Sci-fi Hotel with H.R. Giger-themed Bar May Be Coming Soon

You may heard of Switzerland’s Giger Bar. They were put together by H.R. Giger, the artist best known for the incredible, but creepy designs for Ridley Scott’s Alien flicks. The bars mimic the style of those movies, but with alcohol. Too bad we don’t have something similar in the U.S. However, a Giger Bar could be coming our way.

Graphic designer Andy Davies wants to open a sci-fi themed hotel called… The Sci-Fi Hotel. It would combine a variety of classic sci-fi designs, but he wants a bar in it too of course. The property is being developed with the full permission and partnership of H.R. Giger, so it should be awesome.

As of now there is no definitive location that they have in mind, but apparently Seattle is near the top of the list, as well as New York, Chicago, San Francisco and New Orleans. Anywhere is good. Just build one here already!

Monsieur robotic bartender pours libations at home for $1,499 (hands-on)

Image

A night out at the local watering hole can be a pain sometimes, having to elbow your way through crowds and struggle to catch the bartender’s eye, all for a tasty beverage. If only we could leave all the hard work to a machine. Fortunately, Monsieur, the “robotic bartender” that we first met at TechCrunch Distrupt a few weeks ago, is back to deliver a Jetsonian experience to those who thirst for more than tech. It’s certainly not the first of its kind, but the delivery method employed here is of a subtler sort, downplaying the anthropomorphic angle and hiding away the mechanism inside a streamlined casing. The home-bound version is significantly more compact (and less expensive) than the enterprise edition seen above, and it should be making its way to consumers soon. Grab a glass and join us after the break to see what’s in store.%Gallery-slideshow90894%

Smart Move or Gimmick? This Bar Only Lets Its Facebook Friends in After 9PM

Suppose you’re a bar owner who’s getting tired of dealing with a rowdy crowd of undesirables who do nothing but mess up your interior decor and ruin the mood in the entire place with their antics. What would you do? Hire more bouncers, or implement a digital bouncer-type of system instead?

Tony Mannor, the owner of Stockton, California’s Finnegan’s Irish Pub and Restaurant, opted to go with the latter. So far, it seems like he made the right decision. The doors are closed to people who aren’t “friends” with the bar’s Facebook page after 9PM. That means patrons have to add the pub in the social media network before they can enter.

Mannor took to YouTube to explain that slots are “limit[ed] to an overall percentage of total occupancy and other factors.” He added that the bar has about 7,500 names on their guest list – with Mannor himself knowing the faces of at least 75% of them.

Jackery outs Bar and Mini portable battery packs, aims to give power-hungry devices a boost

Jackery outs Bar and Mini portable battery packs, aims to give powerhungry devices a boost

Mophie’s Juice Packs are all the rage when it comes to giving a meaningful power boost to popular slabs like the iPhone 5 and Galaxy S III, but let’s not forget others outside that group may need some help, too. Here’s where the California-based firm Jackery hopes to come in. The company’s just introduced its Bar and Mini external batteries, touting rather portable and peculiar designs as some of the main features present. More importantly, both of the USB-equipped power packs are loaded with 5,600 and 2,600mAh, respectively — and, according to Jackery, this is enhanced by the peripherals’ ability to hold a charge for up to six months, thanks to the company’s own “unique power lock technology.” Jackery’s 5.4-ounce Bar is available starting today for $40, while the more petite Mini (which weighs in at less than three ounces) can be yours for 10 bucks less than its heavier sibling.

Google Lost the Nexus 4 in a Bar

Underwater Bar Lets You Get Tipsy With Mermaids

Okay, so mermaids don’t really exist, but they will soon enough, if you’ve had one drink too many down at the Subsix bar. It’s a posh and exclusive bar that’s quite unusual, since it’s one of the world’s only underwater bars.

Underwater BarSubsix is located 500-meters off shore of the Niyama Resort in the Maldives, and it’s truly a sight to behold, both above the water and beneath it.

The floor to ceiling glass walls on three sides lets you enjoy an unobstructed view of the exotic marine life while the club’s DJ console and bar are along the back wall. Accessible only by boat, this club was constructed first entirely on land, and then later submerged into the ocean.

To be honest, the ambiance seems more fitting for a lounge than a bar. Imagine watching a huge school of fish swim by, followed by a group of drunk people screaming their heads off because they think the world’s being invaded by aliens.

Man Walking and Watching TV at the Same Time Falls Through a Hole [Video]

Eoin is a poor guy who was walking while watching TV and juggling multiple things in his hands (his phone perhaps?) when he fell straight through the floor. Like, literally. A trap door in the ground was left open and he didn’t notice until he plunged completely through the hole. More »
