Triposo Travel Belt vibrates to help you locate attractions (video)

Triposo Travel Belt vibrates to help you locate attractions video

A decade ago, all but the most connected of travelers would leave phones and other devices at home, opting instead to plan visits to restaurants, museums and other tourist sites from a paperback book. Now, with mobile data and services like KeepGo enabling cheap roaming when you’re abroad, there’s more incentive to bring those gadgets along, powering exploration in real time with crowdsourced recommendations from a mobile app. One such application, however, will soon employ an unusual solution that’ll let you keep your handset tucked away, without wandering astray.

The Triposo Travel Belt communicates with a companion app through a wired connection — developers opted for a standard 3.5mm cable that plugs into a headphone jack, rather than Bluetooth, keeping things simple and maximizing compatibility. After you select a destination, the app will push directions through the headphone jack to four vibration motors, which activate based on your orientation and the direction of your destination. The belt will vibrate in the front, back, or either side to guide you to a pre-selected address or POI. There’s a working prototype out and about, but the creators need some cash to get the belt to production. You can help with a $30 $50 Indiegogo pledge, which should get you a Travel Belt in hand by February. There’s a demo video, too, posted after the break.

Update: Since going live with its Indiegogo page, the company has raised the price of the belt from $30 to $50.

Crayon Bandolier for Kids: Dress Like Craybacca

So it might not be the best idea to make your little kids watch Rambo, but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be able to dress like a commando. With the Crayon Bandolier, your youngun will be a young gun, toting around their colorful ammo.

Instead of bullets, this bandolier holds up to 24 crayons – for making art, not war. Perfect for members of the Crayola cartel, the Crayon Bandolier sells for $24.99(USD) over at ThinkGeek – including 24 crayons, including that oh so useful white one.

Belt Buckle Retro Gaming System Will Make Geeks Kneel Before You

Instructables member cunning_fellow made brass belt buckle with a crude handheld gaming device built-in. He calls it the Asteroid Belt, probably because the first game he’s making for it is an Asteroids ripoff.

I really like the brass case that cunning_fellow made for the device. It seems to be upside down in the pictures though. Or did cunning_fellow make it that way so it would be right side up from his point of view when he’s wearing the belt? Cunning fellow.

Head to Instructables to see more of the Asteroid Belt. Cunning_fellow clearly didn’t bother explaining his process in layman’s terms because the project requires advanced tinkering and programming skills. He did say, “If 1000 people all moan at me at once I could be persuaded” to make and sell more of the belt. He clearly underestimated the average Internet user’s moaning capability.

Smart Belt Buckle Holds Cards and Cash While Holding Your Pants Up

This probably isn’t the first multi-tasking belt buckle you’ve seen, and I’m pretty certain it won’t be your last, either. Remember the belt buckle knife and the Etch-a-Sketch belt buckle?

While the Smart Belt Buckle won’t provide you with extra protection or a few minutes of fun and entertainment, it will give you some extra storage space for your credit cards and IDs.

Smart Belt Buckle Wallet

It’s called smart for a reason. The biggest pain when you lose you wallet is having to phone the bank to cancel all your credit and debit cards. Then there’s the matter of having to file for lost IDs and waiting weeks or even months to get a new one, whether it’s for work or for your gym membership.

With this buckle around your waist, you’ll still have the essential stuff with you – even if you lose your wallet.

The Smart Buckle Belt can be personalized with your name or initials on the front, and it’s pretty light as it weighs in at only seven ounces. It’s available in three different finishes, Gun Metal, Brushed Metal and Titanium, and is available for $39.95(USD) on Amazon.

Super Mario Leather Belt Puts an Entire Level Around Your Waist

Holding your pants up just got a whole lot geekier. Sure, you could always buy yourself a Super Mario Bros. belt buckle, but wouldn’t you rather have an entire level of your choice on a leather belt? Well, now you can, as long as you are willing to cough up a lot of gold coins.

Leather artist SalukiFeathers is offering just that. Each of these Super Mario belts is painstakingly hand-tooled and the process takes weeks. Now you know why they cost $395(USD).

I’m not sure which level I would choose. The one in the picture, where Mario finally rescues his Princess looks pretty good to me. I suppose it would be a lot cheaper to just get pants that fit. Or overalls, like Mario. However that wouldn’t be nearly as cool as this belt.

Belt Buckle Knife Will Have You Dropping Your Pants for Protection

Belt buckles are getting crazier and more creative, and the Belt Buckle Flask and Arcade Coin Slot Belt prove this point. Something that’s still novel but on the more serious side is the Belt Buckle Knife.

Unlike the others, this buckle was designed to blend in and look just like your typical buckle. But once its undone, you’ll have access to a 2.5-inch long blade that you can use to fight off attackers, crooks, and whoever else is making unwanted advances toward you.

The other end of the buckle can also be used as a bottle opener, although I’m pretty sure you’ll freak a couple of people out if you whip it out and they see the blade on the other end. And certainly, you won’t be taking this thing through airport security.

There are many similar belt knife buckles available, although we’ve got no leads on where you can buy the one above. If you do, though, let us know.

Arcade Coin Slot Belt Buckle: Insert Coin to Play

While it’s not quite as interactive as the Etch-a-Sketch belt buckle, this arcade coin slot belt buckle is even better, in my humble opinion. This belt buckle was designed by Seattle’s if Industries, and not only does it feature a genuine recycled arcade coin slot, it actually lights up.

I don’t know if there’s any room inside of it for storing quarters, but that’d be cool if it did. Of course, I’m not sure what sort of message your significant other would be sending if they then pushed in the button to reject the coin. And where would it come out, your butt? Ok. That was childish of me.

Unfortunately, it’s currently sold out, but if Industries says they’ll make these to order if you contact them directly over on Etsy. If your pants are falling down right now, you’ll just have to settle for the NES console belt buckle instead.

Etch-a-Sketch Belt Buckle Lets You Draw Something at Waist Height

The Etch-a-Sketch reminds me of the days when I was a kid and didn’t have the day-to-day worries that I have right now (like how I’m going to find time to write two papers for this class I’m taking when I have to work for the most part of the day, among others.)

So when I saw this Playtime Belt Buckle on Etsy (aka the Etch-a-Sketch Belt Buckle), let me say I did more than just do a double take.

Etch a Sketch Belt Buckle
While I’m not in the market for a new buckle, you might be.

As its name obviously suggests, you can now wear a miniature and fully functional Etch-a-Sketch around your waist. It might be hard to draw stuff while you’re wearing it and it might be weird if someone else were using it to draw stuff while it’s around your waist, but hey, it’s still a pretty cool and funky belt buckle.

The Playtime Belt Buckle is available from iFind Industries’ Etsy shop for $80 (USD). Of course with a hot glue gun and one of these, you could DIY one for a whole lot less money.

Belt Buckle Flask Lets You Take Your Booze to Go

People have been known to wear strange things around their waist. It all began with the computer mouse belt, which featured an actual mouse as the buckle. Then there was Volt Buckle gadget charger, which had a plug integrated right into the buckle.

And then there’s the Belt Buckle Flask, which is silly but useful at the same time.

Belt Buckle Booze Flask
When people see flasks, they automatically think of booze. But that doesn’t really have to be the case, which extends the appeal of the Belt Buckle Flask to people who don’t really consume alcoholic beverages. Fill it with water, soda (although expect it go flat after about half an hour), juice, or even milk–basically whatever you want to drink randomly throughout the day.

These Belt Buckle Flasks are available online for just $7.40(USD) each over on Amazon. And no, that doesn’t include the belt.
