RHA MA150 Earphones: Lots of Bang for Your Buck

When it comes to earphones, it’s best to have a couple of pairs around because you never know when you’ll lose your favorite pair or you’ll break them. These earbuds offer a surprising good audio response for their price, and are good entry-level, or backup earphones for your favorite pair.

rha ma150 earphones earbuds

RHA MA150 earphones come in a compact eco-friendly package, and you’ll be surprised at the sound that comes from them, with solid bass for their size. The cords are a wee bit thin for my taste, but compared to other headphones in the sub-$25 range, they are definitely something you should look at. The package comes with some adapters to make sure they fit snugly in your ears as well, which is cool for this price.

Frequency response for the RHA MA150 earphones is rated at 16-22,000Hz, with a sensitivity of 103dB. They’re available for $24.95(USD) over at RHA’s website.

Toshiba announces 2013 range of new home theater products

Toshiba announced today its 2013 lineup of home theater and entertainment products, including new televisions, Blu-ray players, and a new service called Cloud TV. The lineup is headlined by the company’s new 9-series Ultra HD televisions and a new service called Cloud TV, which offers on-demand content like Netflix, Vimeo, and YouTube.

Toshiba 65L9363 Series (7)

Toshiba says that the new line of products features a “new design identity,” which includes rounded corners, brushed metal, gloss finishes, and a minimalist aesthetic that makes the new products simple and easy to use. Toshiba says that the new design for its 2013 products will go right along with any modern and contemporary look in a home.

The new 9-series Ultra HD range comes in flavors of 84-inch, 65-inch, and 58-inch screen sizes. Also in the new lineup are 4-series, 6-series, and 7-series lines of new televisions. The 4- and 6-series are the companies new entry models for 2013, which are basic smart TV models that come in either 32-inch or 50-inch screen sizes.

The 7-series is a new line of 3D-enabled smart TVs that come in 40-inch, 50-inch, and 58-inch flavors. As for the new Cloud TV platform, there’s not a lot of information about it at this point, but it’ll essentially be a service that includes a handful of apps, as well as the ability to share content between multiple devices in the home.

Toshiba BDX3400KB (5)

Toshiba also announced three new Blu-ray players, all of which look more or less the same design-wise, but are slightly different from one another. They feature built-in WiFi, 3D playback support, smart TV functionality, including access to YouTube, Netflix, etc., and the design of the new players compliments the new range of televisions nicely as well. No details on pricing or availability, but we should be seeing these new products on the market very soon.

Sonos Black Matte Sub Now Available For $599

Sonos Black Matte Sub Now Available For $599For folks who are familiar with Sonos and some of the devices that they have on offer, chances are pretty good that you are familiar with Sonos’ decision to cease all production of the matte black SUB. Well, needless to say when Sonos started to plan for the SUB product, their in-house estimates pointed out the fact that the Matte SUB would be a whole lot more affordable to produce compared to the gloss SUB. Throughout the manufacturing process, Murphy decided to strike, as Sonos discovered that this was not the case. Other than that, the gloss finish is said to have been been well-received by their customers, and to rub salt into the wound, the gloss finish continues to be in high-demand.

Well, Sonos is a company with principles, and they have every intention of fulfilling their commitment to long time Sonos owners by offering the Sonos Black Matte Sub at the same price that was originally attached to it in the announcement, which would be $599/€599/£499, depending on which side of the pond you float on. Quantities are said to be extremely limited, so be quick if you want one!

Toa Mata Band Done Up In LEGO

LEGO bricks still evoke a sense of awe and wonder for some folks out there, and so the same can be said of Italian music producer Giuseppe Acito. It seems that Acito has managed to use his love for LEGO bricks as well as acumen in music to come up with what he calls the “Toa Mata Band”, which is actually made up of a few small robotic LEGO figures that have been specially programmed in order to play a range of instruments.

