole at the bottom back of the device, although they were unsure as to what its function was. It’s a bit hard to picture what the device could look like based on the information above, so we guess we will have to wait and see if the rumors pan out. So, anyone looking forward to a redesigned iPod touch?
