SurfSound-PLAY waterproof speaker from Pyle Audio

surfsoundHow is your summer so far, for those of you who happen to live in the northern hemisphere, anyways? Is it all fun in the sunshine, and what kind of trips have you embarked upon with your family and friends, or heck, even done some solo adventuring? Well, other than good food on your travels, it is obvious that having the right kind of music can also help put you into the mood – as music is food for the soul. The thing is, not all consumer electronics devices were created equal, and that includes speakers and smartphones, which is why Pyle Audio has embarked on something which is slightly different – the SurfSound-PLAY waterproof speaker which we will describe in greater detail right after the jump.

Pyle Audio made their name as a manufacturer of outdoor recreational sports gear and home, car and pro audio equipment, which is why the SurfSound-PLAY waterproof speaker delivers something out of the ordinary. It happens to be a lightweight, user-friendly speaker case which is capable of delivering the full functionality of connected devices without batting an eyelid. Imagine taking your iPod, an old school MP3 player, or even a modern day smartphone and transforming it into a portable waterproof audio device. That would certainly lift your spirits when you are getting a nice, balanced tan on the beach, and want something other than the awful techno music which is being filtered over by the hotel’s speakers. Why not share your eclectic musical taste with the other guests instead?

Apart from playing back music alone, the SurfSound-PLAY case is also full well capable of handling video playback as well as answer calls, all for $68.99 a pop in white, black or blue colors if you are interested. Just how tough is it? Well, it has been specially engineered to be IPX-7 waterproof (up to 3.3ft) and dustproof, while an innovative plug-and-play interface allows you to play music on land or in water, with a clear plastic screen protector that comes with UV surface treatment, without sacrificing on the touchscreen capabilities of your device.

Weye Feye lets you use your phone to control your DSLR

weye-feye

When shooting pictures, there are plenty of times where it would be much easier to snap the shot while standing somewhere apart from the camera. Whether it’s because the camera is at an odd angle, or you’re needing to constantly adjust your subject, it would be nice to have a remote for your camera. Some newer ones have this functionality built-in. However, if you have an older DSLR, you’re going to need a little extra help.

The Weye Feye (Yes, I’m pretty sure that’s pronounced the same as Wi-Fi, and no, it’s not clever.) attaches to your camera via USB, and creates a Wi-Fi network. You can then connect to this network with your smartphone or tablet up to 80′ away. What’s great is that you can do more than activate the shutter. You’ll be able to watch a live feed of what your camera sees, to make sure that you’ve got a perfect shot. And if you’re worried about lag, the latency is only around 0.2 seconds, which is pretty impressive.

If you don’t like what you’re seeing on your screen, you’re actually going to have access to many of the manual controls of the camera, to tweak things such as ISO aperture and shutter speed. Once you’ve taken a few shots, you can then go back through and see what’s on the camera, to determine whether or not you need to take a few more. The Weye Feye doesn’t come cheap though. You’ll be looking at around $332 when it comes out next month.

Front and Rear Recording Dash Cam captures both points of view

front-and-rear-dash-cam

When you’re driving in your car, the last thing you ever want is to get in a wreck. Good, defensive driving helps avoid collisions, but sometimes things are completely out of your hands. In those cases, it’s good to have a recording of what happened, in case there is a dispute over the fault of the accident. Dash cams have become increasingly popular in the last few years, but they really only capture one point of view. If you’re hit from the rear, that’s not going to be seen. What you need is a cam that can look both directions.

As its name implies, this Front and Rear Recording Dash Cam is going to record more than one perspective. It doesn’t actually have to only face front and rear, though. The unit features two separate lenses, which can each be rotated 180 degrees. If you want, you could have one facing out each side window, or any combination, really. There’s even a display on the front to show you what’s being recorded, so that you know you’ve got the cameras angled just the way you want.

The camera will need to stay plugged into your cigarette lighter to stay powered up, and it comes with a 4GB microSD memory card, which will keep about 2 hours worth of footage. It will accept cards up to 32GB in size, for up to 16 hours of recording. If you want one of these for your car, you’ll be looking at spending around $200.

Sound Band lets you listen to music, and still hear the world around you

Sound-band

There are plenty of times when you want to listen to music, but you don’t want to disturb the people around you. This, of course, is why things like headphones and earbuds were invented. However, by design, there are situations where you simply cannot use them safely. These are times when you need to still be able to hear the world around you, such as when you’re riding a bike. What you need is a way to privately listen to music that will still let you hear your surroundings.

Sound Band is a new headset that is aimed to deliver audio into your head, without covering your ears, and blocking out other sounds. It’s able to do this because it doesn’t use conventional speakers to project sound waves. Instead, it uses surface sound technology to transmit the sound waves through the bone and tissue in your head. This results in you hearing the same sounds as you would through conventional speakers, but only the wearer is able to do so.

The Sound Band will connect wirelessly to your music player via Bluetooth, meaning that you won’t need to bother with long messy cables. Unfortunately this does mean that they will need recharged after roughly 5 hours of use. The Kickstarter fund has already surpassed its goal in just a few short days, but you can still pledge $125 and get your own set when they ship out in December.

