I think I’ve seen the magic kingdom and it’s in India. The architecture, the animals, the colors, the life, the people, they all add up to create one of the most visually spectacular places in the entire world. Jacob and Katie Schwartz captured parts of northern India in this video and it’s a joy to watch.
Tiny homes, classic cars, and mesmerizing cityscapes—those, among other wonders, are the treasures we’re working with in this round of the most beautiful items of the week. Check out what we discovered for you below:
Time bender Michael Shainblum works his time lapse magic on a place where I would totally believe magic still exists: Doha, Qatar. He shows the bustling new city of skyscrapers and constant construction next to the old world and its ancient culture. Just going around the city will feel like time traveling.
I love the coarse large format paintings of cities by Jeremy Mann. I like to get lost in his everyday scenes and admire the gritty brushstrokes that reveal a perfect command of light, texture, and color.
Charles O’Rear is the photographer who took Bliss, the image that became the desktop of every single Windows XP computer in the world. Billions saw it and probably think the photo is so perfect and colorful that it is computer generated—or at least Photoshopped. O’Rear reveals the origin of the photo in this video.
Fresh outta Cambodia, Angkor Wat is the latest addition to Google Maps’ already considerable portfolio of beautiful places you can explore using Street View. It’s one of the most stunning places on the entire planet, and Google stepped up its game accordingly.
From churches-turned-libraries, to new uses for old CDs, we have plenty of lovely and awe-inspiring things for you to peep this time around. Check them out in this edition of the most beautiful items of the week.
If you’ve been stressing out or if you’re getting swamped at work or if you’re feeling a little overwhelmed, here’s how you fix it: by watching this lovely time lapse of fireflies by Vincent Brady. Just put it on full screen, zone out and watch fireflies (or lightning bugs if that’s what you call them) paint the world with light and create mesmerizing art.

Scott Robertson is one of my favorite concept designers of all time, a true master (both figuratively and literally). Anyone who loves science fiction and space and cars and mechs and any kind of awesome vehicle should own at least Blast and Drive. Here’s a tiny sample of his extraordinary work.
