BBM On Android And iPhone Adds 20 Million Users In First Week

BBM On Android And iPhone Adds 20 Million Users In First Week

Earlier this year BlackBerry announced that it would finally be opening up BlackBerry Messenger, or BBM, to Android and iPhone. The launch finally took place last week, after the initial roll out encountered a number of issues. The BBM app instantly became popular, topping the charts on both Google Play Store and the App Store. BlackBerry has now revealed the official user stats, announcing that 20 million new BBM users have been added in the past week alone. The launch on Android and iOS brings the total number of BBM users to 80 million, 60 million of them being on BlackBerry devices.

The company reveals that BBM was the top free overall app in 35 countries on Google Play and 107 countries in the App Store. Markets where BBM continues to maintain a strong position include Canada, UK, the U.S., Middle East and Indonesia among others. The company also highlights its new sharing tool at www.bbm.com/share, which allows users to quickly add new contacts to BBM. There’s also a new way to share PIN with people you want to add on BBM through www.pin.bbm.com. BlackBerry says that it still has a “few more tricks” up its sleeve which will be shared in the coming months as the company adds even more features to BBM on Android and iPhone. Voice and video chats are just two of the features that have already been confirmed.

BlackBerry Reiterates Commitment To BBM For iOS And Android After Halting Rollout

BlackBerry Reiterates Commitment To BBM For iOS And Android After Halting Rollout

After months and months of endless speculation, BlackBerry finally confirmed last week that it would rollout BBM for iOS and Android over the weekend. The company first announced back in May earlier this year that it is going to open up its instant messaging service to other platforms. On the eve before the official rollout, the APK file of BBM for Android was leaked online which caused a number of issues. This lead to BlackBerry halting the rollout for both iOS and Android, despite the fact that BBM for iOS had already gone live on the App Store. Earlier today the company reiterated its commitment to rolling out BBM for these platforms via Twitter.

BlackBerry said through Twitter that it is “still 100% committed to Bringing BBM to Android and iPhone.” It invites users to sign up to be notified immediately when the rollout commences once again. BlackBerry has not provided a concrete release date as yet, so it can not be sure exactly when BBM for both Android and iOS will go live again. Those who were able to download the iOS version when it was live will be able to use it nonetheless, while those who had sideloaded the Android APK will not be able to use BBM as that version has been disabled.

Over 2.5 Million People Pre-Registered For BBM On Android And iOS

Over 2.5 Million People Pre Registered For BBM On Android And iOS

This weekend BlackBerry Messenger for Android and iOS will be launched in the Google Play Store and App Store, respectively. This is the first time that the once iconic phone manufacturer’s exclusive instant messaging service is being opened up for other platforms, the platforms that have eroded its market share in less than a decade. Since this is a significant move for the company, people have been wondering how BBM will perform on these platforms, given the abundance of IM services such as WhatsApp, Viber and Line, which are quite popular. BlackBerry says that more than 2.5 million people have already pre-registered to download the app on their respective platforms.

The company says that over 60 million people around the world currently use BBM, this number solely comprises of users who have BlackBerry smartphones. BBM is actually considered to be one of the remaining strengths of the company, which is trying to find a buyer for itself. There have been rumors that perhaps BBM might even be spun off into a separate company. For now, BBM on Android and iOS will come with the core feature set, which includes instant messaging and groups. The company says that over time, it will add new features such as video and voice chat and BBM Channels. We’ve got to ask, are you willing to try out BBM on your iPhone or Android?

BBM For Android Leaked Apk Surfaces Online

BBM For Android Leaked Apk Surfaces Online

It has already been announced that BlackBerry Messenger for iOS and Android is going to be released this weekend. Nevertheless, a BBM for Android leaked APK has shown up online. Unlike previous leaks, this one appears to be fully functional. The official release is slated for September 21st on the Google Play Store, iOS users will have to wait just one additional day to get the once BlackBerry exclusive instant messaging client on their iPhones.

Since this is a leaked apk file, it can only be sideloaded on an Android device. Also, it is imperative to mention that this isn’t an official release. There’s no guarantee that the apk won’t cause any problems on your device. It was announced earlier this year that the messenger will finally be opened up for the two most widely used mobile platforms. Will BBM be able to compete with the likes of WhatsApp, Viber, Line and more? Only time will tell. Given the fact that there’s really not much time left till the official release, its just best to hold out until BBM for Android goes live in the Google Play Store. However, if you just can’t wait, hit up the source link for the BBM for Android leaked apk file.

Samsung Will Reportedly Release BBM For Android In Africa On Friday

Samsung Will Reportedly Release BBM For Android In Africa On Friday

Earlier this year BlackBerry announced that it was going to release BlackBerry Messenger for both iOS and Android. The release hasn’t taken place as yet, but it is expected that the company will elaborate on that in the coming days. Samsung was one of the first companies to begin promoting BBM for Android, the focus of that promotion has largely been in Africa. Samsung Nigeria has confirmed over Twitter a local news report that the company is getting a three month exclusive with BBM for Android in the continent. It is now said that Samsung will release BBM for its Android devices there on Friday.

Despite the fact that the tweet went out from Samsung Nigeria’s official Twitter account, the company hasn’t revealed any more details about the exclusivity agreement. BlackBerry has reportedly denied that BBM for Android will be exclusive to Samsung’s Android smartphones for three months in Africa. BlackBerry is conducting an event on September 18th where it is expected to make announcements related to BBM for iOS and Android. It is also expected to unveil the BlackBerry Z30, its first ever phablet. The event takes place in Malaysia. It isn’t known at this point in time when the company’s messaging service will be released for all Android devices around the globe.

BBM iOS And Android User Guides Leaked

BBM iOS And Android User Guides Leaked

Earlier this year BlackBerry announced that it is finally opening up BlackBerry Messenger to other platforms, iOS and Android to be precise. BBM used to be one of the biggest selling points for BlackBerry devices, but now the messaging service has been eclipsed by competitors such as Viber and WhatsApp. Up till now BBM has only been exclusive to the company’s own smartphones. Since its smartphones are not performing as well as they used to in the market, perhaps the company will be able to steal a few customers after they get a taste of BBM on the aforementioned platforms. Ahead of its impending launch, the user guides for BBM on iOS and Android have been leaked.

BlackBerry said that it would release the messenger on these platforms this summer. Rumor has it that the release will take place next month. It was recently reported that the company has already rolled out the apps to a select group of beta testers on both iOS and Android. The user guides won’t be of much use to you if you’ve carried a BlackBerry in the past and are well accustomed to BBM. They’ve aimed towards people who’ve never used BBM before. The guides contain information about BBM PINs, BlackBerry IDs and more. Do check them out if you plan on using BBM on your iOS or Android device once it releases.

A few months ago BlackBerry announced that it would be releasing BlackBerry Messenger a.k.a BBM for both iOS and Android. Back then the company said that we should expect the launch to take place this summer. As yet BlackBerry has not provided a release date, but it is expected that BBM for both platforms will be coming in the next couple of weeks. The cross-platform BBM beta has already been seeded to a select few users of the BlackBerry Beta Zone, invitations to testers for the Android version have reportedly gone out as well. Today we pick up on a picture of BBM for Android, a picture of its splash screen to be precise.

The splash screen doesn’t reveal anything about the interface of the app itself. Its evident that users will have to create a BlackBerry ID regardless of which platform they’re on. This is the first time in the company’s history that its opening up the once famed BBM service to other platforms. It remains to be seen how BBM will perform in this competitive niche, where you already have players such as WhatsApp and Viber, which handle billions of messages across different platforms every single day.