You can more or less say that individual “members” of the band have been constructed from LEGO Bionicle pieces that have been endowed with rubber bands and pulleys in the right places. Their arms will receive instruction from an Arduino Uno that is hooked up to an iPad that has Nord Beat, a MIDI sequencer app, running on it. These small robotic figures can roll out a MIDI sequence when prompted, which means it does pre-programmed tunes as well as impromptu ones if a human is around to add commands to the MIDI sequence in real-time. This is a one-of-a-kind LEGO product out there, so don’t bother looking for another.

Spotify lifts the five-play cap per track for free listening in the UK

Spotify lifts the fiveplay cap on free listening in the UK

There’s been a Sword of Damocles looming for months over Spotify’s free tier: after a reprieve, some listeners past the six-month trial phase have been capped at five plays per track. Spotify must not want to kill the joy of a favorite album, as it’s lifting that cap for UK members. Like most of their friends on the platform, Brits now just have to cope with the usual ads and 10-hour monthly cap if they’re not keen on paying for a subscription. With only the French apparently left facing the five-play limit — qu’est-ce que c’est l’obstacle? — it’s clear that Spotify sees value in softening the hard sell for its paid service.

Bowers & Wilkins unveils new Z2 and updated Zeppelin Air music systems

Bowers & Wilkins has unveiled two new wireless music systems including an updated Zeppelin Air and the new Z2. B&W says that both of these products offer exemplary sound quality and support Apple AirPlay wireless streaming. Both of the products also feature the Lighting connector for the iPhone 5.

bw-zepp

The Z2 will come in black or white finishes and has a design that promises to fit almost anywhere in your home or office. Since the device has a Lighting connector, users can dock the iPhone 5 as well as other iPhone and iPad models. The music system features Bowers & Wilkins proprietary Flowport technology for tight, controlled bass performance.

The updated Zeppelin Air now has a Lightning connector to support the iPhone 5. It seems the only change in the updated Zeppelin Air and previous models comes in the addition of that iPhone 5 Lighting connector. The audio device does still support other iPhone, iPod, and iPad models.

Bowers & Wilkins will offer the new Z2 in black starting in April within the UK for £329.99. The white Z2 will launch in June carrying the same price tag. The updated Zeppelin Air will also launch in June with a retail price of £499.99.

Retro-looking Kendall Speakers Adds A Touch Of Modernity With Bluetooth

Retro looking Kendall Speakers Adds A Touch Of Modernity With BluetoothWhile retro looking gadgets or fashion items seem to be the rage these days, unfortunately old school gadgets and electronics tend to be either broken, or are not able to perform as well as their modern counterpart. However if you are looking for a set of speakers that looks vintage but can perform like a modern day speaker does, then the Kendall Bluetooth speaker by Furni could be what you are looking for, assuming that you are willing to spend $188 on it, of course. As you can see in the image above, the Kendall speaker looks like a radio set back in the day and is made with a solid walnut casing, but underneath that vintage exterior lies 2×5 watt class “D” amplifiers, 2” full range speakers and a 1,000mAh battery that Furni claims should last a good four hours on a single charge. As its name implies, the Kendall speaker will also feature Bluetooth connectivity so you will be able to pair your smartphone, tablet or even laptop with it while on the go. So, any takers?

Triolin Delivers Three Times The Thrill

Triolin Delivers Three Times The ThrillNo, you would not be mistaken for figuring out that the Triolin is a combination of three, well, violins. Artist Alex Sobolev is the one behind the Triolin, where he managed to bring together a trio of violins, and joining them together. Alex intends to challenge the notion that the violin is an instrument for soloists, where the Triolin was created in order to encourage its players to go beyond visual and aural communication, and this is executed through the creation of a space which requires direct physical interaction.

I am no musician myself, as the only keyboard that I can play is the QWERTY keyboard, but can someone out there with a musical ear and having had experiences with the violin before tell me whether it is possible for the three violinists to play a tune simultaneously? After all, musicians tend to move their heads and bodies in rhythm with the tunes that they play, so it would be rather awkward to see that setting play out with the Triolin. What do you think?