Kick provides versatile lighting for your photography needs

One of the most important things about photography is having the right light. Even with the best camera, your pictures will turn out terrible if you have poor lighting. On the other hand, perfect lighting can make even a snapshot from your phone look great. The obvious solution is to invest in a nice flash, but what if you need something other than just white light flashed at your subject? Sometimes you need a device that can provide a range of different colors, and until now, that’s been very difficult to come across.

The Kick is probably one of the most versatile lights that I’ve come across. Using rows of LEDs, you’re able to shine white light onto your subject, just as you would with a regular flash. However, once you’ve paired it with a smartphone, you’re able to do so much more. First, you can simply change the temperature of the light by using some of the presets in the app. Want to create a specific mood with different colors? You can go into the color picker and select virtually any color that you want to shine.

If video is your thing, the Kick has plenty to offer there, as well. Let’s say that you have a character that’s sitting by a fire. Obviously, you’ll want to see the effect of the fire’s light on the person and the room. You can actually load up footage of a fire, and it will shine light accordingly. Another example used was flashing lighting during a thunderstorm. The possibilities are endless. If you need to add some color to your photos and video, you can pick one of these up for $179.

Sports Analyst’s Camcorder

When it comes to sports, I really admire those photographers who have fantastic equipment to go along with their skill – especially when they capture those immortal moments of sporting glory, such as Muhammad Ali knocking someone out, or Mike Tyson biting Evander’s ear off. How about Roger Federer picking up his first French Open title? Well, if you are your son’s biggest fan on the soccer field, then you might want to get the $1,200 Sports Analyst’s Camcorder as part of your parenthood arsenal – after all, you would not want to miss your son’s match winning goal, do you?

Not only that, regaling such a tale to your family and friends are not going to make the cut, unless they see for themselves. This is what the Sports Analyst’s Camcorder does – it will be able to capture slow motion video, while sending it sans wires to a tablet computer, and coaches and athletes are able to analyze the performance. Of course, parents with dough to spare can do that, too, as mom records the young tyke, while dad does the analysis. This camcorder is capable of shooting high-speed video at up to 600 frames-per-second, sporting a 900% higher frame rate compared to your everyday camcorder, with the ability to play back super slow motion video that makes it useful to know where one has gone wrong in a golf swing, ball kick, or baseball pitch. Hardware underneath the hood includes a back-illuminated 1/2.3″ 12.8 megapixel CMOS image sensor and a wide angle F1.2 lens, 10X optical zoom, optical image stabilization, and the ability to record video in 1920 x 1080p high-definition video at 60 fps.

ShutterBall helps you take the perfect shot with your phone

Over the last decade, it has become standard for virtually everyone to carry a camera in their pocket. Sure, your cell phone might not take the most impressive pictures in the world, but they’re pretty good for taking everyday shots. Unfortunately since most phones are touchscreens these days, it’s really hard to tap the spot that controls the shutter. Some phones do have a dedicated button on the side, but even that can be hard to reach, depending on how you’re holding it. What’s worse is that when you do try and hit the button, you often move the whole camera, resulting in a blurry shot. What if you were able to control the camera from another simple device?

The ShutterBall is a simple gadget that controls the shutter on your Android or iOS device. It connects via Bluetooth, so it can be used up to 60 feet away. Since it’s shaped like a small ball, you can cup it in the palm of your hand as you pose for your next profile pic, and give it a squeeze. Or, you can set your phone down, if you want to be in a group shot, and with a click, make sure that you’ve got the perfect photo.

The ShutterBall uses a coin cell battery, and has a 5-year battery life. Unfortunately we do not currently have information on pricing or availability.

JBL WR2.4 headphones introduced

When it comes to the world of headphones, making a particular purchase decision is not all that easy. After all, there are so many models to choose from, and you do not want to end up forking out money for something that does not offer as much bang for your buck as you wished. Well, one name that I am quite sure is able to serve up decent value for money would be JBL, and one of their latest headphones would be the JBL WR2.4. Of course, right off the bat, most folks would notice that the JBL WR2.4 headphones is missing the cord, which is an all too common feature in majority of the headphones out there, leading us to only one conclusion – this is a wireless device which will hopefully live up to the family name.

In a nutshell, without a cable to tether the JBL WR2.4 headphones to a compatible music playback device, you will be able to enjoy untethered freedom to move around, as long as the headphones remain within range, that is. We are looking at approximately 100 feet (30 meters) of reception range, while the nuilt-in rechargeable batteries will let you extend freedom from the AC outlet, too, delivering up to eight hours of continuous playtime.

Apart from wireless convenience, the JBL WR2.4 headphones have also been specially designed to be comfortable to wear, too. It is lightweight in nature, and comes with generously sized padded cups as well as a fully adjustable headband. This would allow you to wear the wireless headphones without suffering from fatigue or feeling hot between the head despite wearing it for an extended period of time. The WR2.4 headphones comes with semi-closed back acoustics to deliver naturally enhanced sound quality via their 18 Hz to 20 kHz sound range, while it has an uncompromising 2.4 GHz digital bandwidth for reception that remains untainted by transmission noise, sporting 32-ohm impedance to deliver a wide range of listening volumes.
