Belkin Unveils Ultimate Keyboard Case For The iPad

Belkin Unveils Ultimate Keyboard Case For The iPadThe other day Logitech announced a keyboard folio for the iPad and iPad mini, and unsurprisingly it looks like their competitor in the iOS accessory market, Belkin, is not taking this lying down and has announced their down keyboard case for the iPad. Dubbed the Ultimate Keyboard Case, this keyboard case pretty much acts in the same way as Logitech’s version, although in Belkin’s case it comes with a magnetic stand, allowing for three different viewing positions, and apparently Belkin’s case will help improve the iPad’s sound as well.

This is achieved with the SoundFlow design which helps redirect the sound coming from the back of the iPad, to the front where it will sound clearer to the user. Of course nothing beats a set of dedicated speakers but in a pinch we guess this will have to do. Made from an aluminum alloy, Belkin’s Ultimate Keyboard Case comes with an internal battery allowing for 160 hours of typing, but will unfortunately weigh just over a pound. Compatible with the iPad 2, iPad 3 and iPad 4, it is up for pre-order at Belkin’s site for $100 and $130 for the silver model.

Belkin completes Linksys acquistition

Back in January, we reported that Belkin was gearing up to acquire Linksys. That day has finally come, with the company announcing earlier today that the acquisition is complete. Linksys products will still be offered under that name, and not much will change for customers, but this marks a big day for Belkin.

Belkin said in its announcement that it has several announcements planned for this spring, and that consumers will be seeing new Linksys-branded products rolling out this year. By acquiring the latter company, Belkin plans to reach more customers, and to also position itself as the “premier ecosystem” for smart homes.

Belkin’s CEO Chet Pipkin had this to say: “Linksys has a rich heritage, a passionate customer base and a wide product line, all of which fueled our decision to acquire the company and our plan to maintain the Linksys brand. The Linksys portfolio will continue to exist and evolve to include even richer user experiences and network management functionality. Smart Wi-Fi is an innovative and easy way for consumers to stay connected to their home network and we look to continue investing in it by adding more features and products.”

Belkin’s CEO goes on to say that the company is honored to take on and continue with the Linksys brand. Current customers don’t need to worry – their warranties will continue to be honored, as well as future Linksys warranties. In addition, Linksys will continue to offer support via its existing infrastructure and website support pages.

Belkin acquires Linksys, plans to continue marketing products under both brands

Belkin acquires Linksys, plans to continue marketing products under both brands

Linksys and Cisco are no longer one. The enterprise infrastructure giant, which acquired the home networking line in 2003, has officially passed the baton to Belkin. Under the new arrangement, Linksys devices and services, such as routers and Smart WiFi products, will fall under the Belkin umbrella. CEO Chet Pipkin announced plans to maintain both brands, adding that Linksys “will continue to exist and evolve to include even richer user experiences and network management functionality.” Going forward, teams from both Linksys and Belkin may work together to create certain products, so we might begin to see new innovations that wouldn’t have been possible otherwise. Consumers are unlikely to experience any hiccups during the transition — the Linksys website will remain intact and support services will be available as always. Hit up the press release after the break for a few more details surrounding the acquisition.

Belkin releases WeMo beta app for Galaxy S III, devices with ICS or higher

Belkin releases WeMo beta app for Galaxy S III, devices with ICS or higher

Word of an Android app for Belkin’s line of WeMo home automation hardware came amid a flurry of CES news, and now the application has rolled onto Google Play in beta form just over a month later. The app is specifically tested for the Galaxy S III, but handsets toting Ice Cream Sandwich or higher will be able to take it for a spin. By wielding the application, users can control WeMo devices over WiFi and cellular networks, configure custom icons, tweak names, take care of local firmware updates and hook things up with IFTTT. Remote firmware updates, support content and WeMo rules have yet to be baked into the software, however. Belkin is hoping guinea pigs will report bugs, but can’t guarantee they’ll be fixed in the short term. Currently, the outfit says issues regarding poor signal strength and app crashes are on its radar. Looking forward to the polished, growing pain-free product? The final app is expected to arrive around the summertime.

