Rechargeable Speakers with a Twist

If memory serves I was gifted my first pair of portable speakers. And boy have I used the heck out of them. I never thought of all the uses prior to the kind gift: tunes at the desk or in the kitchen, watching movies on the tablet or movie. And boy, were they a life saver on the road. No road warrior should be without a set. But toting batteries with you is inconvenient. iHome, makers of various a/v products, added a couple twists to the portable speaker concept that is worth a look.

The iHM62, $49.96 on Amazon, brings practicality and fun to the world of portable speakers. These collapsible speakers come with a 2 in 1 cable enabling charge from a USB device and output via standard 3.5mm audio plug. The lithium ion battery will get you 2 hours of playback – enough to typically get you back to a power source. The vacuum bass design gives hearty volume and bass too. But the fun angle of these speakers is the fact they change color – green, red, blue, yellow. Single color and color fade modes also exist if you are not in the mood for changing color. With the collapsible, handheld design and a carry pouch the iHM62 travels well too. You know you need portable speakers, why not make them rechargeable? And add a little color to your life at the same time.

Paparazzo: iPhone Flash-tastic for both Pics and Video

The iPhone is far from perfect, but I have to admit its a pretty handy tool. I remember not so long ago that I often missed out on pictures or video of a whole host of things, from my daughters first steps, to an amazing bar fight and what to this day, I swear was an alien abduction. I simply didnt have a camera with me. Now that I have an iPhone I am prepared. I just wish the flash was a little more, well, professional.

Check out the Paparazzo concept, designed with fun in mind, the Paparazzo was meant to pick up where your stand alone iPhone leaves off. With a retro look and feel this flash accessory is easy to use and will give you professional results not only in your front and rear facing picture taking, but in your video shots as well.

With a 300 Lumen LED, you can even adjust the light for both your photos and your videos from zero to full brightness, using only what you need and avoiding dreaded flash washout (ever have an iPhone pic where your intended has no discernible nose?) simply dial the light up or down for your photo or video from zero to full bright and don’t worry about killing your battery, the Paparazzo packs its own.

Yes, the Paparazzo can be used with almost any standard tripod and it has three modes dedicated to photo, video, or brightness adjustments which can be easily selected with the push of a button. Developers are working on an integrated app and one that is compatible with the iPhone 5. It’s just a concept for now, but if you like the idea you need to let them know at paparazzolight.com. You can count me in, just for the movie light alone.

LG Tone+ Bluetooth stereo headset for clearer conversations

When it comes to Bluetooth headsets, are all of them the same? LG begs to differ, what with their LG Tone+ Bluetooth stereo headset (HBS-730) hoping to change the way things work in the industry. After all, you can more or less say that the LG Tone+ Bluetooth stereo headset does have its fair share of pedigree to call upon, considering how it is the successor to the original, the LG Tone, otherwise known as the HBS-700. One of the main key features in the LG Tone+ would be its support for VoLTE (Voice over LTE) calls, allowing one to carry out conversations in High Definition (HD) sound between VoLTE-capable devices.

Paul Bae, Vice President of Marketing Center of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company, said, “LG was the world’s first company to demonstrate VoLTE technology and announce a VoLTE smartphone. And today, we are still at the forefront of efforts to advance the commercialization of VoLTE as a follow up to the global expansion of LTE. In order to provide our customers with a superior user experience over 4G networks, LG will continue to raise the bar on all its mobile products, including accessories that support LTE and VoLTE.”

The LG Tone+ is said to deliver enhanced audio quality with a number of improvements compared to its predecessor. The extended bass register of the LG Tone+ will help increase the available sound range, while delivering a perceptibly improved audio experience which ought to keep audiophiles happy. Bear in mind that this is LG’s claim, and we will just have to test it out for ourselves in order to know just whether it can live up to its reputation.

The inclusion of a Bluetooth Multi-connection function allows the LG Tone+ to hook up to two smartphones or to smartphone and other multimedia device, where either way, it is done immediately. The Audible Pairing Assistance feature lets you know of the connection status when another device is connected, and Vibrating Call Alert helps the user be aware of incoming calls.

The talk and standby times of the LG Tone+ is said to have been extended to 15 and 500 hours, respectively, where it will arrive in South Korea, the United States and China by the end of September in two color combinations. Pricing details have yet to be determined though.

Zooka – Let’s Get Loud!

I try not to spend a bunch of time dwelling on the negative, but if I do try and think of the downside of some of my newer technology I keep coming up with this… I hate to wear headphones. Yes, I can appreciate the big sound that a great pair of phones can give me, but sometimes I just want to lay my device down and have some awesome background music without having to have anything stuck in my ears. There, I said it… I hate headphones.

Well check out Zooka, another nifty Kickstarter project that hit the ground running and is now available. Zooka is a portable Bluetooth speaker for your iPad, iPhone, laptop or smartphone, and this speaker sets itself apart from the crowd in that it both magnifies and enhances the quality of the sound and unlike most speakers, this baby “hugs” your device making it one seriously ergonomic external speaker option especially for those on the go, and it looks great too!

I know what I want for Christmas!

