Road Hog Update For Bad Piggies

road hog Road Hog Update For Bad PiggiesYou know something? The Angry Birds franchise from Rovio is truly a phenomenal force to be reckoned with. After all, it has made an appearance across all major mobile operating system platforms, and we even heard earlier this morning that Angry Birds Star Wars too, will be making its way to the BlackBerry 10 platform that is set to be announced later today in a New York City event. Having said that, how about playing on the green side, that of the piggies? Bad Piggies, as it has been called, will soon be on the receiving end of an update. We do wonder, though, whether there is as much mileage for Bad Piggies as compared to the Angry Birds franchise, and I guess that only time will tell.

Bad Piggies’ upcoming update, Road Hog, was teased in a Twitter update from Rovio, where the image shown depicted a porcine racer who is more than happy to wave a checkered flag, while the words “Coming Soon” trail right behind. Could it be some sort of karting title? Doubtful, as it will most probably require more brains than brawn to win all the levels in the physics-based puzzler. Hopefully, it should be enough to keep you occupied, at least until the next update.

Bad Piggies Hits #1 in App Store in Just 3 Hours

Rovio is well-known as the developer and publisher of the insanely popular video game Angry Birds. This week, the company launched a new game called Bad Piggies that is told from the pigs point of view.

bad piggies

The game launched for the iPhone and Android platforms. The game proved so popular on iOS, that it only took three hours for Bad Piggies to take the top spot in the United States App Store. The game is really amusing and has players attempting to build contraptions to help the pigs escape the wrath of the Angry Birds.

If you want to try this game out for yourself, there are versions of the app available for download on the App Store for iPhone and iPad, and Mac as well as on Google Play for Android. It’s a very fun game, I gave it a try yesterday and it’s surprisingly challenging.

Bad Piggies available for a smashing good time

Rovio must be keeping their fingers crossed that Bad Piggies would be able to carry forward the momentum that was generated by the Angry Birds franchise, propelling it to new heights. This time around, you are on the side of the green pigs, attempting to smash your way through the birds’ defenses in order to have a taste of their delicious eggs. Bad Piggies is available for iOS, Android, Mac, and PC – so owners of BlackBerry devices, you are out of luck this time round. And in the foreseeable future, too.

Bad Piggies is set on Piggy Island (how imaginative), where the Bad Piggies are hungry for more eggs. They will require your help in constructing the ultimate flying machine, steering it safely to their destination as they indulge in cholesterol laden eggs. Why not just start a chicken farm? I guess there is not much fun in that. Are you going to spend the next few days trying out all 60 plus levels with free updates for Bad Piggies in tow? It would be cool that Bad Piggies get the equivalent of a Mighty Eagle, and all I can think of right now is a Hulk cameo that smashes everything in his path.

Petri Järvilehto, EVP of Games, said, “We’ve never done anything like this. Where Angry Birds was all about destruction, Bad Piggies is all about the joy of construction. It’s not just about getting three stars — in this game, failing is almost as much fun as succeeding!” [Press Release]

When in Helsinki, or rather Espoo, there’s only one thing left to do after stopping by Nokia’s glass House — visit Rovio’s HQ. That’s right, the company made famous (and filthy rich) by flinging fowl is just a short walk away from Elop and co.’s waterside domain. And, in a bit of perfect timing, we were graciously welcomed into the gaming outfit’s office on the eve of its Bad Piggies launch. As you might expect and hope, the walls, doors, floors, couches, desks, soft drinks and even bottles of hand lotion are adorned in all things Angry Birds. There’s even a mock-up experience store — populated with a variety of branded paraphernalia — sitting pretty in pale green just outside a bank of cubicles. It’s everything we ever imagined it to be. But don’t just take our words for it. You can check it out for yourself in a video after the break. And now, we’re really Finnish(ed).

Angry Birds sequel ‘Bad Piggies’ launches tomorrow, we go hands-on

Angry Birds sequel 'Bad Piggies' launches today on iPad, we go handson

Finnish game studio Rovio went from relatively unknown to center stage with the Angry Birds franchise. And in record time, too — the first Angry Birds landed on Apple’s iOS App Store in December 2009, less than three years ago, and has since become an international sensation. The birds spawned a flock of sequels, branded tie-ins, and tons of merchandise. All this adds up to quite a bit of chicken scratch for Rovio, and also quite a bit of pressure to keep the money train rolling.

Today marks Rovio’s first true sequel to the original Angry Birds, and it’s focused on the other side of the farm: the pigs. Enter Bad Piggies. Unlike Angry Birds, Bad Piggies isn’t about flinging anything towards a complicated structure in order to knock it down. Instead, it’s about moving one very green, goofy sounding pig to various points on a map to collect items and reach a goal — it’s much more Cut the Rope than Angry Birds. The same physics-based game mechanics are at play in Bad Piggies that made both Cut the Rope and Angry Birds so popular, and they’re just as fun in this time around. But how do you get said piggy to the goals? You build a contraption, of course.

Each level starts with a build section, allowing players to create all types of vehicles in order to transport the pig from point A to point B (while grabbing collectibles along the way). Only a small handful of build options are available, keeping Bad Piggies just as speedy of a game — to pick up and play while commuting or while waiting at the dentist’s office — as its wildly successful progenitor. It’s hard to say if Bad Piggies will recapture the success that Rovio found with Angry Birds proper, but all the hallmarks are there: quick, fun gameplay, colorful characters, goofy sounds, and accessibility (we couldn’t help but get all three stars on every level, but you don’t have to in order to proceed, should it prove too difficult). Bad Piggies launches tomorrow morning for iOS devices, Mac, and Android.

Bad Piggies, The New Rovio Smash Coming On September 27th

The one game that has sustained its wild success on the mobile platform for a long time is, without a doubt, Angry Birds. The original game as well as the subsequent releases have been major hits.

However, some of you may be tired with all that slinging action in Angry Birds. Worry not, because Rovio is here to entertain you with the pigs’ side of the story now. Called ‘Bad Piggies’, a new game by Rovio is all set for a release on September 27th. (more…)

Bad Piggies, the alternateuniverses answer to Angry Birds lands September 27th

Imagine a world where everyone’s evil and wears a goatee, while our avian allies from Angry Birds are actually the villains of the piece. That’s the premise behind Bad Piggies, Rovio’s newest productivity killer, which promises entirely new game mechanics (and no slingshots!). It’ll arrive on iOS, Android and OS X on September 27th, with Windows and Windows Phone 8 versions following shortly afterward.

Rovio launches Bad Piggies Facebook page, possible Angry Birds spin-off?

The Angry Birds franchise is one that is known to almost everyone out there, regardless is you have the game or not. So far we’ve only been able to control the birds and not the pigs, but perhaps it’s about time that we do. Now it has been rumored in the past that there might be an Angry Birds spin-off and today is probably the closest thing to a confirmation. Rovio has created a Facebook page called “Bad Piggies” which appears to be dedicated to the little green critters in the game. A “press release” apparently written by the pigs was available (as seen above) but it doesn’t really tell us anything.

Could it be that we could finally be slinging pigs at birds, or will the pigs be getting a whole new adventure or their own? Personally the idea of a multiplayer game, where one player controls birds and the other controls pigs sounds like a great idea! In any case we’re only speculating at this point, but be sure to check back with us at a later date for the details! In the meantime, feel free to share your thoughts on what this game might be in the comments below.