[Thanks, Matt]

Belkin’s $299 Thunderbolt Express dock now up for pre-order, shipping next week

Image

Unless there’s any more last-minute tweaks, those fussy perfectionists at Belkin are ready to lift the cloche on the Thunderbolt Express dock. We’d originally seen the unit at last year’s CES, but the company postponed the launch after adding a trio of USB 3.0 ports and eSATA to the hardware. If you didn’t give up and shell out for the Matrox DS1 in the meantime, you can pre-order the Thunderbolt Express today for shipping next week.

Update: eSATA, which was added to the roster last summer, was ultimately dropped from the final production version.

Belkin Works With LEGO For New Mobile Accessories

Belkin Works With LEGO For New Mobile AccessoriesBelkin does not only come up with reliable networking devices, they are also a powerhouse in the world of mobile accessories, too. Having said that, we are pleased to hear that Belkin recently announced that they are involved in a multi-year licensing partnership with The LEGO Group, which means that this gives them the freedom and opportunity to create innovative and fun accessories where mobile devices are concerned. This collaboration should see some “fruit” arriving sometime in spring 2013, where a range of smartphone cases that incorporate Belkin’s quality product design with LEGO bricks will hit the market for a truly unique buildable case experience.

Specially designed for LEGO fans regardless of one’s age, the maiden product line is said to focus purely on iOS devices, where among them include the iPhone and iPod touch. Of course, this does not mean that Belkin has forgotten about the highly lucrative Android device accessories market, and will pencil in plans for future expansion in due time.

Yes, it’s already possible to snag a “Lego” iPhone case, but only if you throw some cash Smallworks‘ way. If you’ve been waiting for one that bears Olé Kirk Christiansen’s official branding, then you don’t have much longer to wait. Belkin has signed a licensing deal with the toymaker that will allow it to produce a range of Lego-themed iOS device cases, offering a “buildable” experience — whatever that means. Wake us up when they release a Mindstorms version, please.

Belkin FastFit Keyboard Case For iPad Mini Offers 155 Hours Of Use For $80

Belkin FastFit Keyboard Case For iPad Mini Offers 155 Hours Of Use For $80

Hot on the heels of Logitech’s announcement yesterday of its popular Ultrathin Keyboard being made for the iPad Mini, Belkin has a bit of news of its own concerning its own keyboard case for the iPad Mini.

Belkin’s FastFit keyboard case is said to be the “lightest and thinnest” keyboard case around as it measures in at just 7mm thick, which is actually thinner than the iPad Mini itself. What helps keep its weight down is due to the anodized aircraft-grade aluminum its manufactured with. (more…)

Belkin introduces FastFit keyboard case for iPad mini, will cost you $79

The iPad mini keyboard cases are rolling in. We already saw Logitech’s offering yesterday, and now Belkin is trying one-up them by releasing their own variant. The company says their new FastFit keyboard case for the iPad mini is the “lightest and thinnest” product of its kind, and it sure looks that way.

34-view

The keyboard case measures in at just 7mm thick, which is thinner than the iPad mini itself. Belkin included its TruType keyboard technology, which offers tactile feedback when keys are pressed. The case is also made out of anodized aircraft-grade aluminium, which is probably why it doesn’t weigh a whole lot.

The FastFit connects to the iPad mini through Bluetooth and is able to deliver 155 hours of “active use” for all those typing demons out there. Also, just like Apple’s Smart Cover for the iPad, the FastFit has a magic magnetic sensor so that it can automatically lock and wake up your iPad mini when it’s opened and closed.

Belkin is charging $79 for its FastFit keyboard case at, which is right on par with Logitech’s offering. Belkin says that pre-orders for the keyboard case will begin soon, but no specific date was given. We have to say that we really like the look of the FastFit, and thanks to the efforts of both Logitech and Belkin, both black iPad mini owners, as well as silver owners can get matching-colored keyboards.

Belkin Announces Plans To Purchase Linksys From Cisco

Belkin Announces Plans To Purchase Linksys From Cisco

It looks as though last month’s rumor of Cisco looking to sell its Linksys division turned out to be true as we have just received a press release from Belkin announcing they plan to buy Linksys.

Belkin has entered into an agreement with Cisco to purchase its Home Networking Business Unit, which includes the Linksys brand and its employees. Belkin, which is also a major player in the home networking world, hasn’t announced the terms of the agreement, instead saying is very excited about today’s announcement.
