Beard My Baby 2.0 App: Because Every Baby Needs a Beard

So not every baby needs to look like ZZ Top, but it’s fun to see them plastered with a huge beard on their faces. Not with a real mustache, of course, because they’ll probably tug at it with a vengeance, but with a virtual mustache added digitally to their photos using the soon-to-be-released Beard My Baby 2.0 app.

Beard my BabyEnd infant beardlessness in your household by signing up to get the app when it hits.

It’s a novelty app that you’ll probably use a couple of times at the beginning and eventually forget about, but hey, by that time, your baby will probably be all grown up and have grown some actual facial hair of his (or her?) own.

You can get the app by making a pledge of $1 on Beard My Baby’s Kickstarter page by February 5, 2013. Pledge $25 or more to get a stylin’ shirt along with the app.

UCSD's robot baby appears, is happy, sad, a little creepy

Development on the UCSD‘s Diego-san has been underway for several years and now the robot child is read for his first home movie. The bot is being constructed to better understand the cognitive development of children, with a camera behind each eye recording (and learning from) human interactions around it. There are 27 moving parts in the face alone and Diego-san is able to replicate a whole gamut of emotions — and give us shivers as he does. We’ve got some unerringly realistic footage right after the break.

Twitter Parody Accounts Hail the Eventual Arrival of the #royalbaby

So it’s official: Prince William and Kate are having a baby. To some, it’s great news. To the curious, it’s information worth knowing. To the vast population, it’s merely news that doesn’t have anything to do with them. But among this latter group exists a smaller group who make it their business to talk about it anyway: Twitter parody accounts.

Royal TwitterIf you’re active on Twitter, then chances are you’ve seen a couple of these accounts and might even be following some of them.

They’re mostly there for comic relief when you need it. With the lack of mockable news lately, it’s only to be expected that most of them will leech onto news of Kate’s pregnancy:

World, Meet Baby Hashtag; Hashtag, Meet the World!

The first act of cruelty that some parents inflict on their children is giving them weird names or names that they can never live down. For example, magician Penn Jillette named his daughter Moxie Crimefighter. There’s also that actor, Jason Lee, who named his son Pilot Inspektor.

Another name to add to the list is Hashtag. Hashtag Jameson.

Apparently, her parents have a thing for Twitter and they decided to take it out on express it through her. Ironically, the parents announced Hashtag’s unusual name on Facebook. Go figure.

We can’t really verify that they did name their kid Hashtag, but we’re hoping that it’s some kind of joke. Either way, people on Twitter have already begun reacting to the news, which eventually gave rise to the creation of hashtags like #Foolishparents, #YourParentsHateYou, and #StupidestNameEver.

While Baby Rests, A Creative Parent Comes out to Play

Babies. What’s not to love? They coo, they cry, and while they might throw the occasional tantrum or pee all over you without warning, the smile that they’ll give you at the end of the day makes everything worth it.

Babies are a lot of work, and I’m not talking about the part where you make them. So when they’re resting, it’s understandable that this is when the parents come out to play – only not in the way you’d think they would.

Napping BabyYou might have different ideas when I say play, but when it comes to photographer and artist Adele Enersen, ‘play’ means having fun with her kid Vincent by doodling all over his photos. Now it’s time for mom to have some fun at her son’s expense, and the results couldn’t be cuter.

Amazing and Adorable: 4D Scan Shows a Fetus Yawning in the Womb

Medical imaging’s come a long way in the past few decades—but it’s now so good that doctors can use it to tell the difference between a baby opening its mouth and it yawning. More »

Baby Mop Lets You Put Your Little Bundle of Joy to Work

My sister’s baby crawls around so much that the floor looks infinitely cleaner and shinier by the time she’s all crawled out.

Someone else must’ve apparently noticed this with their own babies, because why else would they come up with something as silly and amusing as the Baby Mop romper?

Baby Mop

It looks just like a regular onesie at first glance, but check out the front and you’ll see that it has some super-absorbent cleaning pads attached in strategic locations. Set your baby on the floor dressed in this romper and get ready to have your floors buffed and polished, baby-style.

I mean, why waste all that free baby labor, right?

All kidding aside, this would make a fun present for baby showers and will definitely elicit a whole lot of laughs from your family and friends.

You can get them here for $40 a pair.

Freaky Baby Monster Dolls Will Make You Never Want to Have Kids

If there’s one thing that’s for sure, it’s that you can find some really odd stuff if you dig around deep enough over on Etsy. For instance, while I was searching for some zombie-related items, I came across this monstrosity.

zombie baby

These creeptastic, realistic baby dolls are made by Washington state artist Bean Shanine of The Twisted Beanstalk Nursery, and they’re sure to give you some freaky dreams if you so much as look into their dead eyes. In addition to the “reborn” zombie baby above, you can also find in her shop a Twilight vampire baby, complete with fangs and red eyes.

If you’re into this kind of freaky stuff, then you can “adopt” one of these babies over on Etsy for about $650(USD). Oh, and be sure to buy some formula to feed it with. Be sure to check out more of Bean’s creepy babies over on her website.

Mechanized Steerable Stroller: Baby’s First Mech

We’ve featured a couple of cool and geeky baby strollers, but Xandon Frogget’s creation trumps them all: a stroller that can drive itself around, or let an adult or toddler steer it themselves, but still avoid obstacles. Because your baby can’t argue his way out of a ticket.

mechanized stroller by xandon frogget

The mechanized stroller is equipped with two Kinect sensors, one facing forward and the other facing backwards. The sensors scan for surrounding obstacles and relay their scouting data to a computer, which then controls the wheelchair motors that drive the wheels. In the demo video below the computer in question is a Nook Color and the steering implement is a Wii controller on a steering wheel attachment.

You can order the other components or an entire mechanized stroller from Frogget’s website. Expect to pay $2,500-$3,500 (USD). It’s expensive, but according to Frogget the wheelchair motors can support up to 300lbs., so perhaps, when the baby – and the neighbors – are asleep, mommy or daddy can take a ride on it and imagine they’re piloting a mech.

Marvel’s Superheroes Were Babies, Once Upon a Time

Superheroes were once babies, too. And it’s about time Marvel showed the whole world what they were probably like, via Skottie Young’s awesomely-rendered covers for the Marvel NOW! titles.

This is Skottie’s second batch of covers and he does a pretty bang-up job as usual, as you can see below.

Marvel Superheroes BabiesMomma Captain America seems pretty uptight, doesn’t she? This batch of variant covers features Punisher, Deadpool, Medusa, the Thing, and more as tiny and uber-adorable tots – each of who will eventually grow into some of the best crime-fighting superheroes the world has ever seen.
