Quitting your job, as with breaking up, should never be done over text message. Outgoing University of Missouri men’s basketball coach Frank Haith could certainly use a reminder: Haith just delivered his two weeks notice in a text message, reports Fox 4 KC.
Sports and technology are usually thought of as estranged dance partners just a half measure out of sync, but there’s an elegant waltz between the two that’s been going on for years behind the scenes. And maybe nowhere more so than in the lead-up to March Madness.
Hoop Tracker Basketball Smartwatch Provides Automatic, Real-Time Shot Tracking
Posted in: Today's ChiliPlaying basketball is fun, but I am bad at it. I might be less bad if I used the Hoop Tracker smartwatch, which is designed very specifically for basketball, unlike most wearables that aim at a more general audience. The new Kickstarter project promises instant analysis and tracking of your shots, including three-point, free throw and field goal percentage, as well as more standard stuff like time… Read More
The NBA recently announced that the players of all 30 teams—and the balls they use!—would have tracking devices installed to analyze player movements during games. Now, the first dribles of the fascinating data are available.
BT has landed quite a few major sports broadcasting deals as of late, including its buyout of ESPN’s British and Irish channels back in February. Today, it’s extending its athletic empire with an exclusive arrangement to air NBA games in Ireland and the UK. The agreement will see BT Sport 1, BT Sport 2 and ESPN broadcast as many as seven live games per week, with some of them streaming through BT Sport’s website and mobile apps. While there isn’t a huge market for basketball in the country, the pact will make life much easier for diehard UK fans and American ex-pats — they won’t have to buy online passes or otherwise bend over backwards to keep up with their favorite NBA teams.

Nerf changed the way we all played indoor basketball without a proper court; replacing trash cans and balls of paper with plastic nets and foam balls. And now you can take your scaled-down game to near NBA-caliber levels with Eastpoint’s new wireless hoops and scoreboard that keeps tab on time and points complete with the simulated roar of a non-existent crowd.
The NBA faces a big challenge now that it offers all its player statistics to the public — how does it generate stats that hold the interest of basketball fans? The league’s solution is a multi-year agreement to use Stats LLC’s SportVU motion tracking system in every arena (15 teams had already implemented the technology on their own). As of the 2013-14 season, every NBA arena will have a six-camera setup that creates a steady stream of player data based on ball possession, distance, proximity and speed. The NBA’s website, NBA Game Time and NBA TV will all use the information to expand game stats beyond what we see today with heat maps and specific details on each possession. There’s no telling how useful that extra knowledge will be, but we won’t be shocked if it helps settle a few sports bar arguments.

The latest Nike LeBron James branded footwear has been unveiled, and it’s looking like it will be a very lightweight shoe. Previous models were a bit bulkier, which was both good and bad.
I got hooked on the LeBron James 10 simply because of the comfort of the shoe for casual wear. This came from the AirMax 360 airbag that was very prominent at the bottom of the shoe. This feature, or something close to it has been present on LeBron James shoes for a few years. Not anymore. The LBJ 11 no longer has a visible AirMax 360 airbag. Instead, it emphasizes light weight. A size nine shoe weighs just 14.5 oz.
The upper features Hyperposite technology for lock-down, a Hyperfuse construction and Dynamic Flywire tech to keep it all cinched down. The cushion comes from a full-length Lunarlon sole with a Nike Zoom unit – a first for LBJ shoes. So what does that all mean? They’re just fancy brand names for a lightweight, durable and flexible shoe.
The Nike LeBron James 11 will be launched this October for about $200(USD).

These days there’s a new rumor or smartwatch announcement every time you fire up the internet. But they’re all designed to work alongside a smartphone doing boring things like display caller IDs or rejecting a call. Not the Hoop Tracker. This is the first watch designed to keep track of your prowess at the rim so you can know for sure if your hoop dreams have any chance of coming true. And it doesn’t need a smartphone assist.
Kevin Durant, the best basketball player in the world who isn’t a hybrid of a beast and monster, has a new pair of shoes. And it’s a low top. And it has a tongue that curves. And it basically looks like a soccer shoe. But it’s for basketball and they’re so bizarre looking that I think I’m falling for them.