Turtle Beach has new headsets for the Nintendo Wii U

When it comes to gaming audio, you know for sure that the name Turtle Beach has been right there from the early days when sound cards were considered to be a luxury on your computer, and many folks (such as yours truly) who lacked the kind of monetary resources would just have to make do with the standard PC speaker which frankly, had a far less vocal range compared to even R2-D2. Well, Turtle Beach does seem to be still around these days, and no longer are they producing sound cards for computers, but rather, still being involved in the audio arena. The Nintendo Wii U, a next generation console from Nintendo, has yet to be introduced, but Turtle Beach has already announced their officially licensed headsets, the Ear Force NLa and Ear Force N11.

The two pairs of headsets were specially created in collaboration with Nintendo of Japan, where they intend to deliver to Wii U gamers a pair of solid entry level headsets without breaking the bank. Steve Singer, Vice President of Licensing, Nintendo of America Inc., said, “We are very excited to be working with Turtle Beach to launch the N11 and NLa for the new Wii U. We look forward to fans having a high quality audio experience with our newest console.”

Unlike your Nokia handsets, however, these will not come in a bunch of merry colors. Instead, they will be available in both black and white shades only, presumably to go along with what the Wii U will be launched in.

The Ear Force NLa is the ideal headset for Nintendo gamers who want high-fidelity audio and superior comfort, where it merges high-fidelity stereo game audio and crystal-clear communication in a sleek, lightweight and durable design. Other features include in-line volume control and noise-isolating ear cushions, while those who tend to be on-the-go will find that the NLa’s 4-pole connector can be easily disconnected from the Wii U GamePad and hook up to portable devices such as the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo DS in a jiffy.

The Ear Force NLa and Ear Force N11 will retail for $34.95 and $49.95, respectively, as they arrive in the market later in the fourth quarter of this year.

Sound Bed helps you doze off with your favorite music

Some of us require complete silence before we retire for the night, so much so that even a pin drop can be heard. As for others, we do need to have some sort of background noise that could prove comforting, such as creaking of the wooden floor, the slow turning fan that emits that squeaky sound with each revolution of its blades on the ceiling, the sound of crickets and their all night symphony, or simply your favorite recording artist belting out his/her/their hit tunes over a speaker. If you fall under the last mentioned category, then Time4sleep’s effort with the Sound Bed certainly sounds like a winner in our books. We shall take a closer look at what the Sound Bed is able to offer to sleepers who want some background music as they grab some shuteye.

Time4sleep’s new and innovative bed frame will not only make sure you get a peaceful night’s sleep, but it also doubles up as a private sound system to boot. Called the Sound Bed, it will merge modern design alongside technology in order to deliver an original and comfortable music centre. This particular idea can be said to be inspired by the rise in the demand for TV beds, so Time4sleep figured out that there is probably a market for music lovers.

The Sound Bed range will come in Single, Double and King Size form factors, and it works great whether you are an adult or a little kid. Each Sound Bed comes finished in stone white bonded leather, ensuring that this particularly neutral color is able to be compatible with all kinds of décor and tastes.

Jonathan Warren, Time4sleep owner said “This bed frame allows anyone to have their own private music station. Adaptable for any MP3 player, including iPods, iPhones and iPads – the Sound Bed makes it easy to just plug in and play!”

All the relevant controls and speakers themselves are located on a control panel on the side of the headboard, where it comprises of 2 speakers and a sub-woofer (which is located at the bottom if the headboard) for that added thump of bass.

Let Soloshot Be the Cameraman

Anyone who is into sports knows that seeing yourself on video does 2 things: 1) embarrasses the heck out of you, and 2) really shows places where you can improve. OK, so it also means an archive of memories. Whether a solo sport like surfing, ice skating or car racing or a team sport like baseball or football it seems like little adjustments to movements and actions can sometimes make the difference between winning and losing. And keeping memories of the events are priceless. Yet how often can we draft a friend or family member to stand there and film us? And how reliable are they? Will they follow you or get into a conversation with people around them? Next thing you know you have 30 minutes of video focused on the ground.

Soloshot is your new best friend when it comes to improving your skills or even just videotaping games.  Invented by surfers, Soloshot consists of an elastic armband with a remote transmitter and a base unit with receiver. It even comes with a professional tripod attached to the unit, though you can detach and affix to any tripod, camera or video camera with a 3/8” screw.  Attach the armband to the person you want to follow, start the camera and Soloshot takes over, following the armband – even up to 360°. Both units are durable and the armband is even waterproof. The unit has a 2000 foot range. Both the receiver and armband have rechargeable batteries that will get you 5+ hours of use too. And if you are nervous about leaving your camera or video camera on its own, not to worry. Soloshot enables you to lock your camera to the unit with a standard luggage lock. Then just lock the entire unit to a stationary object.

The entire Soloshot system – armband, receiver, tripod and charger – is $479, certainly cheaper than the discomfort of hoisting up the camera for the entire BMX race or the guilt you feel leaving your friend with your camera while you hit the waves. So whether you or a member of your family are the active ones, check out Soloshot for a hassle free way to capture the action on video.
